Chapter 4: Surprise
It's lunch time and my birthday is so boring I haven’t got any birthday wishes or a cake, my mum hasn’t even been over, which sucks. The boys are asleep and I am so bored. The doorbell rings, Yay maybe some excitement. I walk to the door, slowly opening it “Hello” I ask, I see Nick and Ash standing there smiling at me. “Would you like to come in” I ask, they nod and I step out of the way.
I hear small footsteps, looking to the stairs I see Brodie walking down rubbing his eyes. “Hello buddy” Nick says grinning, Brodie looks up, his eyes going wide, than he runs over to me hiding behind my leg.
“Mummy, who is they” he asks.
“Brodie this is, Uncle Nick and Uncle Ash” I smile they look kind of shock but go along with it. Brodie, steps from behind my leg.
“Hwllo” He mumbles.
“Hey buddy, where’s your brother” Ash, ask, Brodie points up the stairs; he sure is my shy boy. “Would you like to show me” Ash suggested holding out his hand. Bro nods grabbing his hand and pulling him along.
I look at Nick “I have an idea, us five…” he holds up five fingers “…are going to have some fun, for your B-day” he smiles. I laugh as much as I want to say no, I need something fun to do, so I nod.

“Chase you said you will help, Nick and Ash are over at her house now, all you have to do is get in” Mrs. Stewart says, I sigh.
“If she doesn’t hate me now, she will after this” I mumble, grabbing the keys. They clap and cheer as I walk out the door.
If you haven’t guessed, they have planned a surprise party for April-Mae, all we have to do, is set it up. I drive to her house, quickly getting in. I knew they have left as, Nick sent me a text.
Hours later, and we had finally finished setting up, I mean this house is bigger than it looks. “Chase” I turn around seeing, one of Aprils best friends Macey, she is a really nice girl, and most likely the only girl that doesn’t dislike April.
You see through-out school. April was the girl who hanged out with the guys, her best friends. Nick, Ash and I. We were popular, April never wanted that much attention, she hanged out with us, but not with our other ‘friends’. Most of the girls hated April, I mean she was best friends with the three most popular guys, she knew me since we were in diapers, and we met Nick and Ash in kinder, If you look at her, what’s not to hate. Most of the guys wanted to be with April, but she never paid them attention, that doesn’t mean she never went with them, because she had, I just made it hard for her. I mean April is mine. Anyway, she met Macey in year 7, I guess they have been best friends ever since, I remember she was always there, when we were dating.
I smile, looking at her “Hey Macey haven’t seen you in a while” I smile she nods.
“Yer how are you? Have you seen April and the boys?” she ask, I look at her confused but nod anyway
“I’m good, and yes I have, do you know who the father is” I ask, her eyes go wide.
“You don’t know” she ask, I shake my head no, making her eyes (if possible) get wider. “I have to go” Than she turns around and runs, off. I sigh, walking to the kitchen there are drinks lined up, since it’s her eighteenth. I grab one taking a seat when I hear someone clearing there voice behind me. I turn around, still sitting.
“You must be Chase” I stare at the little girl looking at me, she might be about fourteen, she has this giant smile on her face. I nod “Omg I love you” she squeals, and then she turns around and runs off.
“Sorry about her” I look at a man walking in; he looked about in his twenties, he holds out his hand “Dan. Dan Landcross I am Aprils boss” he say I shakes his hand.
“Chase Hastings, I’m April’s best friend and…” I trail off, not really wanting to add the EX bit. He nods.
“That was my niece, my sister dropped her off last minute” he laughs, I grin, taking a swig of my drink. “You have been away for a while right” he asks, I nod. “Well watch out, for ‘new bestfriend’ he will kill ya if you hurt her” He say pointing than walking off.
What The Fuck, does he mean by ‘new bestfriend’ this man walks over to me, looking all tough and macho. I laugh what is wrong with him. He nods at me “I heard your back in town Chacey boy” the boy grins. I laugh realizing who it is.
“Simon” I ask, he nods “Well, haven’t you change, um everything” I laugh he nods. “So you’re her new bestfriend” I ask, he looks at me, shaking his head.
“were friends, man but that’s all, it’s the new kid, he makes me laugh, got the hair and everything he thinks his tough and could take us down, so be careful” he jokes, beginning to walk away.
“Wait, who the dude” I ask.
“oh his name is Coby, blonde hair, kind of short but kind of tall, not as tall as you though man” he laughs walking away.
I hear yelling coming from the opposite room. “Coby I wouldn’t, they have known each other forever, get over yourself” A female’s voice yells,
“Shut up, Kenzie, I need to find this dude” he growls, I look over at him, god he is really short compared to me. “Yo, you Chase” he ask, I stare at him nodding “I think we need to talk about April…” he says but after a while, I blocked him out. “…so stay away from, her” I hear, the end. I place my drink down standing up.
He looks at me, stepping back. It kind of looked like in those movies were the nerd gets scared of the tall bully “no you listen to me, whatever your name is. I will not stay away from my girl, I think you need to watch your mouth, now walk away because we all know it won’t end nice, for you” I say, he looked kind of scared, I laughed.
When I heard Mrs. Stewart telling us to hide. “Chase, you have to stand up front” she say, I walk around Coby, and straight to the door, All the lights are off. And I’m standing there in the dark. My phone vibrate indicating I have a text
Walking to door, now :P ~Nick
I smile, waiting for the door, to open.
I just stare as everyone screams, ‘surprise’. I smile, watching her walk around giving her appreciation. My eyes drift off to the twins, how are dancing around with the music that is playing. I really wonder who the father is to these kids; I mean does she even know.
3 Hours Later
Everyone went home and I decided to stay and help April, with the twins. It’s about 9:30 now and she didn’t look to good, Mrs. Stewart let her have a few drinks as it’s her birthday she had a few to many. So I sit here; I just finished putting the twins in bed, while April is having a shower.
I hear footsteps, coming from the stairs, I turn around to see April, she softly smiles, sitting next to me, on the couch “Thanks” she whispers.
“It’s no problem, how ya feeling” I ask, she shrugs,
“I haven’t had a good drink since I had the twins” she laughs, I nod
“You had them at fifteen or sixteen right” I ask, she nods, mumbling a sixteen. I stare at her, as she looks at me softly smiling. “Whose are they” I blurt out, she looked a little taken back.
“There…” she begins but was cut off, by footsteps.
“Mummy” we see Conner, walking to her than looking at me.
“Why aren’t you in bed Con” April ask, he shrugs handing her a picture. She looks at it, her eyes go wide.
Conner looks back at me “are you my daddy” he ask, I stare at him in shock.
I look at April, who now has tears in her eyes.
