Star struck
Demis POV
The walk down the Nook was incredible. Everyone had a blast and it was great seeing everyone get to know each other better.
While we were walking back I could hear all the kids laughing and talking about the walk which made me so happy. And this is only the first day.
We are heading back to our lobby for a rest and some morning tea before our next activity.
I kept on thinking about the way Hayley had reacted when I had touched her. Did she think I was going to hurt her? Or was it an instinct? I didn't really have much time to think about it on the walk back, because all the kids were talking to me about the hike and asking what activity we are doing next.
I haven't seen Hayley since she stormed off and even though she told me to forget about it, I haven't. I just have this gut feeling she is hiding something. Something I should know about.
"Hey,.. Hey Demi" Nick shouted running up to me puffing
"Hey what's up?"
"When you get back to the lobby, Miranda said she already dropped off morning tea to everyone's lobby she just wanted me to let you know it's in the fridge" Nick said holding out he's phone showing me the text. Miranda was the main chef.
"Ok, um are you going somewhere?" I asked
"Yeah Matt needs my help setting up for tonight" so I'll be back before our next activity he said.
"Oh okay see you then" i smiled, he said bye and jogged off.
The lobby was about a 15 minute walk from the Nook. By the time we got back to the lobby everyone was definitely tired out.
"Okay everyone! I know your hungry and tired I just need to call the role to make sure everyone is here, okay?" I yelled over the top of the noise and got everyone's attention.
I called out everyones names and everyone was there.
"Ok done. Thank you guys!" I said walking towards the fridge and started setting out morning tea on the table "so we have half an hour for morning tea, then after that we have free time for about 20 minutes. then we meet back here at 12. Then we have archery till lunch then we have one more activity for the day. Then free time till Dinner, after dinner it's showers and ready for bed-"
"Awwww" the kids interrupted me
I laughed and finished "SO that we can all be ready for movie night! Then we have tea and then bed, does that sound good?" I smiled and the kids seemed pretty happy with that.
"Do we have 3 activities everyday?" Maddie asked
"Most days we do. But some days we might have 4 or only 1 depends what the activities are because some take longer and some are very tiring. There are also some days where you don't have any activities so you can explore on your own but the rules are you have to come back for every meal, even if your not hungry you have to be checked off so we know your okay... alright everyone have something to eat then go rest up for archery!"
I pulled my phone out to check for any important messages before going to rest myself. I looked up from my phone every now and then and would catch some of the boys staring at me then awkwardly looking away when they saw me catch them which gave me a laugh.
After making sure i had done everything i needed to do I walked into my room, locked the door behind me and took a deep breath and laid down on my bed.
I know i should be spending time with the kids and getting to know them, but I'm just not feeling it today. I checked the time, i still have time for a quick shower i thought to myself. I grabbed my bag and headed down the hall to the bathroom.
I turned the water on and adjusted the water to the right temperature and started to relaxed.
I was about to hop out when I heard some girls walk into the bathroom giggling.
"They totally do!" One of them said
"No way they have been friends forever!" Another voice said "yes, exactly why they would be friends 'with benefits'" i could hear a smirk in her voice.
What are they talking about? I know I shouldn't be eavesdropping but hey, i was here first. "Demi's lesbian"
"No Demi is Bi sexual she still dates boys"
I rolled my eyes. Seriously? They think I am in a sexual relationship with nick, gross. don't they have anything better to do? I didn't want rumours being spread around camp, but didn't want to confront the girls either. so I got dried and put my clothes back on and walked out into the bathroom and pretended to be looking at myself in the mirror. I could see the girls behind me staring with their mouth open, they know I heard.
"Demi.." a girl with curly red hair nervously said. I turned around. "yes?" I smiled. "um..how long, did you he-what are" she stuttered "yes I think I heard something about me and Nick.. hmm, definitely the first I've heard of it" I said
"Um So you and Nick-" she said. I raised My hand to stop her from what she was about to say "we are and always have been and always will be best friends, and that's it, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't spread rumours and we kept this between us" I finished
The girl with dark Brown eyes Elbowed The girl with curly red hair "I told you" she said aggressively "i'm sorry" The redhead girl apologised I forgave them and we went separate ways.
The day continued on we went to archery and had lunch. After lunch we spent a lot more time getting to know each other. I noticed a lot of the kids were very outgoing but Hayley was very shy and didn't seem like she wanted to talk to anyone
It's almost time for dinner and Hayley has been avoiding me all day, I'm genuinely just intrigued by her and want to get to know her, she has gone out of her way countless times to avoid me. Maybe she hates me, what could i have done to make her hate me so much. My thoughts were interrupted by my phone ringing it was Miranda.
"Hello?" I answered
"Hey Demi. I couldn't get a hold of Nick but im just letting everyone know dinners running a bit early and to start getting the kids to the diner" she said
"Oh ok great! Yeah I'll be there in 15 thanks" i hung up the phone and started walking to the group lobby. "Hey" a boy came up to me, I remembered him from the hike he's name is Joel. "Hey, Joel was it?" I asked "yes" he smiled "um have you seen Hayley?" He asked
"Hayley? No why?" I responded
"Oh i thought you guys were close" he said
Why would he think that? Was Hayley talking about me? I wanted to ask him but I didn't wanna seem weird so i just said "No sorry I haven't. But we are having dinner now so you'll see her in the main lobby"
"Oh yeah i just wanted to see her before din-" he stopped and looked at a message on he's phone. "Oh never mind Tyler found her" he said and run off. I was curious what they were up to, I decided to follow him but without him knowing of corse.
I followed him until i saw him run behind the rock climbing wall. Hmmm that's not dodgy.
I walked up slowly and caught them lighting a smoke
"Busted" i laughed as I watched them all hide their smokes. "It's ok I don't mind, I won't tell" I reassured them with a smile and they sighed of a relief
"Your awesome Demi thank you" Joel said "oh i see, this is why you were looking for Hayley then?" I said and looked over at hayley "why would she know where i was I don't even talk to her" hayley scolded at Joel "well I just assumed because of the way you talk about-OW!" He started before Hayley piffed the lighter at he's head "he doesn't know what he's on about, i was talking about someone else" Hayley said giving me a dirty look
"Um.. okay. Well I don't mind if you smoke but it's our secret and you can't get caught and make sure to get rid of the butts" i was a bit hurt by the way Hayley had acted towards me but I tried not to let it bother me. "We promise" the boys said I wasn't sure weather to stay or leave so i just looked down.. "um I'll go, dinners now so come straight to the diner" i walked off
"Dude she was upset, why did you talk to her like that?" I heard Tyler whisper
"I don't like her" i heard Hayley say bluntly
"But she is so nice"
I could over hear them talking as i walked away but i didn't wanna stick around and listen i was already upset.
Hayleys POV
After me Joel, Ryan and Tyler finished our smoke we kicked dirt over the butt to hide it like instructed and started heading over to the diner.
"I'm starved" Joel groaned
"Me too" Tyler agreed
I stayed silent.
We walked into the diner and noticed the Turbojets were missing.
"Okay guys sorry about the wait I know you're Dinner was supposed to be early today, but it seems the turbojets are running behind schedule and just finishing up their activity now and they will be here in 10 minutes or so" Matt Stood in the middle of the room announcing
"Nooo im hungry" "im bored" the little kids started getting restless, I noticed Nick and Demi smiling at each other and nodding. "Hey kids! We have a treat for you" Nick shouted, Everyone turned their attention to Demi and Nick.
Nick started strumming he's guitar, wow he is good.
"It's time for me to take it, im the boss right now not gonna fake it. Not when you go down cause this is my game and you better come to play"
I sat There with my jaw practically on the floor. Is that really Demi?! I was completely starstruck, I listened not looking at anything else not caring about anything I was just staring at her while she sung it was so beautiful she was amazing, I've never heard anything so magnificent in my life. I couldn't take my eyes off her. I fell in love with her voice. I had chills. Everyone was clapping in rhythm. I started crying almost but I quickly wiped them away.
"What's wrong with being confident!"
Demi finished her song and the crowd went crazy. Everybody applaud and cheered, Even I did.
The turbojets had quietly snuck in during Demis performance and now it was time To eat.
A lady placed a plate In front of me and I Thanked her, I looked down at a plate of vegetables rice and meat. I couldn't eat this but everyone was watching i had to.
I picked up my plate and spooned some of the vegetables in my mouth trying not to cry. I swallowed hard and looked up to see Demi across the room staring at me,
I tried to look casual but I couldn't eat anymore i pushed my plate away. I felt like I'd eaten to much already today.
*ring ring ring*
My phone started buzzing it was an unknown number I excused myself from the table and went outside. Saved by the bell!
Me- "hello?"
Casey- "Hayley its us! Casey and Rebecca"
Me- "omg no way!" I wanted to cry
Rebecca- " how are you doing girl?!"
Me-"fine i guess but i wanna hear about you! Whats been happening??"
Casey- "after we left you at the bus, we had to walk for about an hour then we were able to get a ride from a nice old couple and they took us right to the apartment And after we told them our Story they gave us some money and paid the first two weeks rent and get this their daughter is the owner of the cafe and we were able to get jobs easily there and they promised a job for you when you get down here! Everything is going great!!"
Me- "whoa that does sound really good.. I really miss you guys"
Rebecca-"we miss you to"
Casey-"we have to go though, we are at work, we are just on break we have to go back for the dinner rush but we can use the work phone any time to call you"
Me-" that sounds so good! So make sure you call me ok? Don't forget about me..."
Casey and Rebecca- "never! Bye hugs an kisses"
Me-"cya"
I hung up and wanted to cry. Im glad they are having such good luck.
