Latrelle left a few minutes before Dad came home.
I was now sat on the couch watching brooklyn 99.
"Hey dad" I smile as he walks through the door.
I noticed he didn't have his usual smile on.
"Is everything okay?" I ask sitting up.
He takes a seat on the couch besides me.
"Sorry hi Alma. Everything's fine" Dad smiles.
I could tell he was lying.
Something was bothering him.
I pause the TV and turn to face him.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"I have to go abroad for work" He whispers not making eye contact.
"How long?" I ask.
Dad and I didn't spend much time apart since Mom left.
Dad got a job as police officer hoping he wouldn't have to spend time apart from me.
"A week. I hate leaving you home alone. I should tell cheif I won't be going" Dad sighs.
"It's okay dad. You should go. I'll be turning 18 next week. I think i'm old enough to take care of myself" I smile.
"I'll miss your birthday" He sighs.
"I'll move my birthday to the week you come back" I whisper.
"I promise I'll make up for it" He smile.
"I know dad you will. Now go pack" I smile.

The next morning came quickly and I sat on the dining table eating breakfast.
Dad climbs down the stairs with his luggage.
"You excited?" I smile putting on my British accent.
"Alma that was so lame" Dad laughs.
It was nice seeing dad this happy.
He's always put me first but this time I made sure he put himself first.
I notice a car in front.
"The cabs here" I smile as I hug dad.
"You sure you don't want to stay over at Gabriella's" Dad asks.
"I'm fine dad. Now go" I smile pushing him towards the cab.
"Stay safe" He whispers.
"You too and say hi to Queen Elizabeth" I giggle as we enters the cab.
"Will do" He waves.
I watch as the cab drives off and head back inside to get ready for school.

I was now walking through the school gates with Ruby and Jamal by my side.
"You got the house to yourself" Jamal smiles putting his arm around me.
"No parties" I sigh causing Jamal to roll his eyes.
"You don't know what I'd do to get the house to myself" Ruby sighs.
"Tell your dad to get souvenirs. I've always wanted to go to London" Jamal a smiles as he begins daydreaming.
"Earth to Jamal" Olivia smiles waving her hand in front of his face.
"Hey Olivia" I smile and she replies back.
"Sad we didn't get to to the dance after all" She sighs.
"I know" I whisper thinking back to yesterday.
My face lit up when I thought about Latrelle.
"Alma hellooo" Olivia whispers waving her hand in my face.
"Shit sorry" I whisper.
"As I was saying. Penguins can't fly" Olivia smiles.
Huh.
She waves goodbye as she heads off to lesson.
Penguins. What?
I zoned out during that conversation and now I won't know why she was talking about penguins.

School was boring as usual. The classes went slow and so did lunch. I just wanted to go home and sleep.
I heard the dance was called off due to some incident. Cesar made every crash over at Monse's.
I would've went but I'm glad I got to spend that time with Latrelle.
I slam my tray on the table.
The boys jump up in fear.
"I'm tired" I sigh.
"So am I" Cesar sighs rubbing his head.
I guess he was still hungover from yesterday.
"What did you do yesterday?" Olivia asks with a smile upon her face.
I look at her confused as she points to my neck.
I pull out my phone to get a better look.
"Shit" I whisper noticing the hickey on my neck.
"What is it?" Ruby asks curious.
I quickly cover my neck with my hair and pick up my tray.
Olivia chases after me.
"Don't worry I won't tell anyone" She smiles.
"You better not" I giggle playfully punching her in the arm.

Finally the school day was over.
I was now on my way home.
I couldn't believe Latrelle left a hickey on my neck.
What if my dad saw?
As I reach home, I quickly jump on the couch and rest my eyes.
The school year just started and I'm already tired.
A week home alone. I could have Latrelle over as much as I like and I wouldn't have to fear getting caught.
I remembered I still hadn't watched The invisible man yet so I decided I'd have a movie night.
I jump off the couch and head into the kitchen to make popcorn.
Now I was about 30 minutes into the movie.
I could feel a scare jump coming so I tried my best to hide behind a pillow.
A knock on the door caused me to roll my eyes.
"Who is it?" I sigh as I walk towards the door.
I open the door to see Oscar stood there with a smile upon his face.
"What do you want?" I sigh crossing my arms.
The movie got me scared a little so i was in no mood to be happy.
"Jeez Alma. No hi or hello?" Oscar awkwardly laughs.
"Oh I'm sorry. Greetings Oscar. What brings you here?" I ask as I put on a cheery voice.
Oscar let's out a laugh.
"I heard your home alone soo you're coming to stay over at mine" He whispers leaning on the door frame.
"and why would I do that?" I question.
"The dance got cancelled yesterday. It's not safe being here alone" Oscar replies.
"We're in freeridge. It's never safe here" I sigh causing Oscar to get annoyed.
"Alma but-" Oscar whispers.
"I'm perfectly fine by myself and I can definitely protect myself" I smile.
A loud scream from the TV causes me to jump into Oscar's arm.
"You're perfectly fine and you can deffo protect yourself" Oscar laugh as he holds me.
"Okay maybe I lied a little" I giggle.
"Go pack your bags" He whispers putting me back on the ground.
"Fine" I whisper.
Guess I won't be able to have Latrelle over anymore.
