(THIS IS MY LONGEST CHAPTER EVER!!! ALMOST TWO THOUSAND WORDS I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!)
It was the final bell of the day. The first day of school felt so slow. I packed my bag and looked around the classroom for Daichi. I finally spot the boy and yell "Daichi!",I see him turn his head immediately, "do you know where the gym is!?"
"Yes!", he responds while walking toward me, "and stop yelling okay?"
"Okay", I say with a smile, "should we go look for Asahi?"
"Sure", Daichi says, "but what about Suga?"
"Who? Oh you mean that nosy bitch", I say salty.
I hear Daichi chuckle and he pats me on the back and say, "yeah, but he seems like a good guy so try and get along. He is joining the volleyball team so your gonna see him a lot more".
"Fine", I say, "but if he ever looks at me when I'm texting I will slap him".
Daichi considers what I just said and responds with, "okay that's fair".
"C'mon", I say grabbing my bag, "let's go find Asahi and what's-his-name".
Daichi playfully rolls his eyes and shows me where the gym is located.
We arrive at the gym and see Asahi and Suga standing outside of the door waiting for us. "It's starts in ten minutes", Suga says, "we have to wait here and the third years have to talk to us before we're allowed to change".
"Okay", Daichi and I say in synch.
I feel my phone vibrate and I see Wakatoshi is calling me.
"Sorry I gotta take this", I say.
"It's cool", Asahi says.
"I bet it's Wakatoshi~", I hear Suga day teasingly.
"Suga...", Daichi says threateningly, "his business is HIS business".
I stop listening and pick up and here Wakatoshi go, "hello".
"Hi Wakatoshi!", I say happily, "I'm starting my first day of volleyball at Karasuno! I'm excited! but I'm also nervous..."
"Don't be nervous!", says Wakatoshi quickly,"don't ever doubt your skills and if they can't realize how talented you are then it is there loss!"
"I-I uh-", I didn't have time to finish comprehending all the praise Wakatoshi gave me because he wasn't done.
"Listen right here!", I listen very throughly, "You are very good at volleyball and many things as well. You know your weaknesses and know how to improve them. It's one of the the things I lo- admire about you. You know other people's weaknesses and know how to help them as well. You work great in a team okay. I'd say wish you luck but you don't need it".
"Wakatoshi...", I feel my heart pound in my chest. I feel the warm tears stream down my face. I feel my smile reach the corners of my face.
"Yes Hikaru", he says softly.
"I will kick your ass one day!", I say confidently.
I hear him chuckle over the phone, "we will see strawberry~, we will see".
"I gotta go now", I say still smiling wide, " bye bye Toshi~".
"Bye Hikaru", he says softly.
I hang up and look at the sky and feel invincible. But then my eyes go wide and I realize something. Did he almost say "it's one of the reasons I love you"? This is the second time I've though I've heard him says this, but does he love me. I start to look down but make eye contact with hazel eyes, and a sly smirk. "Just friends huh?", he says slyly.
"Shut up!", I say angrily, "we are just friends!"
"Sure, sure whatever you say", he says teasingly.
"Are you sure you and Daichi are just friends?", I see his face warm up. "I know you just met him today but you look at him in a certain way that I can tell you like him?", I say smirking. Suga's face is still red and confused on how I understood his signs before and he could. "Am I wrong?"
"Yes you are!", he says flustered. "I met him today and I have no romantic feelings towards him", he say surprised how quickly the tables had turned.
"Sure, sure whatever you say", I say mocking him.
His face is still flustered when Daichi and Asahi tell us it's time to go inside because the third years want to speak to us. Suga and I follow them into the gym. I feel my eyes light up seeing the volleyball court. I feel myself getting and adrenaline rush from how excited I am. I look up to see three third years looking right at us. One was bald with gray eyes, one had black hair and eyes with freckles, and one had blonde hair and black eyes. The one with black hair and eyes spoke and said, "wow you guys showed up the first day! I'm impressed. Hi it's nice to see some first years really excited about volleyball. I'm Aito and I'm your captain", he says smiling.
"Hi", says the blonde one, "I'm Yukio and I'm the team's setter". He gives us a big smile.
"Hello", says the bald one, "I'm Hiro! I'm the ace of the team"
"What are your names?", Aito asks.
"I'm Hikaru Nakamura! I'm so excited to be playing volleyball on this team!", I say excitedly.
"Love the enthusiasm!", Hiro says giving me a high five.
"I'm Daichi Sawamura", Daichi says smiling widely, "it's so cool to be here".
"I'm Sugawara Koshi", he says calmly, "I can't wait to play volleyball!"
"H-hi I'm Asahi Azume", he says shyly.
Aito nudges Yukio, "he is just like you in first year", he whispers.
Yukio nudges Aito harder and Aito laughs.
"Okay", Hiro starts, "let's see what you first years got!"
We all look at each other and I realize a way I could impress them. If it went well...
"Can I show you my serves?", I say very nervous.
"Sure", Aito says, "can you jump serve?"
"Yes!", I say nervous.
"Okay let's see what you got first year!", Hiro says. He throws me a volleyball and I catch it feel extremely nervous. Everyone's eyes were on me and I tried to calm down. I focus on what Wakatoshi said to me earlier.
"I can do this", I whisper.
I throw the ball high in the air, get ready, jump and serve it over the net. The slap noise of the serve echoed and I smiled realizing I hadn't fucked up. I look over yo see everyone with wide eyes.
"Wow...", Yukio starts, "that was... AMAZING! The execution was perfect! And it was so fast it felt like a dream!"
"Um-uh th-thanks", I say blushing from all the praise.
"Yeah kid", Hiro says, "you got a lot of potential. That jump was great though!"
"You may be short but you can jump!", Aito says.
I feel my face heat up even more from all the praise and look over at Asahi, Daichi, and Suga. They all had big smiles on their faces and were very happy for me.
"Th-thank y-you", I say as red as my hair. Thank god Wakatoshi wasn't here or I'd be called a strawberry the rest of the day.
"Hey gu-guys", I turn to Suga, Daichi, and Asahi, "why don't you show him what you can do".
"I can set pretty well", Suga said nervously. I didn't mean to upstage anyone but it seems like I did.
"Okay", Yukio says,"I'll take Suga to see how he sets".
"Alright", Aito says, "what can you guys do?" Aito faces Asahi and Daichi.
"I can spike and receive pretty well", Daichi says looking at Aito.
"I-I c-can spike and j-jump pr-pretty high", he says shyly.
"Okay I'll test out your jumps and receives", Aito says. "Hiro", Aito turns to Hiro, "take Hikaru and do the vertical jumping drill".
Hiro's face looks at me concerned, "Are you sure Aito? It's his first day and that's a hard drill".
"I think he can handle it, besides you saw his jump serve, I'm sure he'll be fine", Aito says.
"Okay whatever you say Aito", Hiro says.
"What's the vertical jumping drill?", I ask confused.
"You jump as high as you can trying to hit the basketball backboard", Aito says as if it's not hard.
I feel my eyes go wide but then I calm down. I need to improve so I needed to work hard. "I'll do it", I say confidently.
"I like this first year", says Aito. "Since it's your first day you don't have to do this but we would say a goal we had for the day and wouldn't be allowed to leave till the goal was accomplished".
"You don't have to-", Hiro starts.
"I will", I say confidently, "I won't leave till I get my whole hand on the basketball backboard".
"I love this first year!", Hiro yells.
"Let's see if he'll keep that promise", Aito says.

It was time for everyone to leave but I still hadn't gotten my whole hand on the backboard.
"Hikaru seriously getting three fingers that high on the first day is fine", Aito says. "You can go home", he says.
"It may be fine but it's not good!", I say.
"You all can go now", Aito says.
"Actually I'd like to stay too", Suga says. "I want to stay as well".
"Same", Daichi says, "maybe you can set some balls for me Suga".
"Sure", Yukio says, "I'll help Suga and Daichi. You make sure Hikaru doesn't pass out".
"I won't", I say a little harshly. I take three gasps for air and get ready to try again. I hear volleyball bouncing in the background but I don't focus on it. I keep my focus on getting my whole hand to hit the basketball backboard. It becomes another failed attempt. I feel sweat drip down my face. C'mom I gotta get my shit together. I can do this. My body feels like lead and I didn't know if I could do it much longer. I walked back to where I was feelings Aito's look of concern. I get ready to run and I jump but this time it's different. I feel like I had grown wings and was flying. I got my whole hand and part of my wrist to hit against the basketball backboard. I see Aito run towards me and get ready to catch me but I land perfectly on the floor with the biggest smile on my face.
"You are gonna give me a heart attack", Aito says worried.
My legs drop to the floor but my smile doesn't falter a bit. I look at Aito with the biggest smile and go "I did it!"
"Yeah you did", he says smiling back.
"Okay all first years go home!", he yells. "It's really late okay and you've all done well".
"Why aren't you and Yukio going home?", I ask curiously.
Aito looks Yukio in the eye and Yukio blushes. "I need to teach Yukio something about volleyball okay", he says.
"Okay", I say (I was so innocent).
Suga, Daichi, and I get out bags and leave. I text Wakatoshi everything that happened and wait for my mom to pick me up. My mom and I drive in silence and I take a shower, and go to sleep dreaming of the day I'd kick Wakatoshi's ass.
