KIMBERLY YATES was excited to go to school for the first time
she took a shower got dressed & prepared for the day ahead all with a smile on her face
she went down the stairs with a pep in her step while her mother was sitting on the table sipping coffee while on her phone in the kitchen
"eggs on the stove," her mother says while staring at her phone; having not yet to look at her daughter
kim squealed "yay, breakfast!" she ran over to her mother to slap a big fat kiss on her mother's cheek before squeezing her mother tightly "thank you mommy for doing that for me; i know you've sacrificed everything!" kim let go of her mom before running over to the fridge for juice
her mother, noel, put her phone and coffee down before turning in her chair to look at kimberly as if she was on drugs
"are you high?" noel asked calmly, weirded out by her daughter's sudden sunniness
kim shook her head, chewing on eggs. "na uh, drugs. bad." she said, mouth full before swallowing
noel shook her head at kimberly's antics before getting up from the chair "lord have mercy," noel mumbles to herself before grabbing her coffee, phone and then her keys "hurry up i'm off today so i'm taking you to school."
kim opened the car door and shut it behind her all while slinging her backpack on her shoulders "bye mom!" the black teenager exclaims before hurrying towards the school building
"'sum wrong with that kid..." kimberly's mother mumbles before driving off
kim went straight towards her locker and entered the combination before opening it, swapping the books in her bag for first and second period
when she was done, she shut the door before smiling at the boy who suddenly appeared behind it, leaning against the locker next to her.
"nice to know that the smell of decaying teenage spirit has not left eastview;" leo jokes
kim felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders when she saw that the soon-to-be-human-again boy she had a crush on could roam in a space outside of her bedroom — she finally had someone she could enjoy talking to
"did you check the whole place out? is that why you weren't at home this morning?" kim asked lowly, her brown eyes sparked with interest
leo nods ashamed, putting his head down slightly as his hair fell to hide his face "yeah, but that's weird though isn't it? first place i go to in 22 years is a high school," leo pauses biting as lip as he looked around at everyone in the hallway talking or walking by "it took a while to digest it all too; this place changed"
kim gazed at leo while he watched the whole place as if everything was in slow motion; nostalgia looked beautiful in such gorgeous eyes.
kim, in effort to see a smile rise on leo's face, smirked at the boy when an idea popped into her head
"wanna have fun with the change then?"
leo broke out of his haze before looking over at kim in curiosity.
"hello student body of eastview high, bring and report items to the office if seen: hallie michaelson's iphone 7, derek timbletack's blue jansport backpack, 5 of k'iyah gibbler's bobbi boss braids packs, justice williams's bag of wendy's, oliver jean-baptiste's yellow bike and rina berry's will to live. that is all for now, thank you."
leo howled in excitement as he watched kim play subway surfers on hallie michaelson's iphone 7 "this technology is wicked!"
kim shrugs as the two sat alone outside during the lunch period "some scientists could argue that it's attention-consuming, but you're a ghost so i think you're an exception" kim shuts the phone off to turn to him "still shocked that this hallie person doesn't have a password to her phone"
kim starts eating justice williams's wendy's food "i like this; having you be able to roam. i finally have a friend to steal things with. bonus cause you can't be seen by anyone else but me." leo looks at kim endearingly as she unknowingly had the sun placed on her then, she looked absolutely perfect while she swatted bees away from her and her food
"where do ya wanna go when school's over?" he asks gently
soccer practice for the female eastview hurricanes was always an enjoyable, yet often dramatic time
coach hudson was burning holes into their skin while the team was doing their drills, yelling when he would see the tiniest flaw as he paced himself slowly around them watching intently on the field outside
after the practice drills were over, coach hudson discussed over a new play with the team before wanting to see how it would execute in the real match — so he inflicted a practice play
kim, leyla, opal, ruth, harryelle and grace were chosen to represent eastview
while
georgia, mackenzie, lily, elena, nessa and sarah represented the next school they were to go up against next, ponce de leon high.
"aye, good luck champion" leo whispers in kim's ear; causing the teenager to subtly blush as she got in her position as the forward
kim mutters a thank you before coach hudson blew the whistle, kim took off speeding towards the other side
and of course, georgia paid all her time and energy on her as the defense
it started off light before eastview scored two points, kim being the cause for one of them, that's when georgia got mad.
leyla had the ball and was coming up close towards kim, the two making brief eye contact before leyla swiftly kicked the ball to her while being rushed by elena and mackenzie
kim trapped the ball with her feet and turned around, running towards the goal with the ball at her toes
she heard the loud roaring of both her coach and leo; she tried to focus as leo was yelling the most adorable things
"that's my girl!"
she kicked the ball hard towards the goal and hoped the ball would make it; but that wasn't the case when georgia got the ball between her feet first and kicked it long and high...
"kim watch out!"

kim stumbled back a bit before catching herself and leo appeared by her side not even a second later, hands eager to touch kimberly as blood began to run down her nose and touch her lip
"are you okay?" leo says worried and before kim could answer, her teammates began running towards her
kim watched as the girls went through the spirit, asking kim if she was alright before leo slowly withdrew himself; a sad type of angry because he wasn't a human and couldn't touch someone he cared about
"oh my god it's just a little blood, she isn't dying!" georgia yelled from where she was, not moving an inch with her hands on her hips smirking
then it was kim's turn to get angry.
"you are so goddamn unnecessary georgia, you start such childish bullshit cause you think you're better or something!" kim yells back, making her way past her teammates and towards georgia
"it was an accident dumbass, don't get so aggressive." georgia snaps
kim was just two steps away from georgia when she said, "i'm gonna need you to sit your ass down somewhere because we are teammates, not opposites. we're suppose to build each other up—"
"—and it's really hard to listen to your monkey rant without paying attention to the blood dripping down your shirt."
kim saw a blinding flash of white before grabbing georgia aggressively by her shirt,
but before a fight could actually escalate, coach hudson finally got over to them before pushing the two away from each other
"you two. principal. now."
