"Just because we don't go to class doesn't mean we don't have to do the work, you know?" You groan.
Your best friend, Janice grasps your hand as you both push through the crowded streets.
"If things go as planned, then I won't have to worry about the work, you know?"
Janice nervously chuckles as you duck into a bakery, finding temporary solitude for your aching bodies.
"Why am I here then? I still have to do it."
Staring at the desserts, you sighed.
Five hours away from university, in New York City on a Wednesday.
With your best friend who dragged you along because she couldn't figure out how the train systems worked.
"Hey, who knows..
Maybe you'll find your soulmate in the city! How romantic~" Janice says, poking your side.
Your soulmate tattoo had recently appeared on your skin, and Janice couldn't help but tease you.
The blurred lines slowly formed into numbers and letters.

There was still a decent amount of information that needed developing before you can actually begin your search.
"Yah why are you still hung up about that? Even if I did meet them, it'd be pretty hard to be sure right then."
"Just ask them to take off their shirt." She winks as you both sit at a high table.
"JAN!" You punch her shoulder when she laughs.
Not too much was known about soulmates; the core donates of their birthplace, birthdate, and the time you'll realize who your soulmate is.
All would be printed somewhere on your body.
The location of the tattoo corresponded with your soulmate's too.
The minor inconvenience? Your tattoo ran along your rib cage, right under your chest.
How were you supposed to go about that?
"How are you feeling about today?" You move along from the topic.
"It'll be okay today, right?"
She looks down at the time on her phone and nervously twirls her thumbs.
The audition would be starting soon and the change in atmosphere was apparent in the conversation.
As members of the K-Pop dance crew at your school, performing public shows was nothing new.
What was new was when a JYPE recruiter followed you, and offered you an audition to become a trainee.
This, however, isn't that audition - that took place about 4 years ago, and you've been a JYP trainee ever since.
Your parents always supported your love for music, but still wanted you to get an education.
Which is why you're in the U.S.
You had stayed in Korea to finish high school, living with the other trainees and becoming familiar with the industry.
Your family agreed that if you successfully moved to the States to finish the first year of college, then you can do online school and reside in Korea to become an idol.
Until then, JYP has been signing you up for dance classes and vocal lessons in the U.S. so you don't fall behind.
"Things are going to be fine, we can't control everything, but let's just focus on what we can control." You smile.
While in the U.S., BigHit Entertainment announced global auditions for their first girl group.
That is this audition.
Janice's audition.
Hopping off your stools, you both head to the door to become one with the city yet again.

You wandered into the recital hall, filled with echoes and the sight of teenage panic.
People stretching and practicing filled the room as everyone anxiously awaited for their name to be called.
You guide Janice to the end of the hall that was less occupied with bodies.
"I'm here for you. Just run some scales, warm up.
Take it easy, whatever happens, I'm proud of you."
You place your hands on her shoulders to guide her to sit on the chair.

4:30pm. 10 minutes
Jan's nerves get to her as she insists you perform the choreography together since you learned it together.
"Please, I have to get the chorus down." She begs as you sit to stretch.
You're so immersed in the music that you both fail to recognize a figure that approaches.
The figure clears their throat causing you both to freeze, snapping your heads towards them.
"Janice Park?" he questions while looking between the both of you.
"Oh, that would be me!" Janice steps up to the man and bows.
"Very well, they are waiting for you in the hall." Janice nods and scurries away.
"Are you auditioning as well?"
The figure looks towards you, as you look towards your best friend.
"Oh, I wasn't planning on it? I'm just here to support." You give an awkward smile, tilting your head a bit.
"That's a shame, you really should. We saw you rehearsing with Ms. Park and really believe you have the potential to become a trainee."
Yeah you're not the first to say that.
"Ah, well I didn't even schedule an audition, let alone have anything prepared."
You shake your head.
"That shouldn't be an issue. We can squeeze you in after Ms. Park! And if things don't go as planned, we'll gladly accept an email audition as temporary replacement."
How can things go as planned when you have nothing planned?
"Um..okay yeah. I guess I'll audition.." You say mindlessly.
That's when reality hits.
This is BigHit.
You didn't plan on auditioning for BigHit as you didn't plan on passing. Although you'd secured a spot under JYPE, you've been uncertain about keeping that position.
"Perfect! Here are some forms we'd like you to fill prior to the audition, and we'll call you in when we're ready!" he smiles and bows before walking back to the hall.
They begin Jan's audition once he returns.
He's judging?
And he spoke to you personally about auditioning?
You slump back into your chair, more exhausted from dancing than before.
