"So where's Seth? How are you here right now?" I asked.
"Well Seth is still prisoner to Dante and I got away to find you. I was worried about you, but clearly you can take care of yourself."
I turned away from Nicholas to realize my friend was unconscious, well that took care of that problem.
"So why don't we talk on the way to go rescue Seth?" I asked walking towards him.
"Sure." He nodded.
"Where exactly did you come from?" I asked.
He turned and lead the way into an abandoned part of the town. We walked into a abandoned house that looked like one wrong step could make the whole building collapse. Nicholas continued to lead as we walked inside, dust carpeted the ground, and the wood of the house looked rotten. It's weird that the state wouldn't tear this place down, by the looks of it, no one has lived here in decades.
"He's right up stairs." Nicholas said stepping with caution up the stairs. I'm not sure if he was stepping with caution because of the old house, or the people in the house.
The second floor was really open, it was more of a loft than anything else. The only furniture in the loft was a chair with chains on it, but no one was there. The only evidence that Seth was ever here was his blood that stained the chair.
*Boom!
"Was that the front door?" Nicholas asked.
"It's a trap, we need to get out of here."
I made my way to the window and got ready to just when...
"Lipgloss, looking for this?" I turned at the sound of his voice.
Seth was in Jake's arms looking even more helpless than before. Dante stood next to them smirking. Jake pushed Seth forward and he stumbled into my arms. It was then that I got a better look at him. He had his left eye almost completely swollen shut, his cheeks were bruised, and he looked like he hadn't ate in weeks. It made my eyes tear up.
"Seth." I somehow managed to make out.
He just smiled at the sound of my voice.
"Hey, be honest, do I still look like the bad boy vampire I was when we first met?"
"You look even more like a bad boy vampire now." I said smiling. "Get Seth out of here and somewhere safe. I'll catch up with you guys later." I told Nicholas.
Nicholas looked at me with a worried expression, but left anyway. I knew the vampire would let them go, they only wanted me. I turned to the window and made sure they got away. As I turned back I ran into something or someone.
"You really need to watch where you're going." Hunter said.
"So what the vampire gang wasn't enough, so you had to bring in this?" I said to Dante while gesturing to Hunter.
"Um.. this guy is very important." Jake explained.
"Why? He can't fight, he's not a witch, but a vampire. Why do you need him?"
Jake walked over and grabbed the chair and sat it next to me. I ripped the chains off and sat down. Jake and Dante exchanged looks before Jake walked back up to me.
"When Mom and Dad left, they didn't go because of Dad's job, they left to find your real parents."
My real parents? I thought they were my real parents. Jake is lying there's no way I'm...I'm...
"Adopted. You're adopted." Jake said.
I took a moment to think about what my brother just said. No, it can't be true. I'm not adopted. I've lived with my family my whole life. It's not possible.
"No, it's not true." I told him.
"Think about it Marie, Mom and Dad left for Italy to-"
"For Dad's job. They left for Italy for his job."
"No, they left to find your real parents."
All at once everything fell into place, why my parents left, why Jake said it was my fault, why I didn't resemble any real quality from my parents, but why didn't they tell me? I'm adopted.
"You were never part of the family." Jake said.
The words he spoke made my heart shatter. I fell to the ground, tears pouring down my face. Then something my mom said came to my mind. 'Family isn't who you are blood related to, but who you love.'
"Mom and Dad loved me, it's not my fault you could never accept me." I spoke regaining strength as the tears slowed. "It's your fault I was never fully part of the family. You didn't even give me a chance. I feel sorry for you because you will never know what real love feels like."
Jakes expression changed from anger to hurt. Dante watched the whole thing go down and when the table turned to Jake, Dante had to do something to turn it back around. He whispered something to Jake that put an evil grin on his face.
"I have someone to introduce you to Marie." Jake said.
"No thanks, I'm done with all the family drama." I said moving towards the window.
I jumped out the window and landed feet first on the ground. To my surprise Rave was standing in front of me.
"Stay." he commanded.
I think now is as good time as any to let them know. I ignored Rave's command and ran towards the front of the house. There waiting for me was Jake, Dante, and Hunter.
"How?" Dante paused after opening his mouth to speak again.
"She didn't listen I commanded her and she ignored me she's...she's..."
"Immune." Hunter said intrigued. "Interesting..." He said studying me. "Is it possible she was pretending this whole time?"
"Why are you here?" I asked Hunter annoyed.
This guy is kind of getting in my way and I don't like him. Dante usually doesn't work with strangers. It's usually someone he knows or... or someone I'm connected to.
"Well Marie if you could have waited a moment longer, I could have told you that this is your brother." Jake said.
"WHAT?!"
There is no way I'm his sister, he's british and I'm definitely not british. Not that there's anything wrong with british, I'm just not. I am so confused. My brain can't handle all of these bombs.
"I don't believe you." I finally said.
"Why don't you look at your birth certificate and Hunter's." Jake said handing me the documents.
I examined the papers Hunter White and Marie Green not a match, but then I look at the parents. Coral White and Sam White. The parents matched. I'm Hunter's sister!
"Did you guys fake my birth certificate?"
"Why would I do that?" Jake responded.
Nobody spoke for a while. We all just stared at each other. Like being adopted isn't bad enough, but then I find out my brother is a vampire and working with Dante.
"Well as entertaining as this is we have to go. Grab Marie and let's get out of here." Dante said.
I am not going anywhere with them. I had to find Nicholas and Seth. I turned around to run, but apparently I'm predictable because Hunter stepped right into him.
"Wow, you just can't help yourself can you?" Hunter said turning me around and grabbing my shoulders.
Dante looked pleased as Hunter pushed me to Dante's car where I sat in between Rave and Hunter, while Dante and Jake sat up front. It was very squished in his black Ford Focus. We drove for awhile in silence until Hunter broke the silence.
"Take a left up here." He told Dante.
We drove out into the country again and after like 75 miles came to a house. Who would want to live all the way here with no civilization for like 50 miles? There was a white truck parked outside the two story house. The car stopped and I was relieved because I'll finally have some personal space. I slide out of the car and am immediately grabbed by Hunter.
"Welcome home." He whispered into my ear.
"This is not my home." I replied.
"Well you'll be staying here for a while."
I got pushed into the house with dark wood floors and white walls. The living room was to my left, stairs in front of me, kitchen was straight through the hall with the dining room. Hunter finally let me go of me and sat me in a chair in the dining room where other vampires were sitting.
"So what's the plan?" Hunter said sitting down next to me.
"Well we need to go get the witch, so Jake and I will leave in a couple of days while Rave and you watch Marie. Hopefully you two can keep her here." Dante answered.
"Not likely." I said under my breath.
Being the vampires they are they heard my remark and gave me a look of annoyance Stupid vampire super hearing.
"Maybe I should stay then." Jake said.
"No you will come with me as planned. If you two can't keep her under control stake her in the arm or somewhere else that will hurt, but not kill her." I shook my head as Dante spoke.
They continued talking about all the ways they could keep me here. I eventually stopped listening to the conversation and just sat there and thought. If Hunter's a vampire what happened to his or our parents? I wonder if I look more like my mom or my dad. Were they fighters like me?
"Marie?" A voice said trying to get my attention. "Marie?!"
I snapped out of my train of thought and looked at all the vampires starring at me.
"What?" I asked.
"What are you doing?" Hunter asked laughing.
"Thinking." I answered.
Apparently they were no longer satisfied with the conversation when I stopped reacting to what was said. It's nice to know that they only enjoy a conversation if I wasn't.
Dante and Jake went out hunting and brought by two deer from Hunter and Rave and a bunny for me. Dante didn't want me to have my full strength for when he leaves so he cuts down my blood supply. If he thinks the strongest vampire on earth could be weaken by less blood to the point of being able to be beat by normal vampires, he doesn't know anything.
"So according to my vampire friends there's a powerful witch living in New York." Dante said.
"What makes you think they'd do the spell for you?" I asked.
From what I have absorbed about witches they're mostly good and are worried about the greater good. I would understand if the witch came to take my power and destroy it, but to give it to dante would set the world in a path toward the end.
"Well he's not your usual witch and happens to be an old friend." Dante explained.
I guess not all witches are good. Dante has a friend? That's hard to believe, who would want to have a friend as evil as Dante? I guess you would have to be just as evil if not more evil. A powerful being like a witch, that's not terrifying at all.
"Yup you'll be as weak as poor Seth soon enough and I will be invincible."
"If you're getting my strength, and I'm not invincible, what makes you think you'll be?"
"I actually know how to fight."
"Um... how many times have I beat you in a fight?"
"Only because I let you."
"What about the first time you saw me as a vampire, why would you let me beat you?"
He remained quiet.
"That's what I thought." I told him.
The rest of the day was pretty dull I continued to not pay attention to their conversations that held no interest to me. I just thought about where my parents are and why they gave me away in the first place? Finally night came and I slept on a comfy grey couch in the living that my body barely fit on.
I lay on the wet floor of the wilderness, my wrist cut, and refusing to heal. Why did my vampire powers not heal my wound? I got up and ran as fast as I could, but I ran as slow as a child who has mortality. I then tried to smell any near, but my senses are dull. Could it be?!
"Lipgloss!" someone shouted. "Lipgloss!!"
I opened my eyes to see Dante and Hunter standing over me. I glanced out the window, but no light is visible. I looked at the clock hanging on the opposite side of the room, 4 a.m.
"Why must you always wake me at such harsh hours?" I asked Dante.
"You look terrified when you sleep." Hunter observed.
"It's because of her Sight." Rave said walking into the living room.
Dante flinched at the word. "Does she possess that power?" he asked worriedly.
Rave nodded.
"What did you see?" Dante asked.
I wasn't sure exactly, but my subconscious is worried that's for sure. I glanced down at my hands, realizing I was trembling.
"WHAT DID YOU SEE?" Dante repeated.
"I don't know exactly." I finally said.
I mean I know what was happening, but there's no way it could happen. Dante wouldn't do that. I'm not sure it's even possible. Could a vampire be turned back into a human? No it can't be. I tried to calm my body down, but I continued to shake like a chihuahua. I can't even begin to think about being human, I was so weak then. Not to mention the fact that Dante would have my strength making him 100 times stronger than me. This is not helping me calm down. I got off the couch and went straight out the front door. I need to clear my head.
"What are you doing?" Hunter asked following me out of the house.
"I need to clear my head."
"What is so terrifying it's making you freak out like this?" he asked.
"The future." I answered. " I can't let it happen, I have to change it." I said starting to walk into the woods.
"Where are you going?" He asked following.
"I need to think, so I'm going on a walk."
"Dante won't let you go alone."
"So come with me." I told him.
I walked with Hunter for three hours before he insisted we go back before Dante loses his mind. We walked into the house and Dante screamed at us. He talked about how he was worried I beat Hunter silly then made my escape. He clearly wasn't that worried because he didn't go out looking for me. I just sat at the table in silence as the others talked and Dante and Jake packed for the trip tomorrow. I've been thinking a lot about how I'm suppose to change the future, but I can't come up with anything that wouldn't be predictable.
