That night, they approached them. Their eyes were red from crying and dark from sleep loss, but when the two pulled Will into a large hug they wore a matching pair of sad smiles.
"Thank you," said Sera, her voice tight with tears. "You... you did everything you could have... Don't... don't blame yourself, okay?"
Jesse was normally an exuberant and smiling kind of person, but now they only nodded, finally out of words.
Will's eyes were visibly welling with tears. "I'm sorry," he said. "I should have been able to save him." Nico looked away.
Sera shook her head. "No. It's not your fault. We all know being a demigod is a dangerous life. He was happy here, and he lived a good life. That's what's important. His life, not his death."
Will tried to speak, but the only thing that came out was a choked half-sob.
Nico wrapped his arms around his significant annoyance, and Jesse and Sera soon followed. They cried into each other's shoulders, but they knew it would be alright.
It had to be.
That night, Will stayed in the Hades cabin.
