Special thanks to CharlotteKurai8880 for recommending Harper Lee!

Nelle Harper Lee was an acclaimed American novelist, who was born in 1926 and passed away in 2016. In 2007 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contribution to literature, although she'd only published two works.

To Kill a Mockingbird, the first of Lee's two novels, was enormously popular and is her best-known work. Published in 1960, the novel won a Pulitzer Prize in the following year.

The main focus of Lee's classic novel is the racism and prejudice observed by a young girl within the community surrounding her. Lee was inspired to write To Kill a Mockingbird by events from her own childhood while growing up in the American Deep South.

This week's questions:

Have you ever been inspired to write a story about social injustices you've personally observed or experienced?

Do you feel that works of fiction can have a profound impact on readers today?

We also welcome any other discussion or comments about Harper Lee or her works.

If you have another author you'd like to see a discussion on, please leave it in the comments below for a chance to be featured in a future chapter!

Have fun!
