UK Home Save LTD | Energy-saving Tips On Kitchen Appliances

For most families, maximum energy is consumed in the kitchen. From refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, cookers, blenders to other kitchen appliances, there is a wide range of appliances used in the kitchen that consumes about 40% of the total energy in the home. You can save more energy through the cost-effective use of refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers and other appliances.

Refrigerator

To make a kitchen energy-efficient, you need to plan properly. While designing the kitchen, you should invest in a refrigerator with the Energy Guide label. It explains how much electricity in kilowatt-hours will be consumed by a particular model. If you invest in a lesser energy-consuming refrigerator, you can save more on your energy bill. Also, you should also check the Energy Star label. An integrated refrigerator with an Energy Star label can save at least 15% energy compared with other non-qualified models, and 40% less energy than old conventional models manufactured before 2001.

Energy-Saving Tips when using a Refrigerator

Avoid keeping the temperature too cold. The average temperature for the fresh food compartment should be 3°C, which is a good target. It indicates that without freezing the food, you can keep them below 4°C. For the freezing zone, the temperature should be below 0°C.

The refrigerator door seal must be airtight. Check it by keeping a piece of paper half in and half out of the refrigerator door and closing it. If you can pull the paper easily, you need to understand that the door is not airtight and the latch is required to be adjusted.

Store the wrapped foods and covered liquids in the refrigerator so that you can avoid the release of moisture from uncovered foods. The moisture released from the uncovered foods puts pressure on the compressor to work harder.

Above all, you should always buy the right size refrigerator that fulfills your household refrigeration needs. The top freezer models are more energy-efficient than side-by-side models. You may look for features such as icemakers and water dispensers.

Dishwasher

The maximum amount of energy consumed by a dishwasher is for heating water. While buying dishwater, you should look for an integrated dishwasher model with its appropriate Energy label so that you can make out how much energy the appliance is going to consume every year to run it and heat the water.

Dishwasher Energy and Water-Saving TipsBefore using the dishwasher, read the manual for the manufacturer's recommendation on water temperature. Some models have internal heating elements so that the users can adjust the temperature of the water heater as per the requirements of their household.

Only in case of dried or burned-out food, the users should soak or pre-wash the utensils.

The dishwasher is fully loaded before you run it. But don't overload it.

If you use the 'rinse hold' tab in the machine only for a few soiled dishes, it may take 3–7 gallons of hot water for each use. Try to avoid using this tab to save water.
