"How're you feeling?" Roman murmured to his boyfriend who laid stretched out on the hospital bed, his head propped up by a few cushions. He tried to smile with the mask on his face, weakly lifting his arm to hold a thumbs up, but it dropped limply by his side a few moments later. Roman bit down on his lip harshly, hating the sight of his boyfriend in a hospital bed, wired up to machines with a breathing mask on his face.
"I have to go soon" Roman commented, forlorn. He really wanted to stay here for however long it took for Logan to get better - he would stay here, by his side, for years if he had to. Anything for the boy he loved. Logan tiredly gripped his hand, trying to say something but Roman shushed him, leaning over to kiss his forehead.
"Press this button if you need anything.." Roman drifted, patting Logan's hand that held the button that closed a nurse. Even if Logan had already been told that, Roman felt the need to do it anyway, reinforcing the idea that he wanted Logan to stay as healthy, safe, and alive as he possibly could. "And when you can" Roman shifted through his pockets, pulling out Logan's phone and putting it on the table beside him. "Text me. Please" Logan nodded, closing his eyes briefly when Roman kissed his forehead, savouring the moment.
"I love you" Roman murmured, sniffing, giving him a soft hug before he slowly drifted out of the room, closing the door behind him and leaning on it for a few moments. School. School. He needed to get to school. Gulping, he pushed on down the hallway, pressing a hand to his chest as anxiety swarmed through it like a million bees. He will be fine, he thought with gritted teeth, clenching his hands tightly. They will look after him.
Sliding into his car, on the entire drive he gripped the steering wheel tightly, jaw clenched, thoughts filled with Logan. He could feel echoes of the same unadulterated fear he felt when he found Logan passed out in his car after crashing into a tree. It was raining heavily, he must've skidded, unable to stop. Roman blamed himself entirely, he could've let Logan stayed over, yet he decided to be selfish because he was tired. He slammed his hand on the wheel, cupping his face as he stopped at a red light.
He could be dying because of you! His thoughts yelled. He didn't move for what felt like hours until a car behind him honked. Green lights. Sorry. Driving the rest of the way to school, he parked his car, grabbed his bag and marched into the building, head tilted down as he made his way through the empty hallways and to his first period as the hospital trip made him late. He didn't care, though, they could give him all the detentions they wanted, he was still going to see Logan every single fucking day, as many times as he could.
The teacher went to ask why Roman was late, but when he saw how distraught but angry the student was, he bit his tongue and let it slide. In this certain lesson only one of Roman's friends shared it with him. He looked up from his doodles in his book, knowing what had happened to Logan, he also knew to not test Roman for the days Logan will be in hospital.
Roman sat in his seat beside the darkly dressed emo. Hands clenched. Eyes narrowed. Lips twitching. Anything in that moment could make Roman explode, so Virgil stayed silent, making sure not to even look at him too many times, just in case. Nearing the end of the lesson, Virgil timidly reached over and placed his hand on top of Roman's. He tensed, waiting for Roman to do something, but when the boy closed his eyes and squeezed Virgil's hand in return, he relaxed in relief, murmuring to Roman that everything would work out in the end.
Roman nodded, sending Virgil a brief 'thank you' in a smile.
When the bell went, Roman stayed behind, knowing Virgil hated walking in the sea of students. While packing away in the empty classroom, his phone pinged and he dropped everything, whipping it out from his pocket to see who it was from.
Mom.
He had to breathe in and out a few times to stop himself responding with something harsh.
Mom - Come straight home after school today!
Roman - No. I'm seeing Logan.
Mom - Of course you are, Hun! But I have these beautiful flowers that will brighten up his room nicely!
Roman - Oh. Sorry. Thank you
Mom - Don't mention it, love you! Xx
The day seemed to pass slower than usual, at break Roman felt like he had already been here for excruciating hours on end. He sat on the bench outside with his other friends - Patton, Remy, Deceit and Virgil - but it didn't feel the same without his nerd by his side, or sitting opposite him, sharing quips and meaningless insults. He missed him so much. All Roman wanted to do was scoop Logan up and never let go.
"Hey, Kiddo, do you have anything to eat?" Patton asked, lifting himself up to sit down on his leg. Roman went to grab his lunch when suddenly he remembered he forgot to pack it today. "Sorry, I was in a rush" he mumbled, running a hand through his hair.
"Here you go" Patton handed one of his sandwiches over. "No, Patton, I-"
"Girl, you really think he'll take it back? You're lucky he's not shoving it down your throat" Remy piped up, taking a bite into their cold pizza they brought from home. Roman wanted to chuckle but he didn't find it in him. Unwrapping the sandwich, he slowly ate the whole thing, allowing Patton to give him one of his chocolate bars, too.
They all soon parted ways, this time Roman was with Deceit, and the three went off to their lesson in the opposite direction. "Logan will be fine" he commented, meeting Roman's gaze for a few seconds. "And that isn't a lie" he added on jokingly, happy when Roman's lips twitched into some sort of smile.
"Thanks, De.."
After school, Roman rushed home, probably breaking a few speeding laws but he didn't care. He grabbed the flowers, kissed his mother on the cheek, and sped his way to the hospital. He sat in the waiting room for a shorter time than it felt, legs bouncing up and down, flowers held tightly in his hands. Opposite him a few kids placed with toy cars, making overly dramatic crash sounds when they'd knock cars together. Roman chewed his tongue, becoming more agitated each time a nurse would come in, but call someone else out.
Finally someone called his name, and he hurried to Logan's room, finding Logan's single dad already in there. He looked up and smiled gently, "Hey, Ro" he murmured, glancing at the flowers. "They're nice.." he commented, voice that was usually quite like Logan's - stoic and monotonous - had fallen into something without life. Roman thanked him quietly, finding a vase and filling it with water. Setting it on a table, he grabbed a seat and sat beside Logan, reaching over to hold his hand.
The sudden touch made him stir, eyes flickering for a few moments. He wasn't wearing a mask now, so he could talk if he found the energy. "I will leave you two alone" his father spoke up, "I need to work, anyway" he excused, sending the two a tight lipped smile before leaving. Roman knew how much pain the man was in - he had already lost his spouse a few years ago, Logan was all he had left.
"My mom bought flowers" Roman gestured, Logan lifting his eyes to stare at them. He seemed to try and smile, but even that took a lot out of him. "I missed you...your perfect attendance, falling down the drain" he chuckled when Logan rolled his eyes and halfheartedly glared. "I..missed you too.." he croaked, head falling to the side, eyes still staring at Roman with adoration.
Roman brought the chair closer, tilting his head up so he could kiss him softly. Leaning back, he rested his forehead on Logan's, pecking his nose lightly. Both boys giggled quietly, painfully in love with the boy they were currently gazing at.
Roman stayed for a few hours more until he was told to leave. The same arrangement happened each day - in the morning, Roman would visit, act fidgety in school, and come back afterwards. Each day he came, he couldn't be more happy to find Logan was slowly but surely getting better.
"Look at you!" Roman beamed when he entered, "you're sitting up!" Logan, who was reading from his book, lifted his head to stare at his boyfriend who rushed over with a few balloons full of helium. "Patton got you these, they're all coming around on Friday!" He exclaimed excitedly, setting the balloons to the side along with his backpack.
"Even Remy?" He sighed jokingly. "Even Remy" Roman smirked, holding a hand to his jaw as he kissed him passionately. They fell into a comfortable conversation after that, somewhere in between Roman even ended up laying beside Logan, the two cuddling as they murmured quietly into the others ear.
That Friday, Logan had been sleeping peacefully...until his door suddenly burst open and Remy was talking louder than a nuclear bomb explosion. "Hey, bitch!" They smirked, tilting their sunglasses down to stare at Logan who rubbed his eyes and ran a hand through his bed hair. "Giiirl, you look rough" they commented, sitting on the chair and swinging their legs onto the bed.
"Thank you" Logan responded sarcastically. "Hi, Kiddo! I've missed you!" Patton was next, hugging Logan softly. Logan hugged back with a small smile. "I have missed you too, Patton" the cardigan-clod leaned back, giggling. "I saw someone in a wheelchair outside"
"Here we go" Virgil sighed.
"He was wheeled into the operating room, and then had a change of heart" Patton bit his lip, trying to conceal his laughter. Logan pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed, ignoring the fact Roman, Deceit and Remy all laughed at the joke.
"Alright, lets get this out the way" Virgil sighed, standing beside Patton. "Glad you're not dead or whatever" he shrugged, staring at him with a bored expression. "I am happy to see you too, Virgil" they both chuckled and shared a brief hug.
"I'm totally not feeling left out, or anything" Deceit spoke from the other side of the bed. Logan turned to him and allowed Deceit to hug him warmly. "Never thought I would miss your constant corrections" Deceit added on afterwards, Logan rolled his eyes. "I am flattered"
Finally, a bouncy Roman had his turn. Once everyone sat down - Deceit taking a seat on Remy's lap - Roman coiled his arms around Logan's shoulders and brought him into a kiss that lasted longer than both expected. "Jesus, I didn't come here to watch porn!" Virgil quipped.
"I did" Remy smirked without missing a beat. "I think we passed an empty store closet on the way" Deceit smirked, but Patton grabbed them both before they could disappear. "C'mon, guys! We came to see Logan!"
"No, do what you want-" Patton's glare cut him off. "I mean, please stay, I enjoy your company" he replied back in a robotic tone. Everyone laughed, and in the end, so did Patton. They all had a wonderful time considering it was a hospital room - but eventually, they had to leave. Remy and Deceit were first to go, because they all came in cars, and the sooner they arrived home, the better. Everyone didn't want to think about what they were so eagerly planning to do.
Everyone said their goodbyes, leaving Roman and Logan alone. "See you tomorrow, Gumdrop"
"Stay safe, Romeo"
The day Logan could come home was a joyous occasion Roman didn't know was happening. Logan texted his friends he wanted to surprise Roman, so while he was at home, everyone arrived at the hospital in Patton's car. In Logan's accident, he had broken his leg, so he had to travel on crutches for awhile. Luckily, he got the hang of them pretty quickly, but everyone had to help in ease into the car.
"De! You're dropping him!" Remy scolded from inside the car, their arms wrapped around Logan's middle to steady him. "Oh my gosh" Logan was gripping the roof of the car and the door tightly in case he was actually going to drop. "As a matter of fact" Deceit drawled, "I'm not - you're making this more difficult"
They gasped, glaring over the rim of their sunglasses. "Come by me again, bitch?"
"Jesus Christ" Virgil muttered under his breath from the passenger seat.
"Guys!" Patton giggled, curling one arm under Logan's legs, the other supporting his back. Once the two had let go of him, Patton was able to sit him down. "Told you" Deceit shot at Remy who glared and climbed out the car their end. Behind the vehicle, their argument carried on. "I had him, you decided to help!"
"You asked for my help" Deceit deadpanned.
Remy went to go on but Deceit pulled them close by the waist, kissing them softly. "I love you" he murmured, Remy turned their head, but sighed and stared at their boyfriend with a content expression. "Fuck you" Deceit laughed, hugging them. "You wish, power bottom"
Once arriving at Roman's house, Patton brushed the other three away and helped Logan out. Using his crutches, he slowly climbed up Roman's path, the other four ducking away once Remy knocked on the door. A few moments later, Roman opened it up, phone in hand. "Greetings-...Logan!" He dropped his phone and curled his arms under Logan's, picking him up from the ground and twirling him around.
"MC squared, Roman!" He yelled in fright, "put me down!" Instead, Roman held him up with his arms under his butt, leaning up to kiss him.
"You're here..." he drifted happily, tears welling in his eyes. "I love you" he added against his lips, Logan sighed and gave in, dropping the crutches to wrap his arms around his neck. "I love you too, you halfwit"
The others left, allowing Roman and Logan to cuddle together on Roman's bed for the evening.
"I'm never letting you drive again" Logan laughed, face inches away from Roman's.
"You do not need to tell me twice"
