~Niall~

I watched in awe as the beautiful butterfly rested gently on Harry’s leg, and watched his face break out into a small smile in awe of the little creature. I remembered that butterfly well; it was the one I had run into before I had heroically saved Harry from a bunch of thugs. It fluttered its wing delicately, and it looked so fragile- like if you touched it, it would break into a million little pieces that you could never put back together again.

After a minute of staring at it, it got bored- apparently, that’s what I think happened anyways- and batted its stunning wings and lifted into the air. It flew up to me, landing gracefully on my nose for a bit, causing me to go cross eyed just to see it. I could hear the deep chuckle that rumbled from Harry, and I almost rolled my eyes, but I held myself back in fear of scaring away the beautiful little thing perched on my nose. The thing was obviously just teasing me because next thing I know it=s gone, flying off into the forest with its delicate little wings.

I huffed, crossing my arms across my chest and stuck my tongue out at a laughing Harry. I couldn’t really be bothered though, his laugh sounded beautiful. It was the kind of laugh that made you want to laugh along even if he was laughing at you. I smiled widely in response, unable to stop myself from staring at him.

“What? Do I have something on my face?” He questioned slightly frantic and I just shook my head laughing, snapping out of my reverie. He was a beautiful person, but I didn’t want to risk anything. He would leave when we reached our destination, and I didn’t want to get hurt. I didn’t need any more hurt, no more loss, and no more attachment.

You can’t stop the way you feel. It could be true love.” Bane said in my head, while she carefully landed next to me. The sun was now completely under the horizon, and we didn’t have much to start a fire with.

I can try.” I answered back through my thoughts, getting up to look around for more wood. Harry watched me confused, probably because of the way my smile had completely wiped off my face at the thought of him abandoning us. We had only known each other for a handful of days; I shouldn’t be as attached to him as I was.

“Wood. We need to start a fire silly.” I answered back chidingly, like I would with a small child that was confused. He glared, but nodded, and stuck his tongue out childishly. I would miss this.

You don’t need to miss anything. I may not trust him completely but I’m not stupid Niall. I can sense how you feel about him. Maybe you should invite him to stay, in the future when we trust him more, but still maybe. I don’t want you to drown in sadness.” Bane spoke again, the sincerity in her voice causing me to stop. It meant a lot that she was urging me to possibly invite Harry home, back to the clan. I was happy that she was warming up to him, but at the same time I didn’t want to risk something like what had happened to me mum to happen again.

I couldn’t handle that.

“Oh, I’ll um- I’ll help?” He questioned uncertainly, but didn’t wait for my response and instead took off in the opposite direction to look for more wood. I stared at his retreating figure with confused eyes, wondering where the sudden mood switch had come from. I frowned, and tugged at the fabric on my wrist instinctually to make sure my mark was covered. I reached up to touch my back, and felt relieved to feel the material of the shirt I was wearing high enough to cover the other markings. Sighing deeply I finished collecting some twigs and sticks and brought them back to the small circle we had made, tossing them down roughly in the middle.

“Touchy subject.” I answered back. Sitting back and watching as Bane lit the wood quickly. “Thank you.” I answered again, the answer meaning more than one thing. She looked at me, with these knowing eyes, showing she understood the other meanings as well. I sat back watching the fire and waiting for Harry to come stumbling back to the fire at any minute. He couldn’t have gotten that far with his ankle, and he was more than welcome to leave if he wanted to. (It wouldn’t hurt, I promise- or that’s what I’ll tell myself until it stops hurting) But then my mind raced with scenarios, like what if he got lost again? What if he had fallen and hurt himself worse? Maybe he’s fallen and can’t get up? My mind was racing and I was about to get up and go find him myself when there was a rustling not too far away. I relaxed slightly, staring at the place the rustling had come from.

Instead of Harry, out popped a rabbit, casually hoping about and eating random patches of grass as it made its way to the other edge of our circle. I frowned, now getting extremely worried. I got up; walking the same way Harry had disappeared, walking cautiously. I didn’t know what I would find in this forest.

I walked farther and farther away from the warm orange glow of the fire, frowning as I saw twigs and sticks on the ground occasionally. Maybe he really did leave, maybe he got tired of us- of me- and decided to run away. That thought both saddened and killed me, but it was the most likely answer to the great missing Harry. I turned on my heel, slowly, sadly, making my way back to the comforting orange glow where at least I still had Bane.

On my way back, though, I was pulled and pushed against a tree. My captor yelling out a ‘Boo’ and me being me did the only thing that I could do- I socked them in the stomach. The familiar groan hit my ears, and I pulled the boy up by his shoulders and hugged him while I sighed in relief. It was Harry.

“I’m sorry but god; don’t do that to me again you bastard! I had thought you left and then I thought you were a damned slayer and god, my heart is beating so quickly it’s going to bounce out of my chest and into yours.” I rambled, hand over my heart dramatically. He wheezed out a laugh, still clutching his stomach.

“You have one wicked punch mate that is for sure.” He answered back, allowing me to help him back to the fire. Bane glanced up as we approached but didn’t ask me anything- probably already knowing what happened from her incredible hearing. Damn eavesdropper.

I gently placed him back down into a seated position, right across from Bane and I sat next to him, gently directing his head to lie on my shoulder. I wanted to at least make sure he was comfortable after punching him in the stomach. He chuckled, but allowed me to manipulate his body the way I thought would bring the best comfort.

Once we were both comfortable, cuddled up for the most part, I carefully tugged at the material on my wrist- something I did out of nervous habit, especially in this forested area that was crawling with Slayers. But, my insistent tugging must have caught Harry’s attention because he grabbed my wrist to stop me from tugging at it again.

“Why do you keep doing that?” He questioned softly, and I decided to play dumb.

“Doing what?” I questioned innocently, and watched as he himself tugged on the cloth like I had many times before.

“That, the tugging on this fabric. Does it itch? Why don’t you take it off if it does?” He questioned sincerely, like my itching arm was the most important thing in the world.

“It’s just a nervous habit, I need to keep my marks covered- especially here.” I answered, gazing into his incredibly green eyes.

“What marks?” He questioned, his eyes shining in curiosity. I chuckled, glancing around at the surrounding forestry.

“It’s safe.” Bane reassured me and I nodded in thanks in her direction. I slowly unwrapped the mark, nervously, my hand shaking slightly. Sensing my nervousness, and probably catching on to the shaking of my hand, Harry helped take off the cloth to reveal my mark.

It was a small, pound sized mark, of two dragons forming a circle- one emerald green like Bane, and the other a bright blood red like the color of the Crimson Clan’s emblem- and in the center was a intricate letter ‘B’ in a beautiful font. Harry examined it closely, tracing over the dragons, and then the ‘B; before glancing up at me for an explanation.

“I mentioned once, that dragons choose their riders and not the other way around. When you first get your dragon, there’s a connection to be made, most times it’s when your dragon bites you. It makes the connection, and then you’re linked for life. When that connection is made, you get a marking- like the one on my wrist- but it’s different for everyone. It usually has something to show you’re a rider: the green dragon here, and something to show who the dragon is: the ‘B’ right here.” I started to explain, tracing over each piece that I explained. “And, if you’re born into a clan that you will inevitably stay in forever, there will be a piece there too, and that would be the crimson dragon here. It’s to show I’m part of the crimson clan.” I finished my explanation and he nodded in understanding.

“You have another marking on your back too then?” He asked and I nodded, shuffling so we were both sat up again so I could take off my shirt to reveal my upper back. I untied the string holding my vest closed, taking the material off before untying the top of my sleeveless shirt. I slid the white material off of me, taking deep breaths as to brace myself for Harry’s reaction. Slowly, I turned showing my back to him.

He gasped loudly, and I shut my eyes tightly in response.

Little cliffhanger. Oops?

Anywhore, picture on the side is Niall’s wrist tattoo- except the dragons are crimson and emerald green and there’s a cursive ‘B’ in the center of the circle.

How is Harry going to react to the ‘marking’ on Niall’s back?

What is to come?

Is there going to be drama soon?

When are the others coming in?

What do you think about Niall’s wrist tattoo?

What small details have come up several times already that you’ve caught?

Also! I need a few more questions before I post the Q&A so please send in more questions! Thank you all!!!! (the most creative question will get a dedication on the Q&A)
