Author Note: You've probably noticed that the formatting of Like a Ray in My Night (and my other stories ...) has been off for a while now. I have no idea what the problem is. If I preformat the chapters to have spaces between paragraphs, then Wattpad will delete spaces between words instead. I figured that the former is less problematic for reading so I'll keep it like this. Unless you'd prefer the other version?

------------

Yun Bei Fen didn't notice at all. He was completely absorbed in watching ... the landscape. Certainly, he was watching the landscape. He might have peeked at his senior martial brother Mei a few times but he certainly hadn't been observing him the whole time.
"Do you like it?" Mei Chao Bing smiled gently and caressed Yun Bei Fen's cheek.
His little bunny nodded eagerly in response.
Of course, he liked it! He should definitely go and apologize to his Master later on for cursing him earlier. Now he finally understood. His Master hadn't heartlessly thrown him away. He had actually done him a favor! Now, he could spend the whole day with his senior martial brother Mei!
Yun Bei Fen's eyes curved in a happy smile and he unknowingly snuggled up closer against Mei Chao Bing's chest.
His idol hummed in response. "Seems like you do like it." He patted Yun Bei Fen's back and looked ahead. Ah, it seemed the border region wasn't far anymore. Leaving Yang Wu Huang behind had been a must but now their journey together would come to an end soon. And even if they were in the same group for the patrols in the border region, they wouldn't be alone. No, this right now was a type of opportunity that wouldn't come so soon again. He had to do his best to prolong it for as long as possible.
Mei Chao Bing's gaze touched upon the forest below them and a mischievous smile tugged at the corners of his lips. Mn, that might work ...
He slowed down, prompting Yun Bei Fen to look up at him.
"Did something happen?"
Mei Chao Bing shook his head and used the opportunity to brush through Yun Bei Fen's hair with his fingers. "It's nothing. We've just been traveling for a rather long time and that at a fast speed. My spiritual energy is almost depleted."
"Oh." Yun Bei Fen looked around as if he could find a possibility to help his senior martial brother. He only came up with one possibility though. "How about I send you some of my spiritual energy?" He eagerly looked up as if he couldn't wait to help his senior martial brother once.
Mei Chao Bing took a deep breath. Ah, this was quite tempting. He had to reject the kind offer though. "How could I accept that? We're not that far from the border region anymore. If we happened upon a demonic cultivator, junior martial brother Yun would need every bit of spiritual energy he has to fight or escape. I can't endanger you this much."
"But ... isn't senior martial brother Mei there to protect me?" Yun Bei Fen lowered his head and blushed again. Ah, was he expecting too much maybe?
Mei Chao Bing didn't think so at all. In fact, he felt quite flattered. When had someone relied on him this much? He couldn't remember even a single time.
"Yun Bei Fen."
"Mn?"
Mei Chao Bing cupped his cheek with one hand and leaned down. "I apologize."
"What fo—"
Mei Chao Bing's lips stopped the question halfway.
Yun Bei Fen froze. What was happening here? Why was his senior martial brother Mei ... kissing him? Eh? Why did this seem so familiar?
Mei Chao Bing's brows twitched. What was with this lack of reaction? He had understood it the last time when his little bunny was still younger. But by now shouldn't he have come of age? And even if he hadn't, shouldn't he do so soon? Why was he still not reacting? Was he actually shy to the extent that he wouldn't feel bold enough to reciprocate a kiss that was initiated by the other person? Mn, maybe he needed to be more direct with what he wanted?
Mei Chao Bing's grip around Yun Bei Fen's waist tightened while his other hand slipped into his hair. He sighed and whispered his name again. "Yun Bei Fen ... Fen'er." Without waiting for a reaction, he deepened the kiss.
Yun Bei Fen was pulled out of his daze. Ah! His senior martial brother was kissing him! Even if this was some kind of ... accident or if he regretted it later on, there was nothing that could rob him of this precious moment! He shouldn't just stand there and be shocked until it was over!
With his heart beating wildly and a slightly guilty conscience, Yun Bei Fen's hands slid up Mei Chao Bing's chest, feeling the smooth fabric of the robe and the strong muscles below. Mn, how nice!
Yun Bei Fen pressed himself up against Mei Chao Bing all on his own and eagerly kissed him back.
Mei Chao Bing's brows rose. Who would have known the small rabbit could be this ... outgoing? Naturally, he didn't mind it. Quite the contrary, he felt like he should encourage this kind of behavior. That way, his little bunny would know not to be too timid with him in the future.
His fingers clasped Yun Bei Fen's hair tighter and he forced his mouth open, slipping his tongue inside. Yun Bei Fen made a surprised sound but hurriedly shut up again and all that accompanied them were the sound of the wind and that of their tongues entwining.
Mei Chao Bing gently caressed Yun Bei Fen's back. He didn't want him to misunderstand that this was just lust. No, it wasn't. Back then, he might not have been too sure of his feelings but after having to long for Yun Bei Fen all these years he was sure that this was more. He loved him. He certainly did.
As if to belie his intentions, Yun Bei Fen wriggled closer to encircle his neck and inadvertently rubbed a rather sensitive spot.
This time it was Mei Chao Bing who froze. Unfortunately, it was his spiritual energy that held the flying sword with both of them in the air.
They looked at each other before Yun Bei Fen clung to Mei Chao Bing with a scream, his arms around his neck and his legs ...
The bit of spiritual energy Mei Chao Bing had just tried to use to stabilize them in the air dissipated again and they continued to tumble down to the ground.
