Part 1
The cafeteria was buzzing a little more extreme this time. I took my seat on my table after waiting in a long line to get my lunch. The rumors were too much, shouldn't it have died down by now. Why is everyone still talking about her.
Her.
My thoughts lingered a tad bit longer at just her memory. How I had been awkward through out biology class today. You can't really blame me though, she was sitting right behind what do you expect. I felt all giddy and stuff. That's so unlike me.
Just as I was about to get a fifth bite of my mouth watering cheeseburger, she came in..... with her crew. Mainly Jerry and Jack, Clarke and Maive and the all famous Katherine.
' Just my luck'. I groaned.
" You look so distracted today, everything okay up there?" Ray asked tapping my head to emphasize his point.
" You have a Faraway look on your face and trust me it makes you look like some psychotic stoner." He added smiling.
" Dude , that's so rude you know." I said as I smacked his head.
" I'm just not feeling well today."
" Okay if you say so." he obliged.
Ryn was standing by the lunch line chatting animatedly with her friends without a care in the world. I loved her carefree attitude.
I felt so awful being disturbed by all the thoughts swirling in my head. I needed a break. Sighing in defeat I ran my hand through my hair in frustration. Something I often do when I'm disturbed.
' That's it. I'm calling it quits. ' I said to myself getting up and ditching my lunch and my best friend who looked utterly confused. Poor thing.
I was just about turning the corner to get to the cafeteria door when I bumped into someone loosing my balance in the process and almost getting a concussion before two arms held me in perfect position. What's with bumping into people today .
When I got steady I actually peeped at who saved me from embarrassing myself in front of the whole school. Grey orbs were watching me with concern before they suddenly turned cold with a look I couldn't quite decipher.
" Watch it nerdy boy" she said a bit harsh and I grimaced. I don't know where I got the courage from but next thing I know I was throwing profanities like a psychopath.
" You're freaking disgusting. You are the one who almost ran me over and here you are yelling at me. Dang it! Ooh I must have forgotten you are the so called Ryn that everyone is so afraid of. Well I am not. Just because you are a bad girl and stuff with tattoos and piercings, you think that makes you queen here, and that you can talk to people anyhow? That doesn't make you any more of a person that being polite. This is actually Alabama you know not Tennessee or some freaking military school. Just so you know, I honestly thought you were some drug dealer the first time I saw you. No disrespect woman but being nice wouldn't cost you a penny." I panted as I finished my ramble .
Everyone's attention was now on us and when I say us I mean me in particular. What had I gotten myself into. Of all things to say and of all people to actually say it to it had to be her.
Her.
' God I'm so dead right now. ' my thoughts were a jumbled mess. My face paled as I saw the look of rage in her eyes mixed with disappointment before her gaze turned unreadable and blocked.
Why would she be disappointed? People like her don't care about anybody else except themselves right? I closed my eyes in utter horror awaiting my death sentence but nothing came. When I opened them again she was smiling.
Leave it to her to just warm my heart after such a scene. I bet it's the bad girl façade '. I thought to myself. Her friends were dazed in shock as they looked back and forth between me and her. This is so confusing, nothing like I had imagined. Why isn't she mad me? Maybe ripping my throat open or something of the sort.
"What's your name?" She said taking me by surprise. For the love of cheese and chocolate in Switzerland, I just embarrassed her in front of the whole school or so I thought and that's all she's going to do? Ask for my name. This is insane. Nonetheless I still answered feeling the urge to.
" Nathan....I um ..huh Nathaniel Wellington Adams but you can call me Nate. Ray calls me Nate too and my mom and my dad and practically everyone you know and...." She cut off my blubbering with her voice as my cheeks were tinted pink.
" Nathaniel," my name rolled out pretty cute from her lips and I was staring at her in awe.
Her lips.
'There must be something wrong with me today. What in the world are you doing Nathaniel?' I scolded myself.
" I'd go with nerdy boy. It suits you better." She said before turning to leave but abruptly stopping and shouting over her shoulder .
" And by the way you look cute when you blush", she said as the whole cafeteria burst into laughter. I blushed even harder at her words. This is so embarrassing, how did the tables turn this quick.
I practically ran out of the cafeteria after the incident and faked sick so I could actually go home and sleep off my embarrassment. Ray called and texted but I didn't answer . I just wanted to be left alone and to myself for the best part of it.
