We didn't want to brave the storm again,
So we went upstairs,
Just hoping
That the water wouldn't rise
To our level.
But I know
It's futile,
Because soon,
The streets are going to flood,
This house is going to be swept away,
And then there'll be nothing left of Delilah and I.
So for once in my life
I'm praying to a God
That I don't even know
If He exists,
But I'm hoping He does,
Because He could save us.
I'm praying
And praying
That He will give us a chance.
Because as much as I want to die,
I think I want to live as much,
If not more.
Faced with death,
Has me terrified.
And then I realize something.
I don't want to die.
That sends me
Into panic mode
Because how am I going to get out of here?!

I find car keys
On the counter
Next to a little card
That has a bible verse on it.
It must've fallen
Out of the owner of the house's bible.
I don't think much of it
As I reach for the car keys,
But it catches my eye.
So I read it.
Isaiah 41:10
Fear not,
For I am with you;
Be not dismayed,
For I am your God;
I will strengthen you,
I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
My heart starts thumping.
Is this what I think it is?
But it can't be...
Right?
But I know that I'm hoping
That it really is a sign,
Because then Delilah and I
Have a chance...
A chance to get out if this mess.
So I grab the keys,
Hoping
And praying
And even believing
That God really does exist
And that He really will save us.
I drag Delilah out into the garage,
Where I find the truck
That the keys belong to.
I shove her inside,
Praying we'll be able to make it
To the town cellar
Before everything starts flooding.
