Alex's pov
I hear banging on my door, a burst of cool air hitting me. My heart breaks when I see Luke puffy eyed, tears running down his face. We make eye contact and I swear I felt my heart shatter into small little pieces. All to fast he goes unconscious, I quickly get down to him, trying to drag him into the house. After about 20 minutes I successfully get him on the couch. I walk to the kitchen grabbing a paper towel and wetting it a bit, going back to Luke and wiping his face slowly. I dispose of the napkin and make myself a cup of tea, sitting by the window watching the snow fall down, aluminized by the sun.
I look back over at Luke, the tip of his nose bright pink, and rosy cheeks. I know he's been avoiding me, giving me every excuse in the excuse book. Between "studio days" and "your mom might be there".
I sigh, why was he doing it? He cheated on me and feels bad? No he would give in and tell me. He's getting bored with me? No because with the few times he calls he sounds okay. Luke Hemmings is a mystery lately.
I look back out the window and the snow is falling, it reminds me of something.... what?
Car debris? Is that what it reminds me of? I think harder. I remember car debris and being cold, almost like I was dead.
What? I look over at Luke. He did something. Something, but what?
I shake it off. I'll ask him why he's been avoiding me when he wakes up. More importantly, why did he end up crying on my doorstep.
The warming my tea and the cold of the winter are just enough to make me fall asleep.
I wake up to Luke Screaming. Fall on the floor and scramble to his side. His forehead is sweaty and his eyes are scrunched together. He's having a nightmare.
"Luke! LUKE WAKE UP!" I yell shaking him awake. He gasps awake. When he finally realized where he is he calms down.
"Alex." I breathes out and wraps his arms around me. It takes me by surprise but when I come to my senses I arm my wrap around him.
I feel my shoulder getting wet. He's crying.
"Luke, what's the matter?" I say and look into his bloodshot red eyes.
He manages words out between every sob. "I. Just. Hate. Myself. So. Much."
I can hear my heart shatter. "No no no Luke, please don't say that. You're perfect." I say and cup his face in my hands. He places his hands on top of mine.
"Can I just," he sobs a little. "Be with You please? Not here, or where anyone else could be. I want to be alone with you, with nothing else."
I bite my lip. He gives me a puppy dog look and I nod. "Of course." He struggles to get up so I help him up. I help him out his jacket on and walk him to my truck. I strap him in and get in the drivers seat.
"Where to?" I ask, turning up the heat. He's calm down but still shaken up.
"Anywhere. But it would only be the two of us." He says and puts his hands in his pocket.
I nod and back out of the driveway. I know where to go. It's my old hiding spot where my dad used to take me, I can't remember why he stopped.
It takes about an hour to get there. Luke falls asleep to the radio playing and I drive on. The snow has fallen lighter and the stars in the sky make things look beautiful.
"Luke. Luke, wake up." I whisper shaking him. He wakes up and remembers where we are.
"Are we here?" He asks confused. I nod my head and he nods his. We get out and he gets a confused look on his face when he sees the little cottage.
"It's an old place my dad used to talk me to spend the night sometimes." I say and pull out a key from under the mat.
He comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist while I try to unlock the door.
"Thank you so much.." He mumbles into my shoulder. I bit my lip keeping the moan in.
"It's okay." I whisper and unlock the door. I turn on the light and go into the kitchen to turn on the heat.
"Do you want to talk?" I ask. Luke walks a little closer to me.
"No, not yet. I need to get my thoughts together. Can we go lay down together? I just want to hold you." He says. Luke seems off but I keep my mouth shut.
"Yes, Luke." I say and take his hand and intertwine it with mine. I lead him up the stairs and into the main bedroom that my dad would stay in.
I turn in the light and walk inside. Everything seems to be in place and not too dirty. Luke takes out his phone and puts it on the nightstand.
I take a glance at him. He doesn't speak and just starts stripping down into his boxers. I bit my lip. There's no clothes for me.
"Luke?" I say. He looks over at me.
"Yes?" He says. I bit my lips and feel my cheeks flushing.
"I think I'm going to have to sleep in my underwear." I say, making him couch a little.
"I'm okay with it as long as your okay with it." He says but I can tell he might get a boner.
I take my chances and face away from him. I take off my clothes and immediately feel the cold air around my body. I jump into bed and pull the covers around me. Luke does the same and I feel his long arms around my waist.
"I'm so sorry this was short notice." He says. I shake my head.
"It's okay. You look like you've had a rough night." I say and place my hand on his cheek.
"Can we stay silent? I just want to be here with you." He says and bites his lip. I nod.
We stay there lying in silence. Looking into each other's eyes. It's moments like this that are worth remembering. Yes it was all of sudden but this moment it's just both of us. Nobody or nothing else. Just the sound of our heart beats and our breathing.
I start to fall asleep. To the sound of our hearts.
"I'm never losing you again. Ever." Luke mumbles into my hair.
I fall asleep before I can think about it.
