Ace's POV
I wake up with a pounding headache as usual. I get out of bed and walk to my bathroom. I see myself in the mirror and shiver at the hideous reflection. My whole head and face has been bandaged since the accident. I hated seeing myself now, It wasn't me. I wasn't able to do things by my self, I couldn't go outside and I couldn't even go to work. I was stuck at home, rotting in my own corpse.
I hated having someone to take care of me. I felt low and weak not being able to do things by myself. I've always been independent since I was young. I built my self up from scratch and got away from my abusive parents.
Even though I hated having a nurse helping me, it was nice at times to have someone around.
I felt less lonely especially when not going out everyday. It was nice to have the company,
Alex was a bit sassy at times and I could tell that she didn't like me. But there was something about her that made me realize that life was worth living. She would make me see the world differently just by looking into her brown eyes that held a sparkle inside.
You can tell she cares about helping people and didn't just do it because it was her job.
I've gotten used to her being around, she doesn't care about the way I look or the way I am. It didn't bother her since it was her job but it also made me comfortable to have someone around me that wasn't scared of the way I looked and still saw me as a human instead of a beast.
Not even my ex fiancée was able to see me as the same person anymore.
This past week of having Alex around has been great, we've both gotten closer. Every night, we watch a movie together and end up falling asleep half way through. I also noticed that she try's to sit close to my door everyday around noon to hear me playing the violin. The violin was something that helped me escape and be who I was before. It brought a comfort to me.
My bruise started getting worse and worse, the pain was also increasing. Alex decided to call the doctor to come back and examine it again.
Dr. Ashley came by first thing this morning to check on the bruise
"Im afraid we will need to move to surgery Ace. This is looking very bad" the Doctor says
"And you know what that means" he adds on
"Fuck" I say, I didn't want to move to surgery. Surgery meant problems and problems meant backup plans
Dr. Ashley gives me a look and I knew that we needed to talk, in private. Alex was standing in the corner of the room looking confused as to why we were acting like this
He turns to Alex
"Alex dear, will you give us a minute? We need to discuss something in private" Dr. Ashley tells her
"Ya sure, if you need anything, I'll be right outside" She says and leaves the room
I sit up on the bed and face the doctor
"So what are we going to do?" I ask
"You need to contact them Ace. It's time, what if the surgery doesn't go well? You need someone to take care of the company when your away so you need to-" I cut him off feeling my blood boil at the thought of them
"No. I'm never going to call them Ashley. Don't even mention them" I say with gritted teeth
No matter what happens, I will never leave my company and everything I built for my parents who didn't even give a shit about me when I was younger. They didn't deserve anything, especially not my company
"If I hand everything to them and I die, they will sell or close down the company causing thousands of people with families to be jobless. I can't have that happening" I say
"Then what are you going to do?" He asks me
I needed to have a plan. What if things didn't go well? I needed someone who I could trust who would never sell the company and cause thousands of people to go jobless
After a a few minutes of thinking, he lets out a puff of air
He pulls out a prescription and scribbles something on a piece of paper
"Well let me tell Alex to add this to your medication" dr. Ashley starts to say before I cut him off
"That's it!" I say with a smile feeling like a light bulb had turned on in my brain
"What?" Ashley asks looking confused
"Alex. What if I married Alex?" I ask
"Are you out of your mind!? What if-" I don't let him continue
"Wait! Just think about it. It's better than leaving a will and testament under her name. Marrying her will guarantee that she will inherit all I have. She is the perfect person! She's too kind to do anything like close the company causing people to lose their jobs" I start to say
"She would have everything right here, a place to stay and money. What else would she ask for?" I tell him
He looks at me as if I had loosed my mind
"What if the surgery is successful? What will you do when you come back? Get a divorce?" He asks
I pause for a moment
"What if I don't come back....." I say with a smirk
This could be an amazing opportunity to escape from this life. To change things for the better
That's when he realizes I definitely had lost my mind
