Chapter 6:

Zane wasn't kidding either when he said we had a lot of work to do. Despite my protests he made me wear sweatpants and made me do a lot of body building. I was surprised at how much I could lift. Never in my life was I able to lift something that heavy before. Zane laughed at the expression on my face.

"Your body is improving every day. Every hour you get stronger, and faster. That's what distinguishes us from the humans. They could never be able to improve their body as fast as we can."

I looked down at my hands still in shock at what they were capable of . I didn't look up at Zane as I asked, "whats the difference between humans and us?" Besides the fact that we were ten times stronger then the average human.

His answer shocked me even more. "We're half vampire and half human." I opened my mouth to ask my next question but he cut me off. "When man first walked the Earth there were three different species. The humans of course think there was one, but their version of how man was created is totally different from ours.

"Humans, Vampires, and Witches walked the Earth since day one. Back then there wasn't any conflicts like there were now. The three species all lived peacefully together.

"Of course the three decided that they had to populate the world, so the Vampire and human got together. Creating what runs through your veins. Later on the Witch was added in the mix making the Shadow Vampire.

"The Witch found the Vampire sucking the blood out of the first human. She was devastated and thought he was hurting her friend. So she lit him on fire with her Powers. The problem continued when the Hunters found out the Shadow Vampire was killing their people.

"That's where it all started, why we are trained to kill off the Vampires and Shadow Vampires. Our kind made a vow a long time ago to rid the Earth of evil. Even though half of the evil runs through our veins. We promised to protect the humans from what they believe is only a faerie tale."

I sat there processing what he said. Vampire, Witches and Shadow Vampires? I always thought the first two were just part of nightmares, scary stories people made up for their own entertainment. Not something that actually walked the Earth.

"You mean one of my parents was a Vampire?"

Zane laughed. "No that hasn't happened in centuries. We can't create our own kids, but one of your parents had to be a Hunter in order to create you. The other was a human. Your mix genes make you capable of killing the demons."

The next part hit me hard. I will have to kill these things. That was a huge problem. I couldn't see myself in the future killing something that was supposedly so powerful that more than half of my kind were dieing from it.

"What's the difference from a Vampire and a Shadow Vampire?" My voice came out small and weak. I scowled at myself for showing weakness around a guy like Zane.

"Vampires are easier to kill."

I looked up from my hands, he didn't say anymore. The look in his eyes made me shiver. They were cold, and reminded me of ice cubes as he stared down at me. He broke our gaze, staring off into the distance, sorrow masked his features. He look like a child, obviously remembering a horrid memory. Something I would probably hide from.

Moments past before he looked at me and tried to smile, it almost worked. "Well its getting late, and you should head off to your next classes. I don't want to hold you in for more than you need to be."

He stalked out, leaving me alone in theempty room.

My next classes were easier than I had imagined. The first class talked about the techniques that we will learn, and how to do it. Luckily I was paired up with Mason. It made me feel better that I was fighting someone I knew.

After class Mason and I found out we had the last two classes with each other. Walking side by side I tried not to be too sarcastic. "I'm ready to take down all Evil creatures of the night."

Mason laughed at my attempt to sound like a bad ass. "Slow down Blaire. I think I did a better job than you today." He smiled down at me making my heart flutter.

"Yeah well we all know that I can kick your ass any day." This made him laugh harder as we entered Hunter Training class.

He was my partner again, and my earlier comments about my fighting proved me wrong once again. Mason held out a hand to help me up. "Not as bad ass as you thought you were huh?"

I rubbed the spot on my arm where I had taken a few good blows. "Oh shut up, tomorrow your dead meat."

Our next class happened to be next door. Right when we walked into the fairly large room I stopped dead in my tracks. "Blade" was standing not too far from us, holding a knife, ready to throw it at a row of dummies. Or so I hoped.

With little effort she threw the knife at the tall brown haired dummy girl, hitting her in the forehead, I expected it to fall out but it didn't. Which told me that she had threw it in deep. I had to resist the urge to throw up at the thought of her doing that to a real person. Evil or not.

Mason grabbed my arm to steer me away from the horrible scene. I looked at where he was heading me. Outside where there were targets and, so help me God, bow and arrows.

One girl that was holding one had black hair and green eyes, she gave Mason an movie star smile. "Hey hottie." She grabbed a hold of his arm playfully. He ignored her, jerking away from her polished nails as he walked away with me in tow.

"Who was that?" She looked like some supermodel.

"Kathrine Wilde. She's not the best girl to hang around with, she's very demanding when it comes to boys. And tries to..." He trailed off suddenly feeling uncomfortable about talking about Kathrine.

"So basically a slut." Mason looked down at me surprised I had said that.

He nodded. "Yeah I guess you can call her that." His silence came after that. And it told me he didn't want to talk about her anymore. He led me over to one of the bow and arrows.

"I am not using one of those." I said as I tried to get out of his insanely strong grip. He didn't seem to notice my protest either. I silently cursed the size of being small.

He picked up one of the arrows handing it to me. I knew how to use one, but I was no where near capable of using it again. Last time I shot an arrow I hit one of the instructors. Sending her to the hospital because it went through her upper arm.

I grimaced from the memory. Mason saw my reaction and thought it was because I was nervous. He helped me put the arrow in contact with the bow, showing me where to point when aiming it at the target.

I told him I had done this before. He stepped back, leaving me alone with only a bow and arrow and a target.

I pulled back the arrow aiming it at the red dot on the paper. When I let go I didn't expect it to go anywhere near the target. To my surprise it hit it straight on, I turned around to look at Mason shocked at what I had just done.

"Your reflexes and sight are improving rapidly. I don't think anyones transformation has sped up this quickly."

I smiled at Mason. Happy that I had finally found something that I was really good at. I looked back at the arrow in the paper, yeah I could get used to this.

Combat class was like the Hunting technique class. Only harder because Mason didn't give me sympathy that time. Which I hated him for.

I hated Zane more when he made me do more body building, despite my whining about me being sore and in pain. He tried hard not to laugh at my expression the whole time. If I had a stake I would have shown him who really would be in pain.

The day finally ended after that. I was so tired that I crawled into bed skipping dinner and social time with my new friends.

My last thought was of Zane, how good he looked, and smelled. I opposed those who fell in love with their teachers but Zane was different. He wasn't a normal teacher, he was a teacher who actually cared for his students and wanted to protect them at all costs. Watching him watch me today I gathered that he was the protective type. Which only made him sexier.

I smiled as I fell asleep thinking of those deep blue eyes. For the first time since my parent's murder I fell into a deep and nightmare free sleep.
