the next day, violet was packed up and ready to head back to vancouver.

it almost seemed too easy, for it had been a good run with freedom and power in california.

but now that violet had more important things than a job going on, she had to settle down with what she had accomplished and hope that another good opportunity in her area would come its way in order to support her family.

she refused to let finns money be the only support system they had.

it was the late evening, the sound of drizzling rain patters outside as violet sits up against the headboard, tucked under the covers as her eyes glue to the screen of her phone.

finn lays beside her on top of the blankets, tossing a throw pillow to the air just to catch it again.
"what about delilah?"

"finn we dont even know if its a girl." she mutters, not peeling her attention off of her feed.

"landon."

"the babies a month old, it doesn't need a name yet."

he groans, throwing his arm over her legs dramatically,
"i just want to skip the pregnancy and have a baby with you."

"you and me both. you know i read online that giving birth is equivalent to the feeling of being disemboweled?"

finn lets off a laugh, sighing to get up to pull the cover back; getting comfortable next to violet as his head falls to her shoulder.
"something tells me that you'll be fine."

violet hesitates in the silence, afraid of hearing an answer that she internally dreaded.
"do you think we're thinking ahead for no reason?"

"what do you mean?"

"are we even sure that we're having this baby?"

he sighs something heavy. it wasnt a preposterous statement in his head, for he knew that a lot of things he loved in his life would be much different following after a baby. and he couldn't help but feel violet was not so into the idea of starting a family with him.
"what do you want to do?"

"i guess i-" she leans her head back with a sigh of her own,
"i guess i don't know."

"whats making you unsure?"

"you." she stares to him,
"i dont want to live every day with the idea that this whole situation was the reason why you had to give up everything that mattered to you-"

"youre what matters to me."

she stops, staring to the window in front of her with so much thought.
"please dont try to spare my feelings finn. if you're not ready, you have to tell me. because its not more important to me than your happiness."

"violet how many time do i have to say it, you are my happiness. we're ready." he takes her hand, staring at the gentleness the curling of her fingers held.
"but we should get you a doctors appointment before we tell my family. you know, just in case."

"in case the tests were wrong." she swallows harshly,
"i know."

"but dont worry about it for now." he kisses her forehead softly, laying down to his side of the bed.
"get some sleep vi, its an early morning for us."

when dawn struck the windows, violet was already awake; showered and dressed in a clean change of clothes.

she double checked the room that served her as a home for months. making sure that the only thing she came with, but left in the state, was her excitement.

silently, she walks out of the room. careful not to wake finn in his slumber. she approaches ayla in the kitchen, for she could always count on her being awake before anyone else.

"morning." violet stares to the time on the microwave, the heaviness of five in the morning weighing down on her shoulders.

"finn not up yet?"

she laughs,
"god no."

"we're out of here in a half an hour."

"i should wake him." she makes herself some tea, filling another with the left over warm coffee that ayla had brewed.
"we'll be out soon."

violet helps her way back to the room, setting her tea down as she sits upon his side of the bed. her fingers brush the hair off his forehead, watching as he peacefully stirs.

she watches as he lays still once more, believing that he had fallen back to a dream. however, his hand reaches up to take hers from his face. holding it warmly as he thumb brushes her skin.

"hey." she smiles to his closed eyes.

"good morning."

"i uh, i brought you coffee."

his eyes peak open, sitting up as he takes the hot cup from her hand.
"tables have turned, huh?"

"something like that." she holds onto him.

"thank you." he leans forward to her, kissing her lips gently.

"we need to be out of here soon."

"yeah," he gets out of bed,
"okay."

the two are stopped in action as violets phone rings on the bed. they both look at it, seeing mavericks name on the screen.

violet takes it, sliding to answer as she stands from the bed.

"hello?"

"violet, vogue got back to us about the shoot."

"we have the results already?"

violet looks to finn in a signal that she'd meet him at the car. for she leaves and that was the last he heard of the conversation.

finn could only hope it was good news, as he didnt have time to follow her out.

he didnt hear a word about it on the way to the airport, nor the plane ride in which she sat across the isle from him. finn assumed it was bad news for her, and he didnt want to stress her out more than she certainly was by talking about it.

gate a27 was violets one largest fear, and it was all she could stare at on her ticket the entire flight. all finn could do was shoot her a smile every now and then in hopes that it would settle her. but it never did.

for she knew that she would still have to go through the tunnels walkway, she would still have to walk through the doors that she once did. it was enough to make her dreadfully sick to her stomach.

refusing to eat or drink anything when the cart came by, refused to watch any of the list of movies given to her.

all she did was stare at the numbers and wonder how unlucky she could ever get.

it didn't make sense to her. it didn't want to make sense to her. she was on an international flight, and no matter how many gates there were; she was stuck with the only one she'd regret walking through.

it was the longest three hours of her life, and she could only hope that it would last longer.

the minute the plane stops at the gate, finn stands. refusing to leave her at any cost. there was so much he could have prevented if he hadn't switched seats with malcolm the first time. or if she would have taken the lonesome seat instead of him; it could have been him in that tunnel, which he would have taken any day. he refused to make it his fault again.

when she gets the opportunity to leave, she takes it. being sure that above all else, she was able to feel finns hand resting to her back as he walks behind her.

ayla was a nervous reck too, but kept it unnoticed as it would seem ridiculous considering it was violet who went through the worst of it.

truthfully violet would have felt more comfort if she would have known ayla was feeling the same way. for she felt dramatic and lonesome as her hands could hardly stop shaking enough to hold onto her luggage.

violet stares to her feet the entire way up the tunnel, doing anything but look around to see the flood of memories.

finn didnt say much, making sure ayla was on the other side of him as he kept a tight grip to violets hand. it was guilt that laced his gut as he watches the discomfort of her eyes glued to the ground; he knew she was never going to forget what had happened. he had so many other problems, and he wished it was one of them.

violet doesn't slow down until they make it to the baggage claim, far out of the way from where everything had happened less than a year prior.

finn lets go of her as he finds the rest of her luggage on the belt. he pulls it off, finally looking over to her unusually pale face.
"are you okay, vi?"

"i- i need to find the bathrooms."

she quickly leaves the two. finn and ayla look to each other in question, standing dead center to the low populated monday morning airport.

"i'll go check on her." she squeezes his shoulder,
"do you want to get a cab? we'll meet you out there."

he nods in a trance, worried for how pale she suddenly was. he tries to shake it off, taking all of violets things out the door of the airport to find a cab, as promised.

ayla walks in to the empty bathrooms to the sound of violet getting sick in a stall.

she sighs, gently barging her way in to violet squatted in front of the toilet. ayla gathers her hair, holding it back for her as her free hand gently rubs her back.

she doesnt say anything, only waits for violet to flush the toilet and regain her bearings.

"thanks." violet passes by her, trying to cool her face off with cold water in the sink. it would chalk up to the grossest things shes done; throw up in an airport bathroom.

"was it nerves?"

violet makes the mistake of hesitating.
"yeah, must have been."

she truly did believe that it was nerves, but she had traveled through the airport before hand while managing to keep her food down. it was a weak stomach blamed on her pregnancy, and she was grateful at how many other things it could be blamed on.

the blame game didnt last long.

"what is it?"

"what?" violet stutters, trying to pull herself together. avoiding her eye contact as ayla stares at her through the mirror.

"you hesitated."

"i was just agreeing with you." she forces a calm laugh.

"is it the flu?"

"no, i told you it was nerves."

"why did you all of the sudden get so sick once we were on the other end of the airport?"

violet finally looks beside her at the equally tall girl.
"why are you so worried about it?"

"if its the flu you have to go to the doctors when we get home, the norovirus is going around and its putting people out for weeks; and with your new job and everything-"

"ayla its not-" violet sighs a deep sigh, closing her eyes in the guilt of letting it slip.
"listen you cant say a word to anyone, understand?"

aylas eyes widen, staring to her in anticipation as she nods quickly.

"im, pregnant." violet watches as aylas mouth drops open in shock.
"so its no big deal, okay? i just have a weak stomach and was nervous is all."

"oh my god!" she hugs violet, practically jumping around as violet feels sick again being thrashed around. she keeps it down this time.
"youre kidding! please dont tell me youre kidding, are you really?"

violet nods, trying to peel herself away.

"finns going to be a dad!"

"jesus!" violet hushes her loud voice, echoing off the tiled bathroom.
"look you have to keep it a secret, okay? nobody knows yet."

"finn knows?"

violet nods, watching as a lady comes in. approaching an opened stall.

"i knew you guys were acting weird!" she whispers, proud of herself for catching on.
"when are you telling everyone else? jack is going to go nuts finally being the cool uncle he always jokes about."

"im scheduling an appointment for this friday, hopefully sometime after that."

ayla smiles so widely, hugging violet again; gently this time around.

"you can not tell finn i told you in an airport bathroom, got it?"
