Chapter 15 [unedited]

  "Then don't."
...

Nik told me of his plans for Stefan and I decided I didn't want to deal with that. So I went and found Ezra while he was at the Mystic Grill.

"Hey Ezra." He greeted me with a simple hello. "Are you gonna talk to me, or are we just gonna sit here." He shrugged.

"What happened at the gym." I sighed. That was not the kind of talk I was looking for, but it was a start.

"Nik compelled Stefan to turn his emotions off and follow his every command, you know, he was just being himself." He nodded, leaving us in silence. After a few moments I couldn't take it, there was something on his mind and I wanted to find out what. "What Ezra?" He sighed

"I thought you would've told him by now. What with all the moping around you did for the past century." Looking down, the feeling of guilt swept through me. I hated lying, but I couldn't tell Nik the truth yet, it wasn't safe.

"You know why Ezra! I can't tell him, I can't tell anyone!" Ezra was clearly struggling to stay supporting me, however he was not one for getting in the middle of things and the thing between Nik and I did just that.

"What am I supposed to say when he asks me? He knows I know something, thanks to you by the way." Nodding, I sighed. Apologies were never my strong suit.

"Look I'm sorry about everything but, I just... I couldn't.." Ezra just stared, waiting for me to finish. "I couldn't lie to him." I looked down, wiping a tear that had rudely threatened to fall. He smiled sadly and pulled me into a hug that I needed for a long time. I fell into him and let one tear show itself before sitting back up and having a drink with an old friend.

The door to the grill opened and the person was coming right towards us. "Come on, Rose. It's time to go sweetheart." Looking up, I found myself staring into the blue eyes of Nik. I shook my head, sighing.

"Why? Where are we going?" He looked slightly annoyed.

"It doesn't matter, we are leaving this town, finding wolves to turn into hybrids. I know you might know of a few spots." I looked down, staring at my feet.

"I'm staying here Nik, with Ezra. I haven't seen him in a while and I want to catch up." Nik growled. "Besides, I can keep an eye on the locals until you return, which we both know you will. Make sure they're not doing anything that could stop your plans." He stared at me with such an intensity I forgot Ezra was even there.

"Well, I don't want you to stay here. I already told you I'm not letting you out of my sight again, we both know what happened the last time." He was beginning to get on my nerves. I understood where he was coming from, but, he needed to be able to trust me before I could reveal my big secret, whether Mikael was dead or not.

"Nik," I stood up, "I already told you, I'm not leaving you again. I will always be there, and you need to learn to trust that again. To trust me." My hands slid up to his face, forcing him to look me in the eye and his hands fell onto my waist. "I promise, I will never leave again, but I need time Nik. I need time to mend other bonds and I can't do that with you by my side, this needs to be done alone." He sighed. I honestly believed that he was going to throw me over his shoulder and carry me out by force.

 "Okay." He agreed, surprising everyone.

"Okay?" I asked, reassuring the both of us and totally not quoting the fault in out stars.

 "Okay."

*************************

Turns out Nik had left Bekah, and now all of us were sitting in the living room of a mansion I had gotten, just outside of Mystic Falls that no one knows about. "So..." I started but was cut off by a slight glare from Bekah. I think she was still kind of annoyed at me for everything.

 "Rebekah?" Ezra said.

"Yeah?" She answered instantly. She was pissed at me and overjoyed by Ezra coming back into their lives.

"Are you mad at me, or just Emmaline?" She looked disgusted at the mention of my name. I felt horrible, every sideways glance I got from her made me want to kill someone, mostly myself for all the pain I caused her.

"As the rat knows, I am incredibly angered at her and her presence, but you I am fine with." She actually called me a rat. Rude.

"You do realize that he played a part in my escape right? That he and your brother both knew I was alive?" She glared at me again.

"Was I speaking to you? No, you are unneeded. You can leave now." I understood why she was mad, but that was the final straw. She didn't understand that I had a reason, no one did. She also didn't realize that she wasn't the only one that got hurt during everything. They have no idea what I went through.

"Well excuse me Queen Fucking Elizabeth, but this is my house and if anyone needs to leave it's you!" Ezra went to interrupt my spout of anger. "No! I'm tired of it! She has absolutely no idea what I went through! The things I dealt with! She has no right to be angry at me because she doesn't even know half of the story! I understand that I am at fault here and understand why she's upset but now the only thing she is a little brat that believes her and her feelings are more important than everyone else's and I'm sick of it!"

"Emmaline, maybe you should go for a walk, cool down before you say anything you might later regret." Rebekah looked at me like she had won, because to her she had. I caught the message he was sending, the information that no one needed to know yet, but I was still pissed.

I stormed out, getting kicked out of my own house. I sped off into the woods somewhere, taking the time to breathe in and out. My favorite thing to do used to be to go out into the woods, are any area really, and just walk, thinking about things from the past.

I was walking, late one night in the middle of the woods. I knew someone was following me, but I couldn't put my finger on who. Turning at random, the footsteps behind me turned too. I smiled slightly, just wondering who was rude enough to be following a lady around this late at night. "Where are you going?" Turning around, my eyes met the beautiful blue ones that had haunted my dreams for the past week after meeting them at the party.

"Niklaus. I wondered who it was that was stalking a lady at midnight." A small smirk appeared on his face, as a smile did on mine.

"And who is this lady you speak of?"  He did not know who he was messing with.

"You're right." His smirk grew. "I don't suppose it's possible to stalk oneself." His smirk lessened, and one grew on my face. I could've sworn I heard the slightest laugh.

"Where are you going?" He asked when I began walking again.

 "I don't know." I answered honestly.

"Mind if I walk with you then?"

 "Sure, why not."

***********************

"Anna!" I heard Rebekah scream my name before running over to me, sweeping me up into a hug.

"Hello Rebekah." I laughed when Nik grumbled to his sister, obviously annoyed that she had interrupted out conversation.

"Nik, be nice to your sister." He rolled his eyes. Rebekah and I hadn't seen each other for around a year, Kol had decided to throw a temper tantrum and I didn't want to get in the middle of everything. Sometimes he can be worse than Nik. "I've missed you, Beks." I said, pulling her into another hug.

"I've missed you, too." She paused for  second. "We all have." It was then I realized everyone else had come out of hiding to say hi to me. After Kol and Elijah got their share of time with me, Rebekah dragged me out into the garden.

"So, what have you been up to in the past year?" Rebekah asked, while looking at the flowers.

"Not a lot, really. I've just been travelling a little bit, I think the most interesting thing I did was manage to make a prince fall in love with me." I laughed a little bit, remembering the look on his face when I threatened to kill him if he didn't leave me.

"Really? Humans really are stupid sometimes, with their need for everyone to love them. They don't know how good they have it." I nodded.

"Well, we both know that given the chance you would have every man bowing down before you." She gave me a look. "And some day you will."

"You truly believe that?" She truly didn't know how someone could be with her, none of her family did. It tore me to pieces.

"I promise. One day, whether it be tomorrow or in five hundred years, there will be a man who will fall head over heels in love with you, and you him, and you will know true happiness." I smiled at her, her face lighting up with every word I spoke.

 "How do you know?"

"Because, that is what you deserve."

The wind was blowing through the trees, the sound of the branches pulled me back into reality. Tears formed in my eyes at the mere thought of never being with Rebekah like that again. She was my best friend for over six hundred years, and it pained me to think of the pain I had caused her. The pain I had caused everyone.

But they would know soon enough, and I could only hope that they would forgive me when that time comes.
