The next day
“Mom?” Elizabeth calls from her room.
“What? What’s wrong?” Elizabeth’s mom asks rushing into Elizabeth’s hospital room.
“I-I have a question,” Elizabeth asks nervously fumbling with her hands.
“What’s your question?” Elizabeth’s mom responds in a curious tone.
“Well, err.. why didn’t anyone bother to mention something about my spleen yesterday?” the nurse said she needs an answer tomorrow,” Elizabeth explains further into detail after her mom gave her a confused look.
“She needs an answer tomorrow? Oh god she said we had a lot of time to think,” Elizabeth’s mom mutters under her breath.
“What?” Elizabeth asks looking her mother in the eyes.
“Nothing, honestly Jackson being next to you really set off your dad so we forgot to talk about it,” her mom explains.
“So you forgot about something that involves your daughter’s health? I see how it is,” Elizabeth replies hurt holding back her tears.
“That’s not what I meant Elizabeth Rose Jones, and you know that,” her mom replies harshly.
Elizabeth just sits there blinking back the tears, trying to not let them pour over.
“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell at you, I’m just so stressed out,” her mom begins to ramble off.
“Yeah, because of me,” Elizabeth mumbles.
“No, not because of you. It’s just that I have a lot of work related stuff going on,” Elizabeth’s mom begins to explain.
“So in other words me being in the hospital is taking away from ‘work related stuff’ and adding to your stress,” Elizabeth interrupts.
“Elizabeth, you aren’t a problem. You aren’t adding to my stress. Please just understand that,” Elizabeth’s mom begs.
“Whatever,” Elizabeth snaps not wanting to start another argument with her mom.
“So my spleen? What are we going to do?” Elizabeth asks quietly looking at her mom.
“It’s honestly up to you. I mean it’s your body, which makes it your spleen,” her mom responds.
“But what if I do get the surgery to have it removes and it back fire and they end up doing something wrong?” Elizabeth begins to ramble off.
“They are paid enough money not to mess up. And if they do then will sue until we win the case,” Elizabeth’s mom responds trying to not think if that were to happen.
“But doctors are human, they can make mistakes,” Elizabeth replies worried.
“Well we will get you the best doctor we can find so he won’t mess up,” Elizabeth’s mom responds trying to calm her daughter down.
“But that kind of doctor will cost way too much money, I don’t want to put you and dad into debt,” Elizabeth replies equally as worried as before.
“Well then stop worrying,” her mom replies a bit harsh.
“Easier said than done,” Elizabeth mumbles to herself.
“Hmmm?” Elizabeth mom asks facing Elizabeth.
“Nothing, ummm, can we please get a nurse in here?” Elizabeth asks quickly.
“Y-yeah,” Elizabeth replies nervously and bolts out of the door.
Only a mere three minutes later a nurse comes rushing into Elizabeth’s room with a medical kit in hand.
“What do you need? Your mom acted like you were dying, you don’t look like you are dying,” the nurse says closing the door to the room.
“No. I’m not dying. My mom is just a bit…overprotective,” Elizabeth replies with a light giggle.
“I see, so what did you need?” the nurse asks looking over at Elizabeth.
“I wanted to know which choice I should choose. Having my spleen just stitched up or having it completely removed,” Elizabeth replies shyly.
“Well it’s up to you for…” the nurse begins to say.
“I’m so sick of that sentence. I asked you to come here to help me find out what’s best for me,” Elizabeth replies her voice getting louder with each word.
“Sorry, ummm, hang on let me get your information so I can see what’s going on,” the nurse replies and quickly scurries out of the room.
Elizabeth’s POV
Ugh I probably scared her away. I need to learn to control my anger better; I always hold in all my anger and blow up on the wrong person.
~~10 minutes later~~
The nurse comes back into the room with a folder in hand a slightly nervous looking face.
“Sorry I pretty much yelled at you.. This is just so frustrating,” Elizabeth mumbles slightly fumbling with her hands.
“It’s fine, I’m use to it with this job,” the nurse replies with a slight smile.
“Do you want your mom or any of your family in the room with you as you take in all of this information?” the nurse asks looking at Elizabeth and grabbing a phone.
“Nah, my mom said it’s my body. I have control over what I want to do with it,” Elizabeth replies with a bit of confidence.
“Ok, well personally what I’m thinking is you should have it removed based on what your file says,” the nurse begins to explain.
“Ok, any specific reasons I shouldn’t have the spleen just stitched up?” Elizabeth questions.
“Well I mean you could but there’s always a chance the stitches won’t let your spleen heal properly and you could end up needing it removed anyway,” the nurse explains.
“Ok, what’s the umm, I guess what could go wrong with just having it completely removed?” Elizabeth questions fumbling with her words slightly.
“Well, not to scare you but of course they could damage any organ around your spleen but that could also go wrong for just stitching it as well. But it’s a greater chance when removing an organ because of the instrument used,” the nurse begins to explain.
“Ok, so could anything else go wrong with having it removed?” Elizabeth questions with worry plastered on her face.
“Well depending on how your body reacts you might need an organ transplant but normally people don’t need one,” the nurse explains.
“Ok, hmmm, would I be able to just talk to me mom before I tell you my decision?” Elizabeth asks her hands slightly shaking.
“Yeah of course. Just let me know your answer by the end of the day or early tomorrow morning,” the nurse informed Elizabeth and then walks out of the room to get Elizabeth’s mom.
Elizabeth’s POV
They say ‘oh take your time’ and ‘no rush’ but then tell you when they need the answer by that makes complete sense…….
Elizabeth’s mom walks into the room breaking Elizabeth from her thoughts and then takes a seat right next to Elizabeth’s bed.
“So the nurse told me that you wanted to talk to me before you gave them an answer?” Elizabeth’s mom questions.
“Yeah, that’s true,” Elizabeth replies vaguely staring out the window.
“So, what were you thinking?” Elizabeth’s mom asks trying to get an answer but not wanting to push the idea to much.
“I-I don’t know mom. I’m so scared to make the wrong decision. What if I chose something and I get worse?” Elizabeth asks breaking down looking over at her mom.
“I know this sucks but one day you’ll understand why this all happened,” Elizabeth’s mom whispers into her ear and wraps her arms around Elizabeth.
