Colin —Mr. Burns — his name could be Reese for all I care I was taking him down, I don't want or need a partner on this case I was perfectly fine before he came along...now I have to work with him on my case just so he can likely take all the credit, not that he seems like the type but you never know...
I tell you one thing though he sure can fill out a shirt, his arms look amazing —
I need to focus this is the kind of distraction I don't need, I'm trying to take him down but I'm checking him out that's not going to work out too well, couldn't he have just been a tab bit ugly and have less of a body, no of course not, why would I think this would be easy, of course it wouldn't.
As I am in my office he comes in without even knocking closes the door behind him and sits in one of the chairs I have in front of my desk.
"So looks like we're going to be partners...and I don't want what happened at the elevator to get in the way of working together."
"Yeah, absolutely....I was going to say the exact same thing...I think that we should put all of our focus towards this case and do our best work...considering that you and my job now depends on this."
"I absolutely agree Alice, so what time should I come over to your place?"
"Excuse me! — ?"
"To work on the case....?"
"Why can't we go to your place?"
"Is there a reason we can't go to yours?"
"No — but —."
"Good!...so what time?"
"Eight o'clock."
"Great....so I'll see you then — partner."
"Okay — can you leave my office now."
"Sure."
"Okay, Great."
As I said that he got up and looked at me for a moment or two and then walked to open the door and leave.
I watched him walk to his office, he was a sight for sore eyes but I couldn't let on to that fact and I definitely didn't want him to know, he's far too arrogant and egotistical, no — I had to pretend as if him nor his body affected me, which wasn't true he did...and I just couldn't allow that to happen he was definitely trouble and not the kind I need or want, I'm pregnant with another mans child, a love child but a child nevertheless so I had to think clearly...no clouds of uncertainty, just a clear path of what I needed to do, of what needed to be done...should I tell Colin though?...
I mean him and I we're only partners, but that would be the right thing? — right?
I was thinking so much Logan was in front of me calling my name...
"Alice? — you okay?"
"Yes, what is it Logan?"
"Someone wants to see you, I told them you were busy but he said that it's important..."
"Who is it?....and he?"
"Yes, his name is Alex....?"
"Say that I'm in a meeting."
"You sure, he seems very persistent —."
"Yes I'm sure, just tell him I'm in a meeting okay?..."
"Okay, got it."
And with that he left only to come back like 2 minutes later and tell me that Alex was refusing to leave until he'd spoken to me and I didn't want to call security that would only escalate matters...so I went down to the lobby and once I saw him I immediately took him next to the restrooms so that no one could hear our conversation.
"What are you doing here Alex, what do you want?"
"I want you back, I want us to raise this baby together I didn't mean those things I said. At the moment I was shocked and scared and just an asshole, but I'm sorry — can you please give this another chance — us another chance."
"No Alex, I can't...you hurt me, it's done — we're done, if it's not about our child I don't want to talk to you, I have to go back to work — goodbye."
And with that I walked off and went back to my office there was no way I was going to get back with Alex after he said those things and he hurt me I know everyone says love can conquer anything but some things that are broken can never be fixed or put back together and work the same way it once did.
I wanted to just forget everything he had said and run back into his arms but I couldn't I had to
keep staying strong and move on, I'm sure he will — eventually...so I need to do the same.
"Hey is everything okay Alice?"
"Yes I'm okay Logan, thank you for asking."
"No problem...I have a reservation for you, for tomorrow at Sasha's for seven o'clock and at nine thirty you are meeting with your friends at Dean's Bar & Grill."
"Okay, thanks."
"I'll remind you again tomorrow so you don't forget."
"Okay great."
"Do you need anything else before I go back to my desk?"
"No thank you, I'm fine, thank you once again Logan — for everything."
"No problem."
He leaves and closes the door and I'm left with my thoughts. I have two more hours until I can go home and cook, then prepare for Colin to come over, I have to give him my address first — lucky me.
I walk into his office without knocking just like he did mine and closed the door behind me except I stood up next to his desk.
"You know, generally when people make a plan to go to someone else's house the person that suggested it asks for the address — just thought you may need it if you want to work on the case."
"I actually already know where you live your Assistant has already sent me the address and your phone number in case of emergencies about or on the case."
Well that's just great — Logan you're a lifesaver sometimes but sometimes I want to just take your life...I honestly wish Logan hadn't give this idiotic excuse for a person my phone number...
"Well that's just fantastic —."
"Sarcasm, is that a coping mechanism or just a way of life for you?"
"No it isn't either, it's just something I use to make a broad point, don't worry you will get to know that part of me if nothing else."
"That's all you want me to get to know?"
He said with a smirk.
"Goodbye, Colin."
"See you later Ms. Goodman."
With that I scoffed, opened the door and walked out of his office. He's so — so — ugh! Out of all the men on this universe he had to end up my partner for this project...man the man above has a funny sense of humor.
Logan and I left work at 7:15 and he dropped me off home at 7:25...so I had to take a long shower which landed me at 7:50 when I was finished I looked in my closet for an outfit to wear, I couldn't decide because I had a lot of clothes....like a lot!....so I decided to go with my Ralph Lauren Jeans and a Versace shirt and my slippers that Christina got me, I walked back in my bathroom and put my hair in a messy/cute bun kind of took a few hairs at the sides and back I put on lip gloss....all of this for a guy who probably doesn't even think I'm worth an extra look...once I finished and checked myself one more time that's when I heard a knock on the door, I went to answer it and there he stood with his broad shoulders and crooked smile that never really quite touches his cheeks and that quirky eyebrow thing he does when he's thinking...not that I have been paying attention — because I haven't.
I could care less about him — he means nothing to me — absolutely nothing.
"So shall we get started — Alice?"
"Yes we shall — Colin."
