Rosalie had left soon after she'd finished Charlotte's makeup, which was always the plan. Bella was coming round so that Charlotte could get her ready and Rose didn't really like Bella, she found her too bland and brainless.
"Taco-bell, its prom night!" Charlotte tried to run to where the awkward brunette stood at the front door, her just as awkward dad next to her, but the run proved to be quite difficult with a big cast on her leg.
"Woah, take it easy, Bambi."
"Yes, Chief!" She saluted to the concerned police officer, turning her fast hobble into a slow one.
"Excuse me, what are you laughing at?" She directed her question at Bella who looked like she was struggling to hold the biggest laugh she would ever have in her life.
"You. You look liked a penguin."
"If you're going to call me a penguin make sure you call me an adelie."
"Why?" Bella hadn't been as confused in her life.
"Because they're the cutest, duh."
"I think you're more suited to a blue penguin" Bella and Charlotte's eyes drifted to Charlie, both slightly shocked that he knew even an ounce about penguins. "You know? Cause they're the smallest out of all the penguins." It was clear to see by they was that he fidgeted that he was uncomfortable under the two girls gaze.
"I had no idea that you were a penguin guy!" Charlotte was willing to overlook the fact that Charlie had just called her small because of how surprised she was at him. "Mum, you've got yourself a keeper!"
April Smith appeared out of thin air, practically running to her new beaus side "Haven't I?"
Although there was no PDA going on between the two parents right now, Charlotte didn't want to be around for when there was, just because she loved them together it didn't mean she wasn't disgusted by the thought of them kissing.
"Okay Isabelly, lets go get you all done up. Its gonna be like an episode of 'Song, Marry, Avoid' when I'm done with you!"
The rest of the day was spent with Bella protesting that Charlotte was putting too much makeup on and Charlotte saying there was too little, then one of them getting nervous and then the other starting a dance to whatever song was on the radio to calm said nerves.
"Oh my god, Isabella, I feel like a proud mum" Charlotte pretended to dab at her eyes "You look stunning."
"Thank y-"
"I finally know how Da Vinci must have felt when he finished the Mona Lisa."
"-ou" Bella wasn't surprised that Charlotte was acting the way she was, she expected no less from her.
"I'm so glad you're my beautiful date." She held the brunettes shoulders, admiring her work.
"How come I am your date anyway?" She hadn't asked why Edward wasn't her date yet, as far as she knew they'd made up after the whole Phoenix thing.
"Ouch, no need to be so ungrateful" She removed her hands from the others shoulders, turning to her mirror to reapply her lipgloss "But I couldn't let you got by yourself, what kind of sister would I be then?"
"One) You're not my sister-"
"Yet." Charlotte jumped in as quick as she could.
"-Two) Jacob said we could have gone on a date night if I didn't have a date."
Now where had Charlotte heard the name Jacob before? "Jacob?"
"....Jacob."
After a few more seconds reality struck "Jacob! As in the boy who you cheated on Michael with!"
Isabella visibly flinched at Charlotte's words, "Yes, that one" She grumbled.
"Aw Tinkerbella, I didn't mean bring up bad memories."
"Will you stop with the nicknames, I thought you hated them."
"I do. But you have such a good name for nicknames."
It wasn't long before April Smith was hammering on the bedroom door, telling the girls they needed to get downstairs now if they wanted to get a few pictures before they set off. Bella said that she didn't want any pictures, but unfortunately Charlotte didn't give her much of a choice.
Charlie was awkward as ever when he saw his daughter and Charlotte. He wasn't used to showing emotion, especially not with Bella who he struggled to bond with. Charlotte could have sworn she saw a few tears leave his eye when he thought no one was looking.
Nothing much else happened to the two as they made their way to the prom, only typical prom stuff. Charlotte didn't join in with much of the conversation though, she was too busy thinking about Edward. She couldn't help but be so desperate to see him.
Most of the school were surprised when Charlotte showed up with Bella. Not only because Charlotte was the most popular girl in school and Bella was..... well Bella, but also because she wasn't here with Edward. Though they had never made their relationship school official everyone had their suspicions, and they thought tonight was going to be night they were confirmed.
"Do you know if the others are here?"
"Yeah they all got here a bit before us."
"Cute." Charlotte spit out, she still wasn't on the best terms with Jessica so wasn't really looking forward to seeing her. But she wanted to share at least one dance with Angela, which meant she'd have to be near Jessica for a little bit.
"Is Edward here?" The question was asked as the two made their way into the main hall.
"Of course he is Izzybell, he's always early."
"Or you're always late."
"A Queen is never late. Everyone else is simply early." Charlotte drew her words out for dramatic effect as the pair scanned the main hall, Bella looking for her friends, Charlotte looking for her personal disco ball. "Now if you'll excuse me, Miss Swan, I have some duties to attend to."
"You're not actually a Queen, Charlotte." The brunettes called out to the red head, who had already started to make her way to Edward, only one thing running through her mind : how stunning he was in a suit.
"You look beautiful" Edward grabbed her hand, slipping a corsage onto her pale wrist "You always look beautiful."
Charlotte lifted her other hand, grabbing the vampires cheeks and pulling his lips to hers. It wasn't the first time that the two had kissed, but it felt like it. It was as if the whole world around them melted away, like no one else was in the room. There was only the young in love couple and the sparks that flew between them.
After Charlotte had left Edward to share a dance with the gorgeous Angela Webber, she had gone outside, knowing he would follow. She could feel him stood behind her as she watched the others dance. She admired how carefree they looked, as if they had no worries and deep down inside she craved that. Even though she liked to pretend everything was fine, she could only pretend for so long that thoughts of danger and threat weren't a constant in her mind.
Edward couldn't help but read her thoughts, hers were the loudest "Would you like to dance?"
The first few songs were spent in silence, the pair just enjoying each others company.
"Why me?" The voice was so quiet, it almost sounded like a mouse. He'd never heard her sound like that before. "Why me Edward?"
"I wish it wasn't" He whispered back, putting his mouth next to her ear.
"But it is." She couldn't hide the sadness from her voice anymore.
"And I'm sorry." It pained him to hear it.
"Why did you have to do this to me? You're my last thought when I go to sleep and the first when I wake up. I was always so sure I would never be this girl, I never imagined that I would need someone like I need air to breathe. I used to laugh at the girls like that, call them pathetic.... But now.... I don't think I could live without you."
The couple were so consumed by each other that they didn't even notice that all the other prom attendees had left.
"What did you do to me? Everyday used to fade into one, it was an endless cycle of existing. And then you showed up, I wanted to hate you so bad, no one had ever made me feel the things you did just from a glance. You were my own personal angel sent from hell to punish me. I couldn't resist the temptation, you drew me in. Now its an endless cycle of you, a cycle I never want to stop."
From the outside it just looked like a young couple in love, they looked normal. Like they had no cares. But on the inside they were deathly afraid of what would happen next.
The boy knew that if he didn't have Charlotte then he didn't have anything. But he also knew that he couldn't take away her chance at a life where she could be happy, the life that she had dreamed of before he came along and ruined it. As much as it would pain him to say goodbye, he didn't know if he had a choice.
The girl knew that her life was standing in her arms, and she was scared if he let go she would cease to exist. She was nothing without him, but what if the day came where his love wasn't enough. She couldn't spend an eternity filled with sadness, but she was scared she no longer had a choice.
