Hemmings' House

Amelia's POV

I was running a bit late out the door to Luke's house, but I got there sure enough. I grabbed the keys to my motorcycle and ran out of the house. I hopped on my bike and drove off to the Hemmings' house. When I got there, I heard the tuning of instruments coming from the garage and knocked on the garage door. A few seconds later, it went up and I saw the guys all standing there with Luke at the garage button. "Glad you could make it," he said.

I then smiled and made my way to my chair. I sat on my wooden box and patted it to make a few noises. "Nice shirt," Michael complimented. I looked down and saw that I was wearing my Nirvana shirt with the band symbol on it.

"Thanks," I replied with a smile. I normally wore t shirts, it was my thing. Except today, I decided that I would wear my red flannel over my shirt with my black jeans. Changing it up.

"What're we gonna play first?" I asked.

"How about Voodoo Doll?" Calum suggested tuning his bass guitar a bit more.

The rest of us all nodded in agreement and began to play. I loved this song, it was one of my favorites that they've written. The best was when Michael had his little solo moment, it was amazing the way he did it.

After playing a few songs, I heard my ring tone. It was an excerpt from the song I Am the Doctor from Doctor Who. I picked it up and saw Seth was calling me. I looked at my friends and made a sideways smile. "I have to take this," I told them as I answered it. "Hello?"

"Hey, Ams, I was wondering if you wanted to come over to my place?" he asked.

"Uh..."

"My parents aren't home at the moment, and won't be till late tonight," he intrigued. "My brother is here, but he won't bother us. So, what do you say?"

I sighed. "I'm kind of busy at the moment," I told him.

"You're with those people again, aren't you?"

"No, no, no," I lied. "I'm out shopping."

"Amy, I really want you to come, I have a something special prepared for you," he said with a touch of sadness in his voice. "Remember what we agreed to at lunch the other day?"

"Yes," I breathed. I definitely remember what he told me at the lunch table. He told me that it made him upset that I was sitting with my friends, and that I needed to make it up to him this weekend. "I'll be there. It just might be a bit, I'm kind of far away," I gave in.

"That's okay, just come as soon as possible, I'm just gonna go run out and grab some things before you get to my place," Seth said. "See ya, babe."

"Bye," I murmured solemnly. Okay, I admit, I did see him as sort of a jackass but thought he'd be better alone... BUT HE WASN'T! (He's even worse alone, if ya know what I mean). He is still an arrogant person who only cares about his needs. I honestly don't know why I don't just break up with him. I don't even know why he wanted to be with me. I've had a crush on him for years, and now I don't even want to look at him. He's such a pig. All we do is literally make out whenever we are together. It's disgusting, honestly.

I put my phone down and saw the three guys looking at me with blank expressions. "It was him, wasn't it?" Michael questioned with a sigh.

I nodded slowly. "Yep," I sighed.

"Are you gonna leave?" Luke wondered.

I bit my lip and nodded slowly. "Yeah," I said looking down. "Sorry, I'll see you all later."

I quickly stood up and went through the house to exit. I got on my black motorcycle and drove over to Seth's house, which wasn't as far from here as I thought.

I parked my bike in the driveway of the Irwin house and knocked on the door. A few seconds later, I guy with really wavy, light brown hair opened the door. "Hi," I said.

"Hey, you must be Amelia, it Amy," he said. I shrugged as if it didn't matter. "Well, of course you're Amelia, I saw you at the party last weekend."

I nodded. "Are you Seth's brother?" I questioned.

He smiled. "I sure am," he replied. "Oh, sorry, I'm Ashton by the way. I kinda forgot to mention that." He then opened the door wider and let me in.

"Is Seth home yet?" I asked looking around.

"No, but you can wait for him in the basement," he told me.

"Where's the basement?"

Ashton then motioned for me to follow him. "I'll show ya," he said as he led me to a staircase. He flipped the lights and down in the ginormous basement was a huge television screen, a couch, a ping pong table, and a drumset.

I gasped when I saw the drums. "Oh my gosh!" I exclaimed. "I didn't know Seth played drums!"

Ashton chuckled. "He doesn't," he said with a huge smile showing his dimples. "I do."

"Really?" I asked and he nodded. "I kind of play the drums, it's a wood crate really. But I use it for a band I'm kind of in."

"What do you mean by 'kind of'?" he wondered.

"I'm just their 'drummer' till they get a real one," I explained. "Because I kind of suck."

"You can't be that bad," he stated. Ashton then opened a drawer behind the drum set and pulled out two sticks. He then handed them to me. "Play something."

I grabbed the sticks and shook my head. "I told you, I play a crate. Not an actual set!" I argued.

Ashton then guided me to the stool in which you sit at and pushed me down. "Just try," he insisted.

"What should I play?"

Ashton shrugged. "Anything," he responded. He then gave me a nod. "How about something from the bad on your shirt?"

I looked down to remember what I had on, which I did frequently. I saw I was wearing a Nirvana shirt and thought of the first song that popped in my head. "Drain You?" I suggested.

Ashton smiled in response and clapped. "Excellent! Go ahead!"

I gulped and started playing what I thought was Drain You by Nirvana, or at least the drum beat. I thought I sucked, and I think Ashton thought so too because he was cringing. I stopped playing and shook my head. "I can't," I said handing the sticks back to him.

He took them and sat down on the stool. "Okay, let me try," he said. He then started playing and did it perfectly. His version really emphasized how much I sucked.

When he finished he raised his eyebrows in response. I just smiled and applauded. "Far better than me," I replied.

Ashton rolled his eyes as if he was embarrassed. "Thanks," he said. "Now come over here, I'll teach you how to play."

I went over to him and he patted his lap for me to sit on. I just looked at him. "Oh come on, I'm not gonna bite you," he teased.

"I know, but I'm quite heavy," I told him.

"I bet you're not," he stated. "Besides, I'm pretty strong."

I shook my head, but he grabbed my hands and brought me onto him. I tried not to put any of my weight on him, but it was kind of uncomfortable. Also awkward considering I was dating his brother. He then gave me drumsticks. I took them and he placed my hands in his. "Ready?" he asked.

I nodded. He then showed me what all the different drums were called and their sounds. He then taught me how to play a few songs. The two of us had a fun time together.

After he showed me how to play a bit of Jesus of Suburbia, we stopped and just kind of sat there. I sat there on top of him and his hands around mine and I felt my heart beat speed up.

I looked back at him and saw he was looking straight at me with a smile. I smiled back. Before things got awkward, and an idea planted in my head. "Hey, do you think you can join my friends' band?" I asked hopping off of him.

"Yeah, sure," Ashton replied. "What're they called?"

"5 Seconds of Summer," I told him. "They're really good, and I'm sure they'd rather have you then me."

Ashton nodded. "Yeah, that'd be great," he said.

"Okay, let me call Luke real quick. He's kind of the 'leader', just don't tell Michael I said that," I told him as I whipped out my phone. I clicked Luke's contact and called him. It rung a few times but it finally picked up. They must be practicing.

"Hello?" he answered.

"Hey, it's me and I just think I found you a drummer," I formed him.

"Really? Who is he?" asked Luke getting excited.

"His name is Ashton, he's Seth's older brother," I replied.

"Great! What days is he free?"

I took the phone off my ear and turned to Ashton. "What're your free days?" I asked.

Ashton smiled. "Every damn day," he answered.

I laughed a bit and then went back to my phone. "Any day is good," I said.

"Can he come by tomorrow to meet us?" Luke wondered. "It'd be just of like a job interview. Tell him he can meet us-"

"At Macca's!" I heard Michael yell in the background.

"Shut up, Michael! You're the only one who actually likes that garbage," Calum snapped on the other line.

"You know what, Calum? You're the only one who doesn't like their garbage," Michael argued.

"Both of you shut up, we are meeting at my house," Luke yelled at them. "Sorry about that. Tell him to meet us at my house around noonish."

"I'll bring Macca's!" Michael called.

"Will you just-" Calum started.

"See ya," Luke said before hanging up.

I just turned off my phone and put it in my pocket. "He said to meet him at his house at twelve," I informed Ashton. "I'll give you his address. Also don't worry about lunch, Michael is gonna bring food."

"Okay, great," he said. "Or you could drive me on your badass motorcycle."

My face turned red with embarassment. "Oh," I muttered.

"Sorry, it's just that the way my brother described you, you seemed like the last person to own a motorcycle," he apologized. "He says you're really quiet and nerdy. In a good way... I think," he quickly added.

"Um, yeah, sure," I agreed awkwardly. "I'll come here tomorrow and take you to Luke's place."

"You don't have to, I was just curious on your answer," Ashton explained.

There was an awkward silence before either of us said anything, and then Ashton decided to say something. "You know, you aren't what I expected you to be like," he told me.

"And what did you think I was going to be like?" I questioned curiously.

"I honestly expected you to be a slut," he said frankly. I was taken aback by this and he noticed. "Sorry, but that pretty much sums up all the girls Seth dates."

"Okay," I said breathy and awkwardly.

"I'm only saying this because you seem like a nice girl," he started, "but I'd be careful with him. He could really hurt you or worse."

"Expelled" I wanted to say, but I kept in my Harry Potter reference because I knew what he was actually referring to. Seth had actually tried to a few times even though we've only been together a week. I just nodded and listened to him.

"He does this with all the girls," he continued. "He'll make you feel like you're the only girl he ever cared about, and then break you to nothing. You're smart though, I can tell, you could sense it. I'm just saying you should get put before anything truly awful happens. Which I'm afraid will be today."

"Do the others listen to you?" I asked.

"What others?"

"His other girlfriends," I answered.

"They never were warned," he responded. "They were all stupid cheerleaders who knew absolutely nothing. I told you because I'm going to catalogue us as friends. Got that?"

I nodded. "Thank you," I muttered. "I'll make sure to watch out for his antics."

"I'm serious, Amelia," he said sternly. "I really think you should break up with him or else some bad things will happen. Okay?"

I nodded slowly. "I'll break up with him," I assured.

"Good," Ashton said.

Then we heard the front door open and Ashton and I looked at each other. "Ash! I'm home!" Seth called from upstairs. "Is Amy here yet?"

I looked at Ashton with a worried look. I wasn't ready to do this. Ashton gave a reassuring smile. "Yeah, she's down here!" he called up.

We then heard Seth run down the stairs into the basement. "What the hell were you doing with her, Ash?" he asked getting defensive as he furrowed his brow at the two of us.

"Nothing," Ashton responded, "I was just teaching her how to play the drums because she was interested."

"Sure," Seth rolled his eyes. Then he grabbed my hand forcefully and he aggressively pulled me up the stairs. I looked behind and gave Ashton another worried look.

Ashton mouthed "Do it" and then gave me a nod. I then looked back at Seth and he brought me to the living room.

He sat down on the couch and I sat down on the other end of the couch. For some reason I just did not want to be anywhere near him.

Seth looked at me weirdly. "What're you doing all the way over there?" he asked. I shrugged unsure of what to say. He then got up and dragged me over to him. He plopped me onto of him and I just felt awkward. "Sorry, about Ashton," he apologized.

"Why? I think he's a really nice lad," I replied staring blankly at the wall.

"He's not, he just gives people bullshit information about bands and is basically married to his drums," Seth joked and laughed. "What a loser," he murmured in between giggles. "He's not as bad as that multi colored hair guy you're friends with. What's his name again? Mitchel?"

"Michael," I muttered.

Seth laughed some more. "Oh yeah, Michael Pissford, how could I forget?" he chuckled.

I don't know what happened, but I got so upset. My head startled to boil and I jumped off of him. "His name is Michael Clifford!" I yelled. "He is my best friend and I am NOT going to sit here and hear you talk badly about him! And your brother isn't a loser either! He is one of the coolest people I've ever met because I happen to really like people who give me 'bullshit information' about bands! I bet you don't even know what my shirt is!"

"Oh, yeah, I was gonna ask about the weird smile," Seth said.

I was about to yell again, but before I could Seth grabbed my hands and looked into my eyes. "Babe, what is all this about?" he asked in a civilized tone.

I opened my mouth to say something, and saw something moving out of the corner of my eye. It was Ashton silently coming up the stairs of the basement. I saw him and then looked back at Seth. "Because I'm breaking up with you," I said meekly.

Seth let go of my hands and sat up. "You're what?" he quetioned.

I took a deep breath and looked at him. "I'm breaking up with you," I repeated more confidently. "You are an evil man-whore who thinks he can do whatever he wants just because he's good looking and popular." I smiled and sighed. "There, I said it," I muttered proudly of myself.

I looked over and saw Ashton silently clapping and then giving me a thumbs up with his dimples showing. "I don't get it," Seth said. "No one has ever really broken up with me."

I smiled. "I guess that makes me the first, isn't that an honor?" I said reminding myself a bit of Donna Noble. I then was so caught up in the moment I had an idea to make Seth even more angry. I walked over to Ashton and put my arm around him. "It's also because Ashton and I have been secretly going out," I told him.

Ashton put his arm around me and played along. "It's true," he agreed. "It's been a few days of us now."

I then smirked at Seth and felt invincible. As I was basking in my glory Ashton then planted a long kiss on me. He pulled away and smirked at Seth as well. "Looks like the player has been played," Ashton told Seth as the two of us walked out of the house.

Once we were out, the two of us just started laughing hysterically. We couldn't stop.

When we had finally calmed down a bit, Ashton smiled at me. "Do you want to go grab something to drink?" he invited.

I slowed down my laughter to nod. "Yeah, sure," I accepted. I then got on my bike. "Come on," I motioned.

Ashton then sat behind me and I handed him my helmet. He hung onto me and we drove off to a local cafe and there sparked a beautiful friendship.
