Chapter 5

I dropped my spoon making it hit the hardwood floors with a ding.  That one small ding seemed to echo through the air.  "Hello?" I called out into the night.  Uprising by Muse played on the television sort of made this whole situation ironic.  I never thought that I would be one of those girls stuck in a house with a complete stranger; a dangerous stranger at that.  I slowly inched my way into the kitchen.  I turned on the light and ran to where we kept our large butcher knives.  I grabbed two of them and ran to another draw.  I opened it up with a creek and glanced around the kitchen.  Luckily, I didn't see anyone.  I grabbed a BIC lighter, you know one of those that you start a grill with, and walked around slowly.

Now, I bet your wondering, why not just call the police?  Well, dear person, the answer is simple.  In all the horror movies where a poor innocent young girl is trapped inside a house with a killer, she always goes to call the police.  Does it work, nope!  It just wastes her time and makes the killer think that he's in control by frightening her.  Sure, I'm scared out of my wits but I'm not going to let him know that.

"Come out you frigging coward!" I yelled in the hall.  Yet, there was no reply.  I walked into the den and saw that all the ice cream stuff was put away.  Wow, that's just great.  I'm stuck in a house with a killer, but, hey, at least he's a thoughtful one!  "I plopped down on the leather couch and looked at the TV even though music was still playing.  Angry Mob by Weezer came on and I couldn't help but laugh.  Why is all this music ironic for my situation?  I place a knife in the couch and the other one and the lighter on the table.  I made the kick stand on the couch come up and laid back closing my eyes.  "Can you just come out already?!" I yelled.  "It's not like I can exactly hurt you now can I?" then a thought occurred to me.  "Unless you're even more psychotic and love to watch me tear myself apart in fear.  It won't work, I'm actually offering myself up!" I yelled in frustration.

Couldn't my killer at least be kind enough to end my life and not postpone the inevitable?  No, I don't want to die.  Quite the opposite to be exact, I want to graduate at the top of my class, go to college, find true love, have kids, and die while helping someone.  I heard a deep chuckle and sighed to myself.  I removed my arm from my eyes and glanced up.

A man in a dark was standing in front of the window.  He has dark brown curly hair, and I could see the muscles of his back.  I can tell that he's awfully pale.  He makes me seem tan.  I can just imagine how handsome his face looks.  Snap.  Out.  Of.  It.  I told myself sternly.  I sighed again and leaned forward.  "So, are we going to get this done or what?" the man turned around and looked at me.  I almost gasped in amazement.  He had chisel features in his white face and his, his eyes were burnt orange color.  He gave me look as if I was the crazy one.  I sighed again and reached for the remote turning off the music.  I moved my legs so they were under me and looked back up at his handsome face.

"Are you going to kill me or not?" I said plainly.

"How can you be so nonchalant about this?" the man inquired.  His voice was music to my ears.  I couldn't help myself to imagine myself in his arms.

I stretched a little, "I'm just tired of games.  If you care, I doubt you do, it's my birthday today.  I went on a date with some guy at school and it was pretty good until he told me some freaking legend."  I glanced up at the man.  "He actually sounded like he believed in werewolves and vampires," the man in front of me turned away from my gaze.  "Ridiculous, and then I come home to an empty house," I glared at him, "well mostly empty anyways, and find out that my parent want me to stay up till they come home just so we can 'talk'.  The whole talk will more than likely be about how I'm not living up to expectations.  So, that's the answer to your question even though I suppose I could have given you the short version but since you're about to take my life, I think you can spare the time," I said and gave a dry laugh.  Wow, I must sound like a lunatic.

"What, you don't believe in vampires?"  Wow, did he just ask me that.

"No, I can't say I do.  Just like, I don't believe in werewolves, fairies, or leprechauns!  Why would you even ask me a stupid question like that?" I asked impatiently.  I glanced at the grandfather's clock and saw it was 11:10.  Wow, in one minute I'll be fifteen.  Then again, in one minute, I might not be alive.

"What if I told you I was a vampire and that I've marked you as my own?" he asked softly.  I looked at him and laughed.  The clock ticked by and I knew that I'm officially fifteen years old, fun!

"I would have to say, after you kill me, maybe you should go to a doctor," I said while wiping the tears from me eyes.  I saw his hands turn into fists.

"Why do you keep on saying that I'll kill you?" he asked angrily.  I stopped my laughing and just looked at him.  He was wearing some sneakers and blue jeans with just a plain red t-shirt.  I looked up into his eyes still surprised at their weird color.  Who has ever seen anyone with orange eyes?

"Well let's see," I said while glancing away from his penetrating gaze, "you snuck into my house, freaked me out, and now were standing here," I said while ticking off my fingers.

"And that marks me as a killer how?" he asked.  I just stared at him.

"Haven't you ever seen those horror movies where there's a girl, home alone, in a house with a stranger who came there without her permission.  That stranger always tries to kill the girl, but, since it's a movie, the girl always survives and the killer gets away or gets put in jail or dies!" I said exasperated.

"Like you said, that's in the movies.  Last time I checked this isn't a movie," he said as he stepped a foot closer to me.  I stood up and sighed in exasperation.  I started to pace around the den.  I pulled the rubber band from my still wet hair and untangled the braid.  My damp hair fell around me like a curtain.  I saw the stranger tense up and glared at him.

"Then why are you here?" I stopped my pacing and stood still with my hands on my hips.  "I mean, if you maybe started out on a nicer note I wouldn't have thought that you were a killer.  You could have rung the doorbell.  Heck, you could have told me your name!" I said while flinging my arms out.

"I'm Micah," he said.  I looked at him.

"You have to be one of the most annoying killers ever," I sighed and dramatically fell onto the couch.

"If I really was a killer, then you would have to be an unusual victim.  You haven't even looked at the phone, you've actually taken a knife to try to protect yourself and then gave yourself up in matters of seconds, and now you're being very good about it all," Micah cocked his head at me.  "And yet, you haven't even told me your name," he said.  I glared at him.

"I haven't looked at the telephone because I knew it would be useless seeing as you're about three times my weight and height and more than likely muscle so why try?  I gave myself up because how likely is it that I could win in a fight against you?  And if what you said earlier is true, shouldn't you know my name since you 'marked'," I made air-quotations around the word marked, "me as yours?"

"Ah, very good Adira, you're catching on," he looked at me strangely.  He scrunched up his eyebrows in concentration, "I'm guessing that you still don't believe me."  I laughed a little at him.

"You guessed correctly.  Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I think this is all a dream brought on my some bad meat I ate at McDonalds.  It would explain this whole night," I said while shuddering softly.  Everything was quiet except for the howling of the wind outside.  Oh how I hate the snow.

"What if I showed you that I wasn't joking and that this isn't a dream?" Micah asked.  I looked at him, scrutinizing every breath he took.

"Depends," I said and rolled my shoulder.

The next thing I know, I feel a freezing grasp on my arm.  It felt like I got shock by electricity.  I open my eyes and I'm in my room on my bed.  Therefore, it was all a dream.  "You believe me now?" whispered Micah.  I shuddered as his freezing breath caressed my neck.  This can't be happening.  Werewolves aren't real.  Vampires aren't real.  This can't be real.

"What now?  Are you going to eat me, or whatever you do?" I whisper out in the night.  I heard him take in a deep breath.

"Of course I'm not going to do that!  Don't you remember me at all?" Micah asked in shock.  I squinted at him in the dark.  Nothing about him seems familiar, at all.

"No, I don't know you," I said with irritation in my voice.  "How could I?" I heard a growl.  I couldn't help but shiver involuntary.  When will this nightmare stop?

Suddenly there's a face in front mine.  I scurried back into the headboard.  "Well I remember you quite well.  You do know that you're half vampire right?"  I just stare at him in shock.  This guy is a lunatic.

"I can't be, for heaven sakes!  My parents are nothing even close to what you speak of," I spit at him through my clenched teeth.  He may make fun of me, but making fun of my family is getting a little too close to home, literally.

Sadness grows in his eyes.  I swear he mutters, "They haven't told her yet," he says in disbelief.  I glare at him.

"What, first I'm told that werewolves are real, and then vampires, and now you're trying to tell me that I'm adopted!  What's next, I'm a princess?" I scream out in frustration.  I'm not sure whom I'm frustrated with to tell you the truth.  Maybe it's my parents, or this guy in front me that may or may not be a vampire.  On the other hand, maybe it's the fact that I can truly see myself being adopted.

"You do remember!" Micah shouts out in glee.  I stare at him in shock.

"I remember nothing of what you speak," I say and then cover my mouth.  Is it just me, or did that sound... old school like?  I close my eyes and tears silently trail down my cheek.  "Just leave me alone!" I cry out into the night and crawl up into a ball.

"Adira, I-I'm sorry.  Please don't weep," Micah says.  I feel pressure on near the head of my bed.  I reach my fit out and hit his rock hard stomach.  No joke, it really is rock hard.  I yank my hand back in pain.

Cradling my hand, I glare up at him, "Leave.  Me.  Alone.  Go away and never come back!" I yell and throw a polka dotted pillow at him.  It bounces harmlessly off him as I continue to cry.

"I will never be able to leave you for long, but for now I'll leave.  Stay safe beautiful Adira," he says.  I feel a hand caress my face and I shudder.  I'm not if I shuddered in delight or in disgust.  After five minutes I look back out into my room to see no one.

.:. What do you guys think of this new guy?  I'm sorry if it's confusing, I'm running on 4 hours of sleep people :)  Well I've got to go to bed... School starts up tomorrow :p!!!  .:.
