Chapter 20
1970

okay, can I just- This gif... I... fuck.
Okay, I'm done. On with the story now.
Start the new year with a bang hehe ;)

><

"Not to be dramatic, but if you stop kissing me now, I'm jumping off this roof."

"Just catching my breath, Rog." Maya's smile widened as Roger nuzzled his face in the crook of her neck, planting kisses there as she sighed.

A loud bang ripped away their attention. The sound of cheers followed. Maya and Roger's eyes shot towards sparks of fireworks squealing and spitting out in the air from afar. Maya stared wide-eyed in fascination. She never saw the fireworks up this close. The rooftop was blasted with each vibrant wave of colour the firework splattered across the night sky.

She tried to concentrate on each flare of flames in the air, but she couldn't help but blush wildly as she peripherally saw Roger study her so closely. "I love this..." Maya faintly breathed.

"Yeah, they really went full out this year." Roger said, eyes squinting at the brightness of the fireworks.

"No..." Maya smirked. "I meant..." She turned to face Roger, returning her fingers across his jaw. She whispered into the gap between his parted lips. "I love feeling your eyes on me when you think I can't see you."

Roger's lips twitched up in a smile as he brushed a loose strand of hair from Maya's face. "Happy New Year, Maya."

"Happy New Year, Roger."

Roger inched his lips towards hers planting a tender peck.

Maya smiled against his lips, leading him to pull back and quirk an eyebrow at her.

"So..." Maya whispered suggestively.

"'So'?" Roger mumbled.

As a cheeky epiphany brightened in her mind, she tried to mask an eager smile. "So when are we telling Freddie?"

"What?" Roger chuckled.

"About us. We should tell him soon." Maya nodded.

Roger furrowed his brows, still lightly laughing. "Why would we need to tell him soon?"

"Well..." Maya fought against the smirk that tried to etch its way across her face. "Shouldn't the best man be one of the first to know?"

Roger's smile faltered. "...Best man?"

"For the wedding, of course." Maya exclaimed. "You were going to ask Freddie to be your best man, weren't you?"

Roger's eyes widened, as his feet shuffled backwards from Maya. "W-What?"

"Oh! I'm sorry..." Maya frowned. "How stupid of me. You were thinking of Brian, weren't you?"

"I..." Roger stammered, feverishly scanning Maya's serious expression. "What are you on about?"

Maya smirked. "No need to play coy, Rog. I know you had this planned out."

"What?"

"You planned to take me up to the roof on New Years all along."

"Well, er - yes. I anticipated something to happen but-"

Maya pulled his face closer to hers. "I've always wanted to be proposed to on New Years Eve."

"P-Proposed?"

Maya giggled. "Yes. Sorry to spoil the moment, but there's no need to go through the formalities. After all, we already live together. We're already friends. We pretty much skipped dozens of those dreary relationship stages. We can just skip right to the chapel."

Roger mouth fluctuated between opening and closing as he tried to force words out from his throat. "Maya..."

"I know, I know. Eloping sounds a little impulsive but..." Maya pressed herself closer to him. "I don't want us to have sex before we're married. And the problematic thing is..." Maya planted faint kisses along his jaw. "I want you now."

"Maya..." Roger shuddered as Maya pressed herself closer to him. He gulped as he shook her off, pushing her back slightly, making her face him as he gathered himself. "Look, Maya... Fuck, how do I say this..." He sighed as Maya tilted her head, seemingly oblivious to his panic. "You... You're..." Roger's voice dropped as he began to observe a faint ghost of a smile shimmer across Maya's lips. "You're... You're fucking with me, aren't you?"

Maya's body collapsed into his as she spat out a raucous laugh, wrapping her arms around him and burying her face in his neck to muffle the sound.

"Maya, for fuck's sake." Roger exclaimed, muffling a groan with his hand.

"Your... face..." Maya wheezed, trying to catch her breath. She pulled back from him, keeling over in laughter.

"You evil minx." Roger's eyes squinted venomously at her. "Maya... C'mere..." His voice dropped to a low hum.

Maya straightened herself abruptly. Her laugh stopped in her throat as she observed his expression. He approached her stealthily like a snake slithering through grass awaiting to jump out towards its prey. She stepped backwards, inching away from him as the intensity in his eyes burned wildly.

"Rog..." Maya put her hands up defensively, as her voice cracked under his intense stare. A devilish smirk appeared across his lips as he saw how helpless she was now. No longer the one laughing, Maya shifted further away from him, trying to subtly feel her way for the door.

"C'mere..." His voice hummed again.

Maya saw as his eyes shifted towards her hand which was stealthily clasping around the door handle leading downstairs. His eyes rapidly shifted back to her. A pause suspended between them as an identical mischievous smirk appeared on both their lips.

Roger lurched forward. Maya squealed as she pulled open the door, trying to close it behind her as she ran down the stairs. Roger was a significantly much better runner than her, so as he chased behind her, she was sure to weave around the crowds of people to create more obstacles for him.

Soon enough, they couldn't see each other through the crowds. Though, that didn't matter. They both knew where they were running to.

Roger lost sight of Maya, unsure if she ran ahead and already made it to their apartment or got caught up in a crowd. He had hoped it was the latter, wishing to beat her there.

As he jogged down the final flight of stairs that led to their floor, he charged through the corridor. In his rush, he harshly collided into someone, their drink flying in the air and drenching his face and the tips of his hair.

Roger cursed loudly as his eyes blinked against the burning liquid. He managed to open an eye to see a disorientated John trying to find his balance against the wall.

"Oh, shit, John. I'm so sorry." It was hard for Roger to see, but he reached his hand out, feeling for John's shoulder to give him a comforting pat.

"Rogggg-ah." John slurred, drunkenly.

Roger finally managed to open his eyes. "John." He tried to grab John's attention as John's eyes fluttered closed as he leaned against the wall. "John, look at me. Are you okay?"

John pouted. "You stole my drink, Roggg-ahhh." He mumbled. John lifted up his cup holding it by Roger's shoulder as he used his other hand to squeeze out the liquid from Roger's hair and into his cup.

"Deaky, that is feral. Please don't drink that." Roger shook his head.

John smirked as he downed the small drops that he managed to capture. "Mmm, coconut..." He hummed.

"Yeah, that's from my shampoo, mate." Roger chuckled. He sighed. "So, are you alright?" He clarified, desperate to move on and meet Maya.

"No." John pouted. "It hurts." He whined as his head tipsily bobbed about.

"Where? Where does it hurt?" Roger scanned John's body for injuries.

"Here." John exclaimed, pointing to his chest.

"Your chest?"

"No, my heart." John frowned.

"What?" Roger furrowed his brows, growing slightly irritated by John's incomprehensible babble.

"Rosemary left." John whispered hoarsely to himself. "She left me to look for Freddie."

Roger sighed. "Oh, mate... I'm sorry."

John shrugged, eagerly wanting to shake it off. "It's alright..." He mumbled. "I'll just go the rest of the night stag, like you."

Roger nodded. "Yes, well... I'm just going to h-"

"Where are you going?" John whined as soon as Roger took a step away from him. Roger grimaced at the fact that John could be quite the clingy drunk.

As John stumbled towards him, he tripped on his own feet and collapsed into Roger. Roger groaned as he caught John, holding him up as he swung John's arm around his neck.

"Alright, buddy. Maybe it's time I took you to bed." Roger said, guiding him along the corridor.

John hiccuped as he giggled. "That's quite forward of you, but okay."

Roger chuckled. "Okay, let's go. Remember how comfortable Freddie's bed was last time?"

John frowned as he dawdled along with Roger into their apartment. "I can't sleep in Freddie's room, Maya's in there."

Roger furrowed his brows. "What?"

John hiccuped. "She ran past me frantically muttering on about how funny it would be to shag someone in Freddie's room."

Roger stifled a grin. "Oh?" He cleared his throat to mask a slight chuckle. "Well, why don't we put you in Maya's bed, then? Something tells me she won't be needing it tonight."

John scoffed as Roger opened the door to Maya's bedroom. "Glad that you guys decided not to do your dirty business on top of me this time."

Roger stumbled back into the door, eyes widening. "Y-You remember that?" Roger grimaced, guilt for John from that night resurfacing.

"Believe me, I'm not too pleased about remembering it either..." John hiccuped. "My mind won't let me remember how I got five bruises on my back that night but loves to remind me of your stiffy nearly poking into my belly button."

"I didn't— My—" Roger cleared his throat, adjusting himself to hold John more sturdily. He sighed defeatedly. "You never said anything." He  frowned slightly, wondering if anything would've been different sooner if John would've reminded Maya about what happened that night. He shrugged it off. It didn't matter. Everything was fine as they were now. She was there waiting for him in her, well, Freddie's bedroom.

John groaned. "Shhh Roggie. Sleepy time." John smiled calmly as he face planted himself on Maya's bed. Roger scoffed as not ten seconds had passed when John began to snore.

As soon as Roger remembered why he headed back to their apartment room, he bolted out of Maya's bedroom, hitting his shoulder against the door frame and cursing loudly. He paused for a brief moment to make sure he didn't wake up John, quickly gathered himself and continued.

He paused in front of Freddie's bedroom, combing back his hair with his fingers and exhaling into the palm of his hand to check his breath. After composing himself, he slowly turned the door knob.

Roger entered into the room which was shrouded in darkness apart from the bed that the moon had shone a spotlight over.

He walked in, eyes scanning across the room. Perhaps John was messing with him as Maya wasn't anywhere to be seen.

Roger was close to turning back until he heard the door close behind him. He stood still in his spot and smirked, listening as the sound of heels clicking against the floor grew nearer to him.

Roger felt as Maya's hands grazed slowly up his back and around his shoulders, turning him around. His eyes met with hers. He stepped backwards pulling her with him so he could see her in the light.

He raised an eyebrow to see a confident smile glazed across her face as she eyed him with determination. Roger trailed his eyes down. His coat that had been draped over her shoulders was now worn properly and buttoned top to bottom. He quirked his head questioningly.

Maya masked the shred of nervousness that she felt was beginning to seep through, with a mischievous smirk. She moved her hand from behind her back so that Roger could see.

Roger grinned wildly as he saw the dress she was wearing was now in her hand. Seeming to have the desired effect, Maya let the dress slip through her fingers and drop to the floor as she slowly approached Roger.

Maya cursed in her mind as her shaking hands were giving away her anxiousness. She hid them away by burying them in the coat pockets, masking this action as part of her seductive stride. She grimaced slightly, seeing that Roger could see her nervousness. Maya groaned slightly to herself when Roger's smile morphed into a weary expression.

Not wishing for Roger to doubt her determination, she pulled his face towards hers, tugging at his hair.

As their lips collided, Roger raised his eyebrows, taken aback once more by her control.

As Maya slightly opened her lips apart, Roger slid his tongue through the tight gap, lightly massaging against her tongue. As Maya let out a soft moan, Roger collapsed deeper into their kiss, pulling her hips in to lock in with his pelvis.

As Maya slithered her hands down his neck she pulled apart the top buttons of his shirt, revealing his bare chest and long silver necklaces that gleamed against the small streams of light.

Roger pulled apart from their kiss, effortlessly twirling Maya around, pressing her back against his front. Maya could feel him smirk against her hair as his arms wrapped around her and his hands fiddled with the buttons of the coat.

Roger sensed that visibly acknowledging her nervousness would've spoiled the mood for her, so he masked his attempt to ease her slowly by teasingly pulling apart the buttons.

Roger breathed heavily down her neck, bringing his lips down and sucking lightly under her jawline. His fingers fiddled seamlessly down the coat, unbuttoning them at an astonishingly quick pace, which would've taken Maya aback if she wasn't so enraptured by his lips fitting so well in the crook of her neck.

When all the buttons were undone, Roger opened her coat slightly. He couldn't see her bare body but as his fingers trailed upwards, the warmth of her flesh against his hands unleashed a feverish desperation. He briskly shedded the coat off her shoulders, breaking away his lips from her neck to look at her.

Maya twirled back around to face him. Before Roger could trail his eyes up and down, Maya pushed him. The back of Roger's legs hit against the side of the bed, causing him to stumble back and sit on the bed. Though his legs slightly hurt, he was thankful to be sitting down in front of her, smiling at the much better view as his eyes were align with her bare torso.

Maya, not anticipating the night to lead up to this, had hoped she had put on cuter underwear. Though she was pleased to see that Roger's mouth was agape by the sight of her white cotton ensemble accentuating her body.

"Fuck." was all Roger could say. He faintly whispered, not wanting to break the momentum. It was hard enough to keep their concentration with the music of the party still booming across the whole building.

Maya placed a hand on each of Roger's shoulders as she climbed over him. Sitting and positioning herself on top of his lap, her legs wrapping around him on either side.

Roger took his index finger, beginning to trail it up across her leg. The cold from the tip of his finger cued a shiver to run across her body. His finger trailed, moving up past her torso, and up around the curves of her breasts, weaving around the curvature around her collarbone. Maya gasped slightly as he continued grazing it upwards the centre of her neck and below her chin, beckoning her face to come close to his.

"C'mere..." He hummed lowly.

When Maya met her lips with his once more, he kissed her tenderly. Sucking at her bottom lip, and letting out a soft moan as Maya shifted her sitting position, grazing her weight against his lap. Roger felt Maya smile smugly into his lips.

Raising an eyebrow at her cockiness, he turned Maya around. He threw her down on the bed, while still positioning himself in between her legs. Maya squealed as her back collided with the mattress and Roger was now towering over her. He smirked as he leaned down towards her his necklaces hanging down, its cold steel tickling in between her cleavage.

Roger brought his lips down to her collarbone, planting a tender peck there. He planted another one down across her breast, before moving up towards her neck and biting at her skin. His palm clasped her thigh, securing it around his hip.

Maya let out a sharp gasp. "Oh, Rog—"

"How could you, Freddie?" A shrill caterwaul was heard from afar. The scream with the abrupt halt of the music outside ripped away Roger and Maya's embrace as they exchanged confused expressions. They continued to listen to the commotion outside, as Roger now awkwardly hovered over Maya's body.

"Rosie, darling, please don't scream." A concerned voice responded. "Please, let's all just sit down and talk."

"Oh so now you'd like to have a real conversation with me? Where was this civility for the entire month you ignored me before you broke things off?"

Maya sighed, bringing her hand to her face. "Oh, no..."
