Epilogue: Flower Girl.
I smoothed my dress, breathing out heavily, looking in the mirror. Two curls hung around my face, the rest of my hair braided into a perfect bun on the side of my head. The coffee coloured dress hugged my chest and ribs, before flowing over my legs, brushing the floor. Weddings made me stressed out. I could hear the wind softly beating the sides of the tent. I heard a loud scream, and saw Anna sprinting towards me, her tights curls bounced, her small puffy dress blowing around her. She jumped, grabbing onto my leg, nearly making me fall, as I saw Jaime round the corner. His tie slightly askew.
"Awe, c'mon. You can't use your mom as a shield. I know Casey would murder me for touching one of her perfectly done bridesmaids. Especially the Maid of Honour." Jaime whined, slumping towards us, as Anna giggling uncontrollably, hiding behind my flowing skirt. I grinned down at her, placing my hand in her small Afro.
"She's a smart cookie." I cooed down at her. Jaime adjusted his waistcoat. He gave me a huge dimpled smile.
"Well, don't you look magnificent." I gave myself a once over in the mirror, a tiny blush crept in my cheeks.
"You are looking quite dapper yourself." I commented. He winked.
"I know." Anna grabbed my hand, swinging it.
"C'mon, Cassabear was asking for you. I was coming to get you when Uncle Hime chased me." She scowled up at him. He held up his hands in surrender. I laughed a little at them. This is why I loved having the boys around, because they brought a little more childishness to everything.
"Better not keep Bridesilla waiting." I looked hurriedly at Jaime.
"Don't tell her I said that." Jaime laughed, offering his arm to me. I slipped my hand through the loop, resting my hand in the crook f his elbow. Anna skipped over the other side of him, copying me and him.
"I can't, cause I agree entirely."
Jaime eventually had to return to be seated, giving me and Anna a kiss on the hand. Before giving me a wink, telling me when Vic sees me, the dress won't last long. That earned him a backhand to his head. I took Anna to the huge bridal party tent. When I pulled it back, Casey stood, practically hyperventilating as everyone fussed over her. Nobody seemed to notice as they continue hassling her. Telling Anna to go stay with grandma, I pushed through the tiny crowd. I cleared my throat, earning everyone's attention.
"I need to borrow the beautiful bride." I announced, grasping the freaking Casey's hand.
"But her hair.."
"Her hair can wait for five minutes." I cut off Casey's younger sister Lucy.
"Maid of Honour business." I made an excuse, before managing to tug her out the ten flaps, walking her a little further in the extravagant gardens.
"You are very welcomed to scream now." I offered, as Casey stared at me wide eyed. She grabbed both of my arms in a tight grip, before breathing heavily an fast, slowly piecing herself together.
"They're all stressing me out, they're making this ten times more difficult." She hissed through her teeth. This is why I had mostly gotten ready in a different tent, knowing my best friend is easily stressed by everyone else worries. I pulled her into a hug, the silkiness of her bodice slid under my fingers.
"Just breath for a bit." She held me back softly, I heard a small sniffle as she cried. I felt my lips twitch.
"Don't ruin your makeup too much, Teresa will have a field day." That earned a laugh from Casey. She pulls back, running her finger tips delicately under her perfectly made eyes. She looked absolutely breathtaking. The tight bodice shaped her hips perfectly, before splaying out from her hips, in a small train. The loose skirt tied on her hips with a beautiful diamond swirl. Her hair braided similar to mine, but her bun was at the back, and both side of her hair had small blue flowers weaved into it. A veil say snugly in the front of the bun, trailing down her back.
"I'm freaking out. I feel like everything's gonna go wrong. And since I'm freaking out, I worry. That causes worry lines, then I'll have so many worry lines I look like a troll, and Ryan will do a runner." She wailed, throwing her arms in the air. I tried to stay serious in her hysterics. I was gonna give her so much crap at the reception. I reached out, placing a hand on her cheek.
"Casey, you could dress up in the ugliest poo brown lumpy dress, and you would still look like a catwalk model. My brother doesn't deserve someone like you." That caught her attention and she shook her head. I saw a smile start to curve back on her lips, she looked at her French nails.
"No. I don't deserve him. He's so sweet and kind and nobody has loved me as much a he has." She looked up at me, her bridal shine started to sneak onto her features.
"How am I marrying a perfect man?" I couldn't help but laugh.
"He's anything but perfect. I can't imagine him marrying anybody else." Her smile had fully returned now, all her earlier worried leaving. I knew, I needed her to see this from every good side. She grinned at me, grasping my hands.
"Cat, I am getting married. I'm getting married." She repeated, excitement radiating off her.
"Well, you won't be if we don't make our way to the pavilion." Her business face came back on. She brushed her hand on her dress before looking at me.
"Make up?"
"Perfect." She wrapped her arm around mine.
"Let's go get hitched."
I could heard the violins as I was handed a bouquet. I grabbed the basket full of rose petals, leaning down to Anna. I placed the basket in her hands, before adjusting her big blue bow.
"You are probably the prettiest flower girl I've ever seen." I tapped my finger on the end of her nose, earning her twinkling giggle.
"You look pretty too Mama." I gave her a warm smile, kissing her forehead. I stood up straight, looking at a very pale faced Casey. Her dad walked up, brushing the tiniest strand of hair from his daughters face. She looked up at him, an her whole posture relaxed. I saw him get teary eyed, and mouth, 'you look beautiful', to her. She looked like she was going to cry. She hugged him tight as I watched with an envious, but overjoyed, smile. There was a pang in my heart, because I wasn't going to be able to do that on my own wedding. But I knew my dad would still be there with me. Anna tugged on my dress.
"Will daddy do that with me?" My heart warmed. I twirled a ringlet through my fingers.
"He wouldn't want to miss it for the world." I heard the bridal walk begin to play, and I clapped, announcing everyone to get into their lines. Anna went first, after Casey's small cousin, who was the ring bearer. It was a hard decision, since he had a habit of loosing things. Then Teresa, Lucy and me. Last was obviously Casey, with her dad by her side. I stood in front of Casey, watching my daughter walk away from me, tossing her rose petals. Before I know it, I was softly marching along with the music. I walked through the lovely metal arch, twined with flowers, into an area with just under 100 people sat, staring. And that's when I saw him. He was frowning down at something on his pant leg, not paying attention. I bit back a laugh. He looked incredibly sexy in a tux. His eyes darted up, and rested on me. The look on his face made me nearly melt on the spot. Just for a minute, there was nobody around. It was just him, staring right back at me. His long chestnut hair curled under his chin, his brown eyes wide as his copper skin stood out compared to his white dress shirt. I now understood what brides meant when they say, 'I see him, and everything feels right', because right now, I could picture this being my own wedding. I had to resist pushing past everyone, and jumping into his arms. Vic's grin was wider then anybody's in the room, as I took my place beside the other bridesmaid. I winked at him, as he held in a small chuckle. I looked up at my brother, but he wasn't looking at me, he was watching his bride walk down the small aisle towards him. I knew that's exactly how Vic looked as he stared at me, I glance at Casey, who couldn't take her eyes of Ryan in return. The love in the room seemed to spread to each and every person. The unhappiest man of all time wouldn't even be able to frown. Everything was just perfect and right in this world. This is why I loved weddings. Vic caught my eye again, and silently mouthed something. It didn't take me long to realise he said.
"One day."
&&~&&
"Well, hello beautiful." I felt his breath tickled the back of my neck. A smile spread across my lips as I slowly turned, meeting familiar brown eyes. Vic rested his hands on my hips. His eyes scanned up and down my body, and he gentle bit his lip.
"Good thing Anna is staying at your moms tonight." He growled, softly pulling me to him. I giggled, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"Sorry babe, change of plans. She is coming home with us." He groaned in annoyance. I gave him a sympathetic pouted, before brushing my hand on his cheek.
"I'm sure we can be quiet." Vic smirked, tapping his fingertips on my hips.
"I don't know if that's possible." He grabbed my waist tighter, before swinging me down, and kissing me. I laughed against his lips.
"Daddy!" He pulled me up, letting me go. He crouched down, opening his arms as our daughter collided with his chest. He scooped her up with eased, cuddling her close. He planted kisses all over her face, and she squealed loudly, wriggling in his arms.
"Look at you. You look just like a princess. But your mother is obviously the queen." He winked as Anna giggle. She squished his face between her tiny hands.
"And you're her king!" She exclaimed happily. Vic chortled.
"I sure hope so, cause if not I don't know why I'm here." He rubbed his nose against her, causing a squeak of delight to leave her mouth. She started tugging on his tie.
"Come dance with me." She whined. He ponded it, but I already knew he was going to agree. He set Anna down, grasping her hand in his.
"Well, lead the way." He gestured to where everyone was dancing ad chatting, most holding champagne glasses. She grabbed my hand.
"C'mon, you too Mama." I laughed and let her drag me and Vic along. She pulled us just about to the centre of the dance floor, a few people glancing our way and smiling. Vic spun Anna around his finger as she screamed with laughter. He pulled her to him, telling her to step on his toes. She obliged and he started to waltz her around, her eyes wide with wonder and happiness. I felt somebody's arms wrap around me from behind. I looked up to find my brother grinning down at me. I gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Y'know, you're gonna have to clean up after yourself. Casey will definitely not let you get away with it." I could only just hear his laugh over the music.
"My gorgeous wife would probably chop my balls off in my sleep." His face glowed every time he mentioned his wife. I was about to ask him something else before a loud gasp came from our left. Aunty Betsy grabbed his arm, ripping him away from me. He started at me in terror.
"Help." He managed to yelp before she tugged him away. I cackled, and waved at him as he scowled. I felt my own hand being tugged on, to find my daughter glancing up at me. Her huge brown eyes sparkled in the soft light of the hanging lanterns. I reached down, bringing her into chest. I started to sway with her as a soft song starte to play. I felt Vic's arms snaked around me, squeezing Anna between us. Anna gave Vic a kiss on the cheek, and rested her forehead in my neck. I looked at Vic, as he stared straight back at me. His eyes held every answer to any questions in my head. He was my key to unlocking everything in my world. There is a part of me that tells me, that this is my happily ever after, but being in reality I know there is no such thing. I know that is wasn't going to be a fairytale from now on. We're going to have to work hard, and I was prepared to do that for him, for Anna and even for myself. I always thought it was strange how people forgive so easily. I have yelled at multiple book character for letting that guy back into their life's, even after they did horrible things, simply because they love them. I understand now, why forgiveness is so relevant to life. If we didn't have the will to forgive someone, how do you have a will to forget. Forgiving somebody doesn't mean everything is going to go back to normal, sometimes it's as simple as giving yourself closure. Sometime that closure is you forgiving so its easier to forget. That closure could also bring you to the brightest thing in your life.
I know, if I didn't forgive Vic, I wouldn't forgive myself. He was simply being human. When something scares you, your immediate instinct is to run. Vic had his life planned out, a child through that off balance, and he started to lose his path, so he got scared and he hid from the idea, leaving me in the dark. Everyone eventually grows up, and when he was ready, he switched the light back on, and welcomed me and Anna with open arms. Second chances are one of the most beautiful gifts you can grant someone. Mine lead to Vic. Mine lead to creating a whole new family. Now here I was, my daughter cradled in my arms, the love of my life, staring at me a if I was the most beautiful creature on earth, and all my family and friends surrounded me. I leant forward, so did Vic, until we swayed side to side, our foreheads pressed together. Anna made a happy noise, making me smile.
"I love you." I breathed to Vic. He closed his eyes, as if savouring the words.
"To the moon and back?" Anna cut in, causing me and Vic to crack up laughing. I looked into Vic's eyes, getting forever lost in the brown rivers.
"Even further."
The End.
