After the Passing

Your passing silenced my every reason to live

I now question God's own master plan

Wherein I was once resolute in its certainty

Now I remain forever skeptical

There was no true sorrow until now

Yet the birds continue to fly and sing

The sky is not forever gray and cold

As I thought it must remain since that day

I cannot think it possible to ever laugh aloud again

Yet your beautiful spirit makes me smile widely

In your memory autumn shall not fade to black

The hue and contrast of life continues to endure

These things I can not seem to understand as I wait here

Looking into the ashes of my heart this September day

Watching my breath blow heated steam into the air

As what remains of you burns inside me forever
