A Painting

There is a painting on my wall
A painting of a world
A world unlike my own
Where everything is just for show.
There are tall buildings,
Surrounded by tall trees
There are two men sitting on the sidewalk
One in a suit, the other in rags
Hatred is dead,
Violence is in exile.
Peace and unity,
Together at last.
This painting held me spellbound
Does this depict the artist's desire?
Is it just wishful thinking?
Or perhaps this is a future he has foreseen.
