EPILOGUE
**8 Years Later**
JASON’S POV
Driving up to the house, tired, hungry and happy it was finally Friday and that the week was done. Now it was time to relax, or try at least.
Last week, it had been 8 years of marriage for Leah and I. We’ve had our ups and downs but I wouldn’t want them to be spent with anyone else.
Things had changed so much in the last few years.
Chris and I had started a moving company 7 years ago, JC Moving and it was going great. We weren’t sure at first if it would work but when Leah started working with us, it couldn’t be better.
Leah had gone to college a year after we were married and went to study business. It took four years but she finished. We had a big party after her graduation and she wanted to work with Chris and I. We had our company 4 years by then and we were doing well but when she got on board, things really picked up.
After the wedding, we bought a home, outside the city with enough land. We had a small forest near our backyard and she was really happy about that. Kept calling it our new park, which always made me laugh.
A few months after the wedding we started talking about having kids so we tried but it didn’t work. I kept trying to make her laugh to lighten the mood a bit, saying it was fun to try and we should keep trying as many times per day as possible.
I could tell it was taking a toll on her, so we went to see her doctor to check. With the abuse from her childhood to her teens years, made it difficult for her to get pregnant but they told us to keep trying, that it was still possible.
So we tried and tried. She would stress out and complain about everything I did and then apologized. It was a difficult time, for her but also for me. I wished I could help and she was angry. Angry about everything, mostly her past…she thought she was done with her past but I don’t think she had thought of this.
One year after she finished college, we found out we were pregnant. She made me promises not to say anything to anyone until she was past her 3 months.
We wanted to know if it was a boy or a girl. We both didn’t care as long as the child was healthy. They told us we were going to have a baby girl.
We got home and Leah asked if I had a name in mind. I had no idea but she did…
‘Alice Horton.’ She said.
I thought it for a few seconds, it was perfect. My wife was alive because of her aunt, she had risk her life to save Leah. Naming our daughter Alice was a great choice.
‘I love it.’ I had told her.
One year after finishing college and working with us, Alice was born.
Having JC Moving helped, I could come home for diner, be here every second weekend, Chris did the other.
Finally reaching our house, I parked my truck and got out heading towards the front door.
Trying to keep quiet, I found that Alice would say the funniest things to Leah when I wasn’t here.
I peeked my head just a little and saw both of them in the living room. Leah was on the couch and Alice in front of her with her hands on her hips.
‘But why?’ I heard our two year old ask.
‘Forget you heard me say it.’ Leah told her.
‘I can’t forget, I want to know what it means.’ She asked.
‘Why?’ Leah asked, losing patience. I knew it was my cue to enter.
‘Hey ladies.’ I said, turning the corner so they both could see me.
‘Daddy!’ Alice yelled running to me.
‘Hey honey, how was your day?’ I asked picking her up.
‘Good.’ She stated giving me a hug.
‘Daddy, what’s eye candy?’ she asked.
I coughed trying not to laugh, ‘Where did you hear that?’ I asked her, looking at my lovely wife.
Leah had her hands on her face and she was beet red.
‘I heard mommy talking to Aunt Laura and she said she saw eye candy everyday and didn’t need anything else. What is it? Can I eat it?! It must be so good, it’s candy.’ She said excited.
Leah was laughing silently with her hands still in front of her face, clearly not wanting to explain.
‘Well, eye candy is…well it’s…you know…’ I tried saying.
‘No daddy I don’t know.’ She cut in.
‘Well…you don’t need to worry about this now. When you’re older around…30 years old, you can ask me again. Deal?!’ I asked her, hoping she’d fall for it.
‘Promise?!’ she yelled.
‘Yeah, I promise.’ I said to her. I kissed her cheek and set her down. As soon her feet touched the floor she ran strait for her toys.
‘Hi.’ I said, sitting on the couch next to Leah, putting my arm around her.
She took her hands off her face and looked at me, her face still beet red.
‘I’m sorry. I was in the kitchen, I thought she was watching her cartoons and…yeah.’ She said.
I laughed, ‘So who’s this eye candy you see everyday?’ I asked her smirking.
She rolled her eyes, ‘Just this guy. He’s cute.’
‘Oh yeah.’ I said, nodding my head.
‘Jealous?’ she asked turning her body so she could see me better.
‘This guy, that’s cute, what’s his name?’ I asked her.
‘Well, I don’t think his name matters, but,’ she started saying then looked at Alice and got closer to my ear.
‘He’s really good in the sac, like…wow. He’s a beast.’ She said.
I looked at her with confusion and started to worry.
She had a big smile on her face, until she realized I didn’t get it. She rolled her eyes, ‘Baby,’ she said laughing and shaking her head. ‘You are my eye candy I see everyday, you are really good in the sac…like wow. Baby, it’s you.’ She said to me, realizing I was worried.
‘So…no other…?’ I asked hesitantly.
She hit my arm pretty good, ‘No!’ she said shaking her head.
‘Since I meet you, you’ve always been the one, the only one. No one else can or could ever compare to you.’ She said.
I smiled at her and finally gave her a kiss. ‘Good. Same here.’ I said to her.
‘Good, so…did I give your ego the boost he needed.’ She asked.
I laughed, ‘Oh yeah.’ I said nodding.
‘I love you, even when you piss me off to no ends.’ She said.
‘Right back at yeah baby.’ I said to her.
The bell rang, I gave Leah a quick kiss and then went to get the door.
‘Hi everyone!’ I said to my brother, Laura and their 3 kids.
‘Hey, take him.’ Chris said to me.
‘Okay.’ I said taking William from him.
I saw Laura rolling her eyes, ‘Hey come on in, Alice and Leah are in the living room.’ I said to them.
‘Hi, how are you?’ Laura asked me.
‘Good, tired and you?’ I said, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
‘Good and tired.’ She said with a smile.
‘Adam, Rachel, Alice is in the living room.’ She said to their two other kids. Chris and Laura had gotten married two years after Leah and I. I could still see the way my brother looked at her. He was still completely in love with her and Leah said the same thing about Laura.
‘How do you keep your head strait?’ I asked her.
‘Some days I don’t. You’d go crazy staying home with Rachel and Will, and when Adam gets home from school, it’s…crazy. But I wouldn’t want it any other way.’ She said smiling.
‘Hey.’ Chris said from behind me.
I turned a bit to see him. ‘Where’d you go?’ I asked him giving him back Will.
‘Pee.’ He simply said.
I nodded and we went in the living room.
I took my seat beside my wife putting my arm around her. She smiled and gave me a kiss then looked at Laura who was sitting on Leah’s other side.
‘You got me in trouble.’ Leah whispered to Laura. Laura seemed confused so I heard ‘Eye candy?’ from Leah.
Laura’s eye went big, ‘No she heard you!’
‘Yeah, asked over and over. When Jason got home, she asked him.’ Leah told her.
They both laughed.
‘You need help with diner?’ Laura asked Leah.
‘Everything is in the oven, so for now, we’re good.’ Leah said to her smiling.
‘Should we start their movie now or wait?’ I asked the ladies.
‘Now.’ Leah and Laura said at the same time then laughed.
‘Which movie?’ Chris asked.
‘Let me look.’ I said getting up and walking towards our movie collection. Not really looking, I picked a cartoon I knew they all loved. Putting it into the DVD then pressed play.
Then all the kids started talking at the same time. I shook my head but Chris was pretty good, he understood all of them, which made me laugh.
‘I can’t believe you named them after actors.’ Leah said to Laura
‘Yeah I know, but their good names.’ She told Leah.
‘Are you going to tell them when they grow up?’ She asked Laura.
‘Oh, good God no!’ she answered laughing making Leah laugh.
‘Are you going to tell Alice about…everything?’ she asked Leah.
‘Good question.’ Leah looked at me, ‘I think we will but wait until she’s an adult or close to. She doesn’t need to know or worry about those things. We want to keep her protected for as long as we can.’ Leah said still looking at me.
I nodded my head, sitting back on the couch and kissed the side of her head.
‘Are you two going to try for another one?’ Nudging her head in the directions of the kids.
I smiled, ‘We never stopped trying.’ I answered her question.
‘If it happens, it happens but if it doesn’t, than that’s ok. We’re lucky to have Alice so we’ll see. We’re not putting pressure this time and I’m happy with that.’ Leah answered.
‘Yeah, me too.’ I said.
‘Crap’ she whispered, ‘Adam!’ ‘I’ll be back.’ She said getting up to talk too Adam that was pulling Rachel’s hair.
‘No! You don’t pull peoples hair!’ Laura told him.
‘Why?’ he asked and Leah and me just started laughing.
‘You sure?’ I asked her.
She looked at me, ‘About?’
‘No pressure?’ I asked.
‘Yeah, before I didn’t like the person I was becoming. I never want to put you through that again, it wasn’t fair to you. We can keep trying and see, but not putting our hopes up. What do you think?’ she asked.
‘Great plan.’ I said.
‘You sure?’ she asked.
‘Absolutely.’ I answered bringing her closer to me and kissed her. I heard Adam saying, gross, and Leah smiled against my lips.
I broke the kiss since there were kids around. ‘I love you.’ I told her.
‘I love you too.’
I smirked, ‘Good to hear.’ I told her.
‘Come with me for two seconds?’ She asked me. I nodded and we both got up.
‘We’ll be right back.’ I said to Chris and Laura.
‘Don’t be gone for like an hour alright?!’ Laura said to us. Leah laughed and said. ‘Yes mom, whatever you say.’
We went to the kitchen, Leah checked on diner while I check out her ass, and then she turned and looked at me. She smiled and got close to my ear, ‘You know the guy I see everyday? My good eye candy?’ she asked. I nodded my head smirking.
‘Well, there’s a really, really good chance that he’s getting lucky tonight if he’s up for it. I want it fast…real fast.’ She said then backed away to see my face.
I smiled at her and shook my head. Feeling my bulge in my pants grow just thinking about it and could picture it in my head. She just smirked back at me.
Now I got closer to her ear and whispered, ‘That’s evil, you know.’
I heard her giggle and node her head.
‘I know, but you can’t do anything about it right now.’ She said smiling her good girl smile at me.
I shook my head. ‘I know, but I will, later. Trust me baby.’ I said to her, smiling my nice smile myself.
She knew how to tease, that hadn’t change but she always forgot that I was also good with pay back. For her to tease was ok, when I did it, it wasn’t nice.
With the both of us smiling at each other, I pulled her closer and gave her a kiss, she immediately kissed me back.
After 8 years of marriage, I was still the luckiest man on Earth. I had a great brother, sister-in-law, nephews and a niece, the most amazing wife, and a daughter than I loved with my whole heart.
I was excited to see where our future would take us, if we would have more kids…
I knew if we stayed the three of us, I’d be happy.
Our life wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty darn close and that was good with me.
