I am standing outside of Greyson's door, the simple wooden opening scares me more than one would think. I should probably knock so I can get out of the cold, these black leggings don't keep much cold out. I'm wearing a coat but it is still pretty chilly. I came to study, but who knows what else could happen. What if he cooks something to eat, what he wants to take a break, that means casual chit chat. I'm not so good with casual. Or chit chat.
I suddenly lurch forward and knock before I can stop myself, letting out breath I didn't know I was holding. Once the door opens I go light headed with worry, maybe he changed his mind and doesn't want to hang out with me? "Hey, come in," his smile is welcoming as he invites me in.
His house is small, but super cozy and I like it. The walls are a warm brown and the floors are wooden, the furniture seems old but comfortable. It gives a tiny cottage type feel and to me it's great. Way better than my modern house, which just seems to have a cold atmosphere. He matches the house, with simply jeans and a nice shirt, simple yet nice. He takes my coat and puts it into the closet, noticing he's not wearing shoes I kick off my knock off Uggs from Walmart and neatly setting them to the side. "It's cozy," I give him a grin and look around some more.
"My family is at the movies until late tonight so we can study in peace," he gestures towards the living room. I walk in and take a seat on the couch, letting out a tiny giggle as I sink into the soft cushion. "Would you like a drink?"
"No thanks," I respond politely. But he still doesn't sit and gives me a quizzical look, followed by a smirk.
"I'm getting a drink anyways," he add and I realize he wants me to get something as well.
"I'll just have a water," I shrug. He nods and hurries from the room. I take this opportunity to explore the room and check out the pictures and knick knacks decorating the walls. There is an adorable picture of what looks like Greyson and one of his brothers. They've got to be no older than six, with cheeky smiles and toothy grins. The two brothers are covered in head to toe in mud and dirt, they are both kneeling in a little creek in a forest.
"I like that picture," I gasp and turn around with the picture frame still in my hands. Surprised to see Greyson there with two glasses of water. "Ready to study?" I nod and sit next to him on the couch, grabbing my textbook out of the bag I brought with me.
We study for a good hour, stopping every once and a while to chat, before taking a break to eat some food. I know that before I was super nervous about this but now I'm having a good time and all worries are out the window. We just chill out and make some sandwiches, peanut butter and jam. The two of us sit on the couch and eat while chatting. Once we're both finished Greyson decides to scare me with saying, "there is something important I need to tell you."
"What?" I look around the room in a panic.
"C-can you look at me," I oblige. "This is not only about me, but about Capri and Dyson as well." I go to talk but he lifts his hand to stop me, "just hear me out okay?"
"Okay."
"Well, here it is. Last Summer, I was in a gang. Capri was too, Dyson was caught up in it too," Greyson explains. Would you like to know what I decide to do. I run.
