when kang aeri first stepped into high school, as a sixteen year old, her only motive was to study hard so she could grow up and marry a rich and handsome man. that was what she lived by for her sixteen years of life, and counting.
the moment her foot stepped into sopa, school of performing arts, she was ready for whatever life would throw at her. she only had one person to rely on, and that was her bestfriend of six years, na jiyeon.
when aeri came into sopa, she was put into the department of theatre arts, she has always loved acting ever since she was a kid, but as for jiyeon, she was put into the department of practical music. the two of them took a deep breath, looked at each other and told each other, "good luck," before walking to their respective classes.
aeri's first lesson was in the auditorium, but at that point of time, with the school being so big, she didnt know where it was. and everyone around her seemed intimidating. so she gained all the courage in her and tried to talk to the first person that would walk past by her.
of course, to make new friends too! so she stepped right in front of the first person who tried to walk by her. her head bowed down, she looked at the ground, the person standing infront of her was wearing long pants, that meant it was a boy. her fists clenched, she was hoping it was a girl.
"hello! do you need any help?" the boy in front of her enthusiastically exclaimed, trying to look her in the eye. when aeri finally looked up, she was shocked at the boy who was standing right in front of her. he had black hair and black eyes that sparkled, and the name tag showed mark lee in all bold letters.
she gulped, "u-uh, im n-new. do you perhaps know the way to the auditorium?" she asked, stuttering. the boy who was named mark lee, chuckled, his hands in his pocket. he said, "i'm heading to the music room, which is the same path as the auditorium, ill walk you there if you dont mind!"
aeri felt her cheeks become red, but she nodded her head anyways. and with that, the two of them walked to their destinations together. mark was about to break the ice and start a conversation with her but it got interrupted when someone ran up to him with their arms wrapped around his shoulder instead.
they didnt stop walking though, mark turned over to his right, the person's arm belonged to a friend of his'. aeri turned around to look at who mark was talking to, and she felt her eyes widened, she immediately coughed out loud, because she was so shocked at the boy's beautiful visuals. he had a smile that was as wide as the sun.
she didnt want to stop looking at him. but she had to. "hyung! you're going to class?" mark's friend smiled widely, mark hummed, acknowledging his comment. "who's that? is she your new friend?" he asked another question, mark just laughed, "she's new, im walking her to her class since she doesnt know where it is,"
his friend just continued smiling all the way. his smile was contagious, everyone around him was smiling at this point because of the energy that he was radiating. "okay, ill get going then!" he excitedly bid goodbye to mark before running off with the bunch of his other friends. her heart suddenly beat at a slower pace, it was faster when mark's friend was right next to her.
without even realizing, she was already at the auditorium. "here it is," mark chuckled, looking at her, she smiled. "thank you, m-mark," she exclaimed, bowing to him but he stopped her halfway. "you dont have to do that, just treat me like one of your normal friends," he said. "and my pleasure, — " he dragged his sentence to read her nametag.
" — kang aeri," he nervously laughed. "ill get going!" he waved her goodbye and ran straight to class. aeri, on the other hand, was taking deep breaths, she prayed to god that her first day would go smoothly, and if possible, to meet mark lee's goodlooking friend again.
when class ended, all of the students were running out of class. since it was aeri's first day and she didnt have anywhere else to go, she slowly strolled around the school, trying to figure out her way, while waiting for jiyeon to finish her class. she thought it was a good use of her time.
aeri walked wherever he feet took her, and apparently it took her to the cafeteria. but it was flooding with students, so she just decided to give up and find jiyeon's class. 'gonna be a little late, the teacher is sleeping and whatever we do wont wake her up wtf, ill try escaping tho lol, wait for me outside my class' was the text that aeri received from her bestfriend.
she laughed to herself, what kind of teacher would even sleep on the first day of class? but it wasnt her business to care anyway. so she tried her best to find her bestfriend's classroom. this time, without asking anybody for help. she had to be an independent woman. how else is she going to survive in this school for four years?
aeri just walked to whichever department that felt like the music department. her eyes were so busy looking at the numbers on the classroom doors, she didnt realize who's in front of her. and of course, she's gonna bump into someone, and she did. aeri actually hit someone, and her water bottle fell.
not only did it fall, it even broke, and water came out. it hit her feet. she immediately stepped away from the puddle of water. "are you kidding me?" she whispered to herself. she didnt even bother to look at the person who bumped into her.
"oh my god, are you okay?" turns out it was a boy that aeri bumped into. when she tried to clean the water, she looked up to see who it was, and i guess god was on her side that day. it was mark's friend, the one that had her heart beating drums the first time she looked at him. she immediately choked on her words.
"im o-okay! r-really!" she choked on her words repeatedly. he was genuinely concerned for her. "it's all my fault, really! dont worry, ill clean up for you," he insisted, "since it's my fault,". but aeri shook her head,
"it's okay! i can clean it," she didnt want to trouble the guy. "hey! arent you the girl that was walking with mark hyung earlier today?" he asked, slowly recognizing her face.
she felt herself turn red, "yes," she softly murmured. just when she was about to say something else, she heard someone else call her. "aeri! kang aeri!" when aeri turned behind, it was her bestfriend jiyeon. "oh my god, ive been standing here all day calling out your name!" she loudly whispered while walking over.
"kang aeri, thats a cute name," he said, smiling widely, again, like how he always do. when jiyeon walked over disrupting the moment they had, aeri lowkey wanted to punch her bestfriend in the face for being such a cock block. but she just smiled either way. "come on! mrs kim is going to find out that i skipped class if we dont hurry up!" jiyeon grabbed aeri's hands and pulled her away from the boy.
"o-oh, b-bye! ill see you when i see you!" aeri bid the boy infront of her goodbye before getting dragged by jiyeon. the boy just giggled by himself, he was standing there, hands in his pocket, waving back.
"na jaemin!" the boy yelled out from across the hall to aeri. aeri stopped herself from running, and looked back at him.
"im sorry?" she said. the boy walked closer to her. "my name's na jaemin. look for me," he sheepishly smiled. jiyeon rolled her eyes and dragged aeri away from the boy's sight. jaemin watched aeri leave. and aeri was so happy that she got to talk to him. it felt like it was a miracle, bumping into him.
