I woke up sweating and with tears rolling down my cheeks, I had a dream about what had happened. I touched my wrist where I was cut and I had a plaster on it.
So last night was not a dream, everything that happened had actually happened.
I looked around and I was in bed alone and Monalisa was sitting by the window, I heard her sniffing. I guess she herself couldn’t quite sleep with what had happened to us.
“morning” I said rising from the bed
She turned to me “hi” she said coldly.
Who could blame her? her mother was ready to sacrifice her
She seemed really shaken and so was i
“how are you holding up?” I asked walking towards her
“I don’t know, still shaken that’s all.” She sighed “I just wish I knew how Click was doing” she said running her hands in her hair
“isn’t it weird that we look exactly alike?” I broke the ice and we both chuckled
“yeah it’s like looking in a mirror” she said still lauging
“I never knew I was this pretty” I said sarcastically and she chuckled.
I got to see myself the way Ahlume did when my hair was untied because unlike me her hair was hanging loosely on her shoulders and untied while mine was still tied but loosely. Hers was a little shorter than mine and her hair colour was slightly brown while mine was dark brown.
“don’t get corky.” She said laughing “Where are you from?” she said patting near her
“South Africa Durban with my grandmother” I sighed heavily “and I recently connected with my mom and dad and what about yourself” I asked sitting on the cushion
“I currently live in California with my father and aunt, well lived with her until she tried to kill me.” she said with hurt written in her eyes. I brushed her knee “I’m ok. Your mom cares about you so much”
I nodded with a smile touching my amulet “yeah, I guess she does”
“you heard my story. what’s yours?” she asked wiping her teary eyes
“she tried to abort me twice and failed both times” I said shrugging my shoulders
Her mouth hung open “damn!”
“yeah” I said with a nod “Do you know Ahlume Adams?” I asked seeing that Ahlume had me mistaken with her when he first met me. she looked at me confused “grey brush cut, small eyes, corky smile, pink lips, tattoes all over his body.. well not all over as per say but he has that bad boy attitude, he’s coloured, mixture of a Xhosa and Coloured, caramel ski, piercing on his right eyebrow” I said dsrcribing him, the thought of how worried he must have been was enough to make me sad
She nodded slowly “I think I know him”
“you guys met last December. I don’t know where” I said
“does he have a look alike twin with different colour hair from him?” she asked as though she remembered
I nodded “yes”
She smiled “oh I know him. Very corky guy. Cute smile too” I couldn’t even contain my smile… more like blush “you two are dating?” I nodded smiling like a retard “and you not afraid he might die or something?”
I shook my head “no. why should i?”
She suddenly had this look on her face, I think it dawned on her that her mother wasn’t lying when she said I was pure as opposed to her.
She shrugged “so let me guess, he thought you were me?”
I chuckled “yeah, it was crazy actually”
She nodded coldly. I didn’t understand what was going on with her. She had this look on her face “New Orleans is beautiful” I nodded in acknowledgement. From where we were sitting you could almost see the whole city. It was indeed a beautiful place to be in. she cleared her throat “so when are we leaving?”
I shrugged my shoulders
“morning girls”
We both turned and it was mom. she looked fresh as though she had been out. it wasn’t that early in the morning, it was probably around 8am or so. The street was quite busy, I’m guessing it was during the week and people were going to work or so.
“hey” we said at the same time
She giggled “how are you guys?” she asked walking towards us
Monalisa shrugged “ok I guess. I mean we still alive” she said rudely
“we ok mom thank you” I said
She nodded brushing my hair back “its ok. you my baby and I would do anything” she kissed the side of my head
Monalisa cleared her throat “can you uhhm take me to the airport, I need to make sure that my father is ok”
I thought she was sweet but I guess she wasn’t, I didn’t understand why she didn’t thank my mother and Mbali for saving us.
“I will drive you later. How are you holding up?” Mbali asked
She shrugged “I don’t know. What’s going to happen to my mother?”
“your mother was a slave to her master, she was in a cult. There was no saving her, her soul was sold to the devil and so that’s where her soul went. To the devil. She is trapped wherever the devil resides” Mbali responded. I looked at her and there was little bit of hurt in her eyes
“so what are you guys?” Monalisa asked with furrowed eyebrows
Mbali smiled “witches. The good ones”
She just nodded “so if you guys are witches, what does that make my mother? Whats the difference between you guys and her?”
That was the last thing I heard from any of them, I feel asleep leaning on my mothers tummy.
When I woke up I was in bed with a fleece over me.
“Welcome to the land of the living” Mona said all dressed up
“was I out that long?” I said rubbing my eyes “why didn’t you wake me?”
“you needed the rest baby. Go shower, we leave in an hour” mom said walking out
I looked around for for something I’d shower with
“theres a towel and toiletries in the bathroom already sweetie” Mbali said
I nodded “thank you” I made my way to the bathroom.
I never noticed how big this room was until now, it was a beautiful place and our room had two separate beds, it had white linen with gold and grey furniture here and there. the bathroom was pure white and had a shower in one corner and a oval shape bath tub on the other corner. I took a shower and just let the water rain on my naked body. This gave me some time to miss Ahlume and to think about how he would react to hearing everything. While deep in my thoughts something struck
What if Ahlume is the wolf Kaylin was talking about? But he was human, he couldn’t possibly be a wolf, it made no sense
I went back and forth with my subconscious, Ahlume was human in any human possible way. he was human and there was nothing that screamed wolf about him unless…
