BENJI: Good afternoon. The label is asking for a single to be out on Halloween, so we gotta get at least three songs in to see what they'd like.
AWSTEN: I haven't written anything good in a long while.
BENJI: Well that's not my fucking fault, is it?
AWSTEN: [rudely] I have nothing to write about.
BENJI: Stop acting sassy with me and get to fucking work. We need something because your picky ass likes to put music to lyrics and not the other way around.
PATTY: I have some stuff written. I mean, it might it not be as good as Awsten's, but I think it's good enough for the album.
AWSTEN: Yes, but we want meaning behind our words.
PATTY: Mine do have meaning. Better meaning than yours, anyway.
AWSTEN: I wrote about Geoff! Isn't that good?
PATTY: An album that's just love songs? How original.
BENJI: Stop fighting and start writing. Patty, you got any copies of your lyrics?
PATTY: Yeah.
BENJI: Come with me, read 'em out to me.
PATTY: Alright.
BENJI heads for the door.

They leave.

AWSTEN: He and she met the other day and they wanted to have a day together.

They stop talking for a while.
AWSTEN: You look pretty in that dress.

AWSTEN: He's mean today.

GEOFF: Is he having a bad day?
JUDI: Made Daddy angry with my nightmare. I was real loud.
AWSTEN: He got mad at you for something you can't even control?
She shakes her head.
JUDI: My fault. Being a brat.
AWSTEN: Still, fuck him.
She laughs.
GEOFF: I guess she did.
JUDI: I don't do nasties with daddy.
Both men look at each other and smile.
AWSTEN: And they're totally not dating.
GEOFF: There's plenty of platonic non-sexual DDLG relationships out there.
AWSTEN: But are they platonic? Probably not.
GEOFF: Whatever. Ima order our food.
AWSTEN: Okay.

BENJI and PATTY come back in with Chipotle bags in their hands.
JUDI: Daddy! [runs up and hugs PATTY]
PATTY: Hey. [hugs her back]

PATTY: Fuck off. [continues to give Judi attention.]
BENJI: Anyway. Patty does have some good stuff, definitely good enough to be on the album.
AWSTEN: Well if they're that good then I hope I can do them justice.
BENJI: That's another thing-- Patty's singing his songs, not you. So you can just, you know, uh... scramble up whatever you want. Just get it done before the album's out.
GEOFF: Is he doing a single?
BENJI: We plan on it, yes.
GEOFF: Okay.
BENJI: I'm sure this will be a nice change of pace.
AWSTEN: Maybe his song can be a radio hit.
BENJI: It's 2021, we need number one on iTunes again. The radios can suck my cock.
AWSTEN: Okay, then.

PATTY is recording the beginning of what will be their first single for the album. The band is listening in from the other side of the glass.
PATTY: It's hard to record with a single part!
BENJI: Keep going.
PATTY: I can't! I need percussion or something.
AWSTEN: He doesn't have a beat to go along with.
JUDI: I'm sure I can get something.
BENJI: No. He needs to get this recorded and if it's shit we can go back and make it match the music.
PATTY: It's not going to be my best if I don't know what the hell I'm doing.
BENJI: [sighs] Okay then. Get out and we'll see if she can get something close to what you want.
PATTY: Thank fuck.
PATTY steps out of the booth as the band goes to JUDI's drumset. She quickly creates something she thinks would match well with Patty's voice.
After she's finished.
JUDI: Was that good?
PATTY: Absolutely. [joins her] Do it again.
She does as asked.
PATTY: [pulls a chair up next to her] Explain it to me.
Everyone else takes note of Patty's "I'm done for today.". They decide to leave them alone.
BENJI: I didn't know they were a thing.
GEOFF: They aren't.
AWSTEN: They say they aren't.
BENJI: How are they not?
AWSTEN: Don't ask me.
BENJI: Aren't you getting married?
GEOFF: We wanted to next year after the album is released.
BENJI: You taking a honeymoon?
AWSTEN: Planned on it.
BENJI: You should. I recommend Alaska, but that might just be because of personal bias.
GEOFF: Was that where you went with your wife?
BENJI: Yep. I grew up there too.
GEOFF: Oh shit, cool.
BENJI: Yeah. I miss it. I miss being excited for the hottest day of summer. Nowadays the hottest day of summer is every day.
AWSTEN: Fuck climate change.
BENJI: Yes.
