The fox was too wily for me.
There it was, its home in the forest—
a black new moon to accompany soft, padded feet.
Drawing out the wild inside of me, taunting me to follow.
Half blind and solitary, the cold soft grass
a pleasant respite from the heat of the sun.
Calls and yapping prick the ears.
It's time to come home, time to dig up secrets.
Deep and covered in the dark forest bottom, it is
the world minus me.
Disturbed at the sudden shock of loneliness,
muscles tense, honor to fight, honor to fly.
What you wished the night would be, you would never tell.
