Alex woke up in his bed. He sat up quickly, hoping it was all just a nightmare. His eyes darted around the room for some sort of answers. The last thing he could remember was his argument with Luna and then it went kind of blurry.
He was still fully clothed, laid on top of the covers with no shoes on. Someone must have brought him home. His head was pounding, he clearly didn't take the argument well.
The other side of his bed looked untouched, that made his heart cry out in pain. She was gone, where did she go? How did all go wrong so quickly, they were only in this room the day before watching each other get ready and saying how much they loved each other. The thought brought tears to his eyes.
Stepping into the shower, he felt betrayed. He didn't know who was in the wrong, it all seemed to surface so quickly. How long had she felt like that? Had she been feigning happiness this whole time?
He knew that maybe he got too close to Alexandra, didn't realise the way it may have looked to Luna. It made sense how she had reacted, that is why she was angry and upset. He was upset because she was late because of her interview, that did make him disappointed but she apologised and said she understood that she fucked up.
How did it all go wrong so quickly?
With a towel wrapped around his waist, he walked downstairs to what he assumed was an empty house. Instead, he found a tall blonde stood in his kitchen, his heart dropped.
"Who are you?" He asked without thinking. She turned around and raised her eyebrows in offense.
"Good morning to you too, Alex." She responded rather harshly.
Alex was panicking, he wouldn't have slept with someone else would he? He would never dream of it, but he wasn't in the right state of mind last night and he was angry with Luna.
"Why are you in my house?" He asked, hoping to just push away the problem that was arising. His heart was breaking, thinking he was going to have to tell Luna. He hadn't felt this much pain in a long time. It was too much to handle.
"Me and Miles dropped you off last night and stayed over to make sure you woke up this morning. He's just gone to get food." She explained. Alex's body relaxed so much his towel almost fell off.
"I'm going to get dressed." Was all he said as he turned around and walked back upstairs.
"I'll make you a coffee." She replied. Alex winced at the sound of her voice. She was the surprise he really didn't need in the morning.
He heard the door slam downstairs as he put on his joggers and t shirt. Out of curiosity, he looked in Luna's wardrobe but it was empty. His heart dropped and smashed into the pit of his stomach.
"Fuck." He yelled, slamming the doors but they just bounced off middle and swung back at him, reminding him of what he's lost.
He stormed downstairs, knowing Miles was there now. How could she leave him like this? They hadn't even talked it out, just yelled at each other. How are they meant to sort it out if they're not in the same vicinity.
"Morning, Al!" Miles beamed. Alex stopped in his tracks, why was he so perky? Hadn't he heard? The love of his life had just left him, why wasn't he reacting?
"Miles." He said in a low voice, ignoring the blonde once again.
"Where's Luna gone? I thought she'd be here when I brought you home last night. Mate, I haven't seen you that fucked since..." he trailed off and looked at the tired Alex. "Wait, did something happen?" Alex looked at the girl and then at the floor, he didn't want to tell her as he barely knew her.
"Hey, love. Why don't you go back to the hotel?" He smiled at her and passing her a few notes presumably to get a cab. She didn't say anything, just picked up her stuff and left.
The door slamming made Alex jump, triggering something in him that made him break down. Miles stared at him, how could he have missed this?
"Woah, Al. What's going on? What happened?" He put his arm around him and Alex just melted into him, wrapping both arms tightly around him and crying his eyes out.
"She's gone. I don't know where she's gone. She said she wouldn't leave me and she's gone." He blubbered. Miles was beyond confused.
"Just out of the blue?" He asked. Alex pulled away from the hug and collapsed onto his large sofa, where him and Luna had spent countless hours.
"We had a fight last night and now she's gone." He just wanted her back so they could sort it out and go back to the way it was. He felt so empty without her to hold.
"What was the fight about?" Miles sat by his head and pulled it onto his lap, ready to make him feel better.
"She got jealous over Alexandra and I was angry that she was late because of her interview and it just got bigger and bigger until I was yelling that the reason she was feeling that way is because she couldn't handle my life and needed an excuse to get out." He said in a low groan, realising how bad it actually was.
"Oof." Miles chuckled. Alex nodded.
"I didn't mean it though." He mumbled. Miles smiled slightly and stroked his hair.
"I know you didn't. I don't think she did though otherwise she'd still be here." He put bluntly. Alex sat up and rubbed his eyes, shaking his head.
"But I don't understand why she thought I have feelings for Alexandra." All the things they said to each other was rushing back, his head was pounding with words. "It doesn't make any sense."
"Women don't make sense, Alex." He sighed.
"But why didn't she say anything before? She seemed so happy before, whenever we spoke about Alexandra she didn't mind. She fucking came to the studio." He pulled at his skin so roughly it hurt. "And now she's saying that we've been arguing because of Alexandra, we had one argument." He was rambling to try and make sense of the mess going on his head.
"Okay, look Al. Clearly it was a big argument but are you really going to let her go because of it?" He questioned. Alex thought about it, which made Miles raise his eyebrows.
"I love her so much, Miles. I feel like she doesn't want to be with me anymore." He said quietly.
"What makes you think that? She got jealous, that means she cares about you." He pointed out. Alex shook his head.
"She said, just because we have a history doesn't mean I'm the one. If that doesn't scream, I want out, I don't know what does." He sighed.
"Why don't you call her?" He suggested. Alex chewed his lip.
"She won't answer." He predicted. Miles shrugged.
"If you're willing to let her go that easy, maybe she was right." He knew it wasn't true but Miles wasn't about to let Alex give up so quickly.
"Fuck off, Miles. I don't feel anything for Alexandra other than friendship. I love Luna so much. I hate what I said to her but what if she doesn't want to be with me anymore. I don't know if I can handle that." He sighed.
"Alex, you're thirty years old. You need to figure out whether this girl is forever or not. Sort it out because it's not like your getting any younger. I know you think she's it, so tell her and let her tell you how she feels." He handed him his phone. Alex stared at it and took it from him.
"I don't know if I should. Clearly she doesn't know what she wants. Should I just give her some space?" He said to the phone.
"Maybe call Matt or your mum, get a woman's opinion." Mike suggested, Alex wasn't listening to him which meant it was serious.
"My mum?" He missed his family, so much. Luna and him had planned to go back to Sheffield for Christmas. Would that even happen now?
"I think you should call a woman at least. Get a girls point of view." Alex was looking through his contacts and only a few names down was someone he trusted with his whole heart. He pressed on the name and stood up without a word, walking out into his garden.
"Alex Turner, what a surprise." Her voice rang into his ear. He chewed his lip, not sure if it was a good idea anymore.
"Alexa...hey." He sighed. "I probably shouldn't be calling you about this." He confessed.
"Okay, well tell me the topic and maybe I can guide you to someone you should talk to." She suggested. He missed her voice sometimes, not in a romantic way but it was so familiar.
"It's about Luna." He sat on a deck chair and allowed the Los Angeles sun beat down on him, it was slightly chilly but still warmer than anywhere in England.
"Right. Good or bad? Are we looking at breaking point or proposal?" She was so light hearted, if she only knew how much pain Alex was in.
"Breaking point." He replied. She was silent for a moment.
"Right. I get why you might not want to talk to me about this. Why did you call me?" She asked.
"A woman's opinion on the situation." He answered honestly. Another silent moment went by.
"Tell me the situation. I'll do my best." She decided.
Alex went into it in full detail, knowing he could trust her not to take it any further than that phone call. She answered with small 'okay's and 'right's until he was finished relaying the night to her.
"So, what do you think?" He asked.
"This is the girl who's boyfriend cheated on her with her sister right?" Alex's face dropped, he had basically forgotten about that.
"Yes."
"No woman no matter how strong is going to ever forget that happened to them. Plus, you did a runner on her in the past so unless she's fucking superwoman, she's going to have some trust issues." She concluded.
"So she doesn't trust me?" He tried to wrap his head around how Alexa could just understand the situation perfectly.
"Of course she does. She probably doesn't actually think that you love this Alexandra girl but it can't of been nice to see you look at her as if you were. The jealous feeling probably triggered something in her and then you getting all defensive and telling her what she wants probably didn't help either." She explained. Alex absorbed the information for a moment.
"Fuck. What do I do?" He wondered.
"Where is she now?"
"I haven't the foggiest." He almost laughed, it was ridiculous that he couldn't even try and fathom where she was. She could be half way to London for all he knew.
"Okay well maybe give her some space. Let her think about what she wants because clearly you're doubting it. Send her a text letting her know that you're there whenever she's ready to discuss it." She advised.
"Okay. I'll do that. Shall I apologise?" He only just realised he had been chewing his nails throughout the conversation so he wiped them on his leg and sat on his hand.
"Say you're sorry for how it went down. Do all the apologising in person so it comes across sincere."
"Okay. Thank you, Alexa." He said sincerely.
"Anytime, Al. Merry christmas." She chuckled.
"And you."
