Waking up, Hermione realized she was alone in the room...alone except for Hermès and Ophelia of course. But they were extremely quiet...sometimes she even forgot about them.
Draco always waited for her or woke her up...he never left without her, so waking up alone that morning was a bit unsettling to her, but nonetheless, she got out of bed and began getting ready, thoughts of where Draco could be on her mind.
After giving Ophelia a quick pet and treat and raking a comb through her hair but giving up and pulling it into a quick updo, she decides to head to the Great Hall without him for the first time in a long time.
By the time she arrived at the Great Hall, it was half-eight, and Ginny, Harry, and Ron were already well into their meals
"Where have you been? Sleep in?" She asks, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively
"I didn't mean to...usually Draco wakes me up, but he wasn't there when I woke up...we usually walk down and wait for each other. It's weird, but I'm probably just overreacting." She sighs, piling her plate with food and digging into her meal
"Maybe he was just really hungry this morning and forgot? Oh! Maybe he has some kind of surprise for you, and he had to wake up early!" Ginny says enthusiastically
"Thanks for trying to remedy the situation, when I see him I'll ask why he didn't wait. It's not a big deal, but it is bothering me a bit...I'm sorry, it's silly," she sighed
"Let's get it off your mind and eat our breakfast, yeah?" Ginny says, rubbing Hermione's shoulder
They continue eating and conversing, avoiding the topic of marriage and Draco to keep Hermione's mind off of him
"So one of our beaters - Robbie - we picked him because he seemed to know what he was doing...but the boy is a bloody idiot. Honestly, how daft can you possibly be? He doesn't even use his bat...I think he's confused about his position, he's trying to be a chaser and keeps going for the quaffle. I think we're going to have to sit him down and explain the entire game to him...again." Ginny rambles to Hermione, the boys nodding to support her story of how idiotic this wizard - Robbie - was.
"Gin...how old is Robbie?" Hermione asks
Perhaps his age had something to do with it
"He's a second year...why?" She tells her
"Well, I don't think he's ever really seen a proper quidditch match then. And he's extremely young; give him some grace. The poor boy's last year at Hogwarts was miserable for a little first year. Be nice, Ginny. I know how you can be." She begs
"I guess you're right. Dang. I really wanted to scare a little kid today." She frowns
"If you want to get your anger out...take it out on me, not poor Robbie. Even though he is quite rubbish." Harry laughs
"Compared to you. Everyone is rubbish."Ginny says, Leaning in to kiss her fiancé, causing Ron and Hermione to roll their eyes
"Ya know. Your actual brother is sitting right here. I swear she does this to me every time. We came back after being gone for months last year, and I didn't even get a 'hello'. Ya know, I thought I was pretty good, Gin." He laughs
"Come on, Ron. Harry's our seeker. And my fiancé...and I guess the chosen one but that's only a small thing, so we won't even count it." She giggles
"Sometimes I feel weird when you lot talk about Quidditch, and I have absolutely no idea what to say." Hermione laughs awkwardly
"Right...sorry 'Mione. How is prepping for the NEWTS coming?" Harry asks her, hoping to draw the conversation toward something she's willing to talk about
"Great! I've got a really good set study schedule. If any of you lot need help making one I would be happy to help. I'm studying for all of them, so I'm happy to help you study too." Hermione smiles
They all nod, knowing that if they open their mouths, something sarcastic will come out. They know they need to study, but it isn't quite a top priority for any of them just yet.
Leaving the Great Hall, they all head back to their shared common room to grab their things before heading off to their classes: Ginny to Defense Against the Dark Arts and Harry, Ron and Hermione to Transfiguration.
The Slytherin students were also in this class with them, so she had always walked with Draco and Pansy, but today she was with Ron, Harry, and Pansy...no Draco...again.
"Hey, Pansy? Have you seen Draco today? I haven't seen him, and he's worried me." She asks, pulling the raven-haired girl to the side, away from the boys
"He was at breakfast, but I showed up late, and he left early. He went to talk with the new girl. Which confused me a bit since I thought we hated her. Blaise told me she gave him an apology note and cake yesterday. Maybe he was thanking her for it?" She suggests, trying to make Hermione feel better about her missing fiancé
"I didn't know he got an apology from her...I didn't get one. He better be in class, or I'm going to hex him into next year." She says annoyed
Walking into the classroom and sitting down at their desks, Hermione waits patiently for Draco to show up to class, but by the time class starts, he still isn't in the seat next to her.
Ten more minutes pass, and he walks into the room slowly, causing several heads to turn and McGonagall to shake her head.
"Nice of you to join us, Mr.Malfoy. Take your seat and see me after." She says and continues teaching
Draco slowly takes his seat next to Hermione, pulls out a piece of parchment, quill, and ink, and begins writing down what Professor McGonagall is saying.
Usually, Hermione doesn't talk to her peers in class, but this one was bugging her too much. She just had to know where Draco had been and why he was late to class.
Leaning over to him, she whispers, "Where have you been? Is everything alright?"
Instead of answering her verbally, he looks at her, nods, and continues writing away everything McGonagall says
Huffing in annoyance, Hermione gives up and focuses her attention back on the lesson, his crappy answer on her mind.

Walking out of class, Hermione grabs Draco's hand after he speaks to Professor McGonagall and pulls them straight to their room to discuss today's events.
"Where have you been all day? Why were you late to class? You've had me worried." Hermione asks, taking a seat at her desk while Draco lays down on his bed
"Well. I went to breakfast, then I went on a walk, then I came back here and took a nap. Then to class." He tells her shortly
"Pansy said you were talking to Alexandra...why? She was horrible to us." She asks, wanting a real answer
"I can have other friends, Granger. Honestly, we're not married yet. Let it go." He says annoyed
His answer caught Hermione off guard. She wasn't expecting that. First, he called her Granger. Something he hadn't called her since the first week of last term. Second, he basically told her to get off his back because they weren't married...what did that mean? She just asked a simple question...Third, he told her to let it go. He had been missing the entire morning; how could she just let that go? She was supposed to be married to him and didn't want him getting into any trouble, and she knew for a fact that Alexandra was trouble...and lots of it.
"Draco Malfoy. We are engaged. We are going to be married. While we may not be married yet, I have a right to know where you are, so I am not worried you're getting back into trouble. I am just looking out for you. How am I supposed to let it go when you've been gone all morning? There hasn't been one day we've gone down separately since the beginning of last semester. And...and...you called me Granger. What happened to Otter? Jean? 'Mione? Draco. What is going on?" She asks sternly, tears slightly pricking her eyes in her anger
"Nothing happened. I just came to my senses. I may be forced to marry you, but it doesn't have to mean I love you. Of course, I don't! Why would I love you when I can have someone like Alexandra? Now, excuse me. I think I'll go blow off some steam." He says, angrily walking out of their room, presumably to find Alexandra to 'blow off some steam.'
Hermione was left sitting at her desk, silent tears running down her face.
