This story, while mostly from an original character's point of view, is centered around Carl. That's what you're here for, aren't you? I won't bore you with recreations of scenes from the show repeated word for word and instead focus almost completely on her interactions with Carl. That being said, she does have a life outside of what you read. She has other relationships, interactions, and takes witness to the large scenes that take place throughout the show but you will mostly only read about them through her memory/thought process. But you're here for Carl and I'm giving you Carl. Yay!
And about our original character, Eleanor. She has a huge inner struggle towards where her morals lie in a world run by the dead. She must come to terms with the fact that it's not just good verses evil, that sometimes good people must do evil things when choices are limited and survival is on the line. Her relationship with Carl provides a large portion of this struggle, she knows the firsthand consequences of caring for someone and tries to shut herself off to the possibility that Carl could become an incredibly important facet of her life. While Carl on the other hand is more open to such a relationship and straightforward about what he wants, which makes him more vulnerable and susceptible to the emotions he allows himself to feel. This results in quite an ambiguous dynamic between the two.
This story is a very long slow burn.
