"This means I'm giving you a chance. . ." Chaeyoung says. "As friends."

Lisa felt a hint of disappointment in her chest but nevertheless, she was grateful for what she was getting. She deserved no more than what the older girl was giving her. Lisa looked up towards the sky and let out a small sigh. The sun poured out it's brilliant hot oranges into the horizon like a pot of molten lava.

"Okay," Lisa nods eagerly. "That works just fine. Friends."

"Yeah."

Chaeyoung stops to look at her, noticing exactly how disappointed she was, but she had a limit to what she could give at the moment. If Lisa wanted to be in her life again, it would take a lot more to gain her trust back, unfortunately. It takes a lot more than apologizing to become a friend again, but Chaeyoung was willing to give her a chance despite what happened and that was all Lisa could ask for. She was grateful.

The wind blows against them one more time and the sun had risen an inch higher and neither of them said a word in the awkwardness that had grown with them.

"Let's hang out," Lisa says abruptly.

Chaeyoung looks up at her, eyes widening in surprise. She stared a bit, causing Lisa to blush slightly. Flustered, the blonde looked toward the ground getting prepared for her to get turned down.

"Okay."

The blonde smiles in relief, sighing a bit to release the tensions in her body. She relaxed a bit and let her arms loose as she looked toward the older girl.

"I'll just get my things," Chaeyoung says, pointing her eyebrows toward the building.

"Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah," Lisa talks quickly, getting caught up with her eagerness. "I'll wait for you down here."

Chaeyoung nods and starts walking past Lisa, who had taken a quick second to watch as her coat drifted a bit at her tail, and how her hair had flowed down her back as the wind flew between her strands. She smiled brightly, watching her before shaking her head and walking back to her car.

Before she had a moment to take the driver's seat, she looked to see if Chaeyoung was still in sight. When she noticed she wasn't, Lisa punched the air above her and whispered/yelled a "Yes!" as she had no way to contain the joy she had been feeling since Chaeyoung had given her a chance. The only downside to the whole thing was that she was friends with her. Not that she didn't like being friends, but it was a downgrade to what their relationship was two years ago, but Lisa couldn't ask for more. Literally. Not to mention, it was too soon. They had rushed things that night before wedding, which had seemed to leave a toll on the two of them.

The blonde gets into her car and parks herself in front of the building, waiting for a certain brunette to come out. To say she was excited was an understatement. The fact that Lisa had the chance to be with her again, in way that wasn't sexual, put her in good spirits. Lisa took a peak through her car window, hoping to see Chaeyoung walk out soon.

And she did. Unfortunately, she came out with a guy that she wished she didn't see. Jungkook walked beside her with a smile on his face, talking about god-knows-what, as Chaeyoung listened intently before waving a goodbye to him. Chaeyoung walked up towards the car and knocked lightly on her car window. Lisa immediately unlocked her doors to let the older girl in even though the blonde had been raging in her seat quietly as she stared out past the hood of her car.

Chaeyoung takes a moment to adjust herself in her seat, feeling how uncomfortable Lisa was. She knew Lisa saw the two of them walk out and almost cursed at the fact that Jungkook followed her out, but it wasn't her fault since the boy was just leaving the building. The brunette glanced at Lisa for a moment.

"So, where are we going?" Chaeyoung asks, trying to lift up her mood.

"Huh?" Lisa blinks and looks toward the older girl, feeling her heart rate increase at the fact that Chaeyoung was sitting right beside her. "Oh, um, I actually haven't thought that far. I didn't think you'd say yes."

"Well, I did, so hurry up and make a plan," the brunette smiled.

As Lisa watched her lips curve, she couldn't help but grin herself, as she took a moment to stare at her involuntarily.

"Lisa?"

The blonde blinked again and shook her head, looking up at Chaeyoung, "Sorry, I was just, um, thinking."

"About where we're going, hopefully?"

"Yes! That! We're going to, uh," Lisa thinks hard again, as her brain cells rush to form at least one location in this vast city, and it does, fortunately, "Actually, just sit back and relax and enjoy the ride."

Chaeyoung lets out a giggle, "I hate you for saying that."

Lisa smiles this time as she finally placed her hands on the steering wheel, forcing herself to turn away from the girl next to her. It had been a struggle for her to make sure that she wasn't staring too much at the brunette in the past thirty minutes or so. She blamed the fact that Chaeyoung looked pretty during any time of day and as much as she loved it, she hoped it wouldn't have been such a huge distraction despite the fact that she was just wearing a simple, brown coat over her shoulders.

After her foot presses on the gas pedal, the car finally rides off out of the parking lot and into the vast city of soul. It was a quiet drive as seeing how the awkwardness never really left their atmosphere. Chaeyoung sat still in the passenger's seat with her eyes looking past the window. Lisa was thanking that she was driving, because if she wasn't she wouldn't know what to do with her hands. She gripped the curves of the wheel and constantly glanced at the girl beside her, wondering what to say. The only audio filling the air at the moment was the music playing from the car radio. And though it lifted the tensions a bit, the two of them still felt stuffy.

Soon after several minutes, they had finally reached their destination. Chaeyoung raises her eyebrows and looks looks at the small building. A blush pinks her cheeks as she glanced towards Lisa and the café. Chaeyoung sighs and steps out of the car at the same time as Lisa. They walked over the curbs and met each other in front of Lisa's car. Chaeyoung looks at the building anxiously. It was the same café from two and a half years ago when Lisa had planned to take her home that night. It never really changed in appearance, except for the new coffee logo on the sign.

"Really?" Chaeyoung scoffs with a playful smile, "Out of all places?"

Lisa shrugged, "It seemed appropriate."

"It seems like a date," the brunette corrects.

"No, this is two girls, who were once ex-lovers, just hanging out at a café while grabbing some coffee," Lisa interjects and starts walking into the building through the glass doors.

The blonde leaves Chaeyoung's side before she even gets to say anything back. With a sigh and a shake of her head, the older girl follows in pursuit. When she walks into the room, the two of them are immediately stricken with the aroma of French vanilla coffee filling their noses along with the calming, smooth jazz pouring out of the speakers in the ceiling.

Lisa orders black coffee for herself and another bagel for Chaeyoung, even though she had protested that she had already eaten one. The two of them sat in the same seats by the window in silence, waiting for their orders to come.

"So, tell me," Lisa starts, glancing up at the girl before her, "What have you been doing these two years?"

Chaeyoung smiles at her lightly, "If you haven't already noticed, I'm a singer."

The blonde shakes her head, her lips curving into a pout, "No, no. I already got that. Just, uh, before that."

"Okay, well, remember that letter I got about a callback for that entertainment company?"

Lisa nods.

"Yeah, well, I went to Sydney for a bit and I redid my audition," Chaeyoung says, thinking about her memories, "And they accepted. I wrote songs and such and now some of them are on the radio and I'm happy."

With a smile, Lisa stared at her, "I'm proud of you. You're doing good."

"Thank you," Chaeyoung looks down at the table with a blush pinking her cheeks as she receives Lisa's praise.

Lisa, on the other hand, can't gazing at her until their order comes. She found it hard to believe that she was in her presence on such good terms at the moment. A year ago, she wouldn't have expected this.

"So, um, what have you been up to?"

The blonde looks up at her nervously, "Which part?"

"Well, you could start explaining why you left."

In Lisa's eyes, Chaeyoung looked scary at the moment despite that blank expression resting on her face. She knew she was expecting an answer at this time but she didn't know where to start.

"I–Um—I, uh—"

"Lisa, I'm not going to get mad at you," Chaeyoung reassures her, "I just want to know why and I want to hear it coming from you."

The blonde releases the tensions in her shoulders and nods. Chaeyoung's voice was still as calming and soothing as ever and she remembered that this was the girl that she trusted with all her heart two years ago.

"I thought leaving you, and Jennie and Jisoo but mostly you, would protect you guys. And it did," Lisa starts off, looking down with a sigh, "I knew you would get angry with me in the process, honestly, I'd rather have that than you getting hurt. I mean, you were in a coma because of me."

Chaeyoung sets her bagel down and watches the blonde. She wasn't shaking, but she could tell that she was scared and anxious. She had the urge to put her hand over hers but she wanted to hear her out first.

"Lisa, I don't blame you for—"

"But, it was still my fault and you know that. Jennie knows and everybody else."

The brunette shakes her head attempting to protest, but she kept her mouth shut for a moment.

Lisa continued, "So, I've been working some jobs for my dad. Dealing, selling or whatever he'd give me. Eventually, it helped his company get back to the top of the black market or whatever and there were no more rivals either. He didn't have to merge with another company and I didn't have to marry Taeyong or anything."

"And that took you two years?" Chaeyoung asks earnestly.

"Yeah, it took a while," the blonde looks at her finally with a small smile playing at her lips, "I planned it to be faster so that I could get back to you as soon as possible, but it was unpredictable, really. And after everything happened, I didn't know how to see you."

Chaeyoung smiled lightly, "You're seeing me, now."

It took a moment for the blonde to smile back happily, "Yeah, you're right."

Lisa watched as Chaeyoung goes back to eating her bagel. She couldn't help but feel a little accomplished at how she finally spoke about what happened. And the fact that Chaeyoung wasn't angry at her, made her feel like she was on top of the world.

"You know, you were really mean to me after the wedding," Lisa smirked at her, taking a sip of her black coffee.

The older girl agrees with a nod of her head as she finishes off her bagel, "Yeah, well we did have a drunken sex the night before and I wanted to be petty at least once."

"Ouch," Lisa puts a hand to her chest dramatically, "That sounds like it could be a new song for you."

"Yeah, I'm not writing about that," Chaeyoung disagrees almost immediately followed by a small giggle.

Lisa takes a last sip of her coffee and smiles as soon as she heard Chaeyoung laugh. It takes all of her strength to tear her gaze away for the beautiful girl in front of her to look around the café and it's little decorations.

"The café hasn't changed that much," Lisa comments.

"Yeah, except the fact that they close earlier though," Chaeyoung replies, "I went here like three months ago and I was surprised when I tried to pull a locked door."

The blonde blinks at her for a moment, "You come here a lot?"

Chaeyoung mentally cursed at herself as she looks up towards the younger girl, immediately regretting her statement, but there was no way to go back now.

"Um, yeah," she says reluctantly, "A year ago, I'd usually be here sometimes, hoping to see you, but as time passed, I just came for the bagels."

Lisa smiles sadly at her, "Oh."

Before Chaeyoung gets to say anything else, her phone rings abruptly and the brunette immediately answers it without hesitation. Lisa watches and listens discreetly for minute until Chaeyoung hands up on whoever was on the phone.

"Lisa, do think you could take me back to the studio?" Chaeyoung asks shyly, "I need to do another recording, apparently."

"Yeah, of course," the blonde pressed her lips tight together in disappointment, before releasing a sigh from her lips.

The two of them wraps up their breakfast and stands to leave the building. The cold wind immediately hits them as they walk out the door, pinking their cheeks slightly. With a short walk to the car, they seat themselves and pull out of the parking lot and onto the road.

Even though the heater was on, the coldness still seeps through the little cracks of every corner of the car. Lisa glances at Chaeyoung who sits quietly by her side. There is a warmth that tumbles out in the fall; when all else is so cold. It radiates from those who love and nurture as easily as they breathe. Sparks of warmth are always there no matter the season, just like a warm rock blends into a summer beach.

Lisa finds it hard to keep her eyes off of Chaeyoung during the drive. Ashe still couldn't believe the fact that they were on good terms right now, despite being friends. But there was still an incompleteness that settled within her.

And she knew that she wouldn't survive being just a friend.
