(A/N: Well, you guys seen the title so there might be a little 'feels moment' so prepare yourselves. Also, I did my best to write this one since it was both easy but hard to write at the same time. I really apologize if the story is too long and bad haha xD. If I overdid the story, then let me know so I can re-edit. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this scenario for the month of March and happy reading!)
Today has been quite strange.
I woke up first thing in the morning and thankfully, the sun rays that entered the window panes didn't wake me up this time.
I slowly got up and when I turned to the left side of my bed, Levi disappeared which is quite unusual since he's always by my side every morning during his day offs.
Plus, he only just got back from a two day meeting at the Capital - which so happens that he was staying there so he wouldn't go back and forth due to his schedule.
"Huh, where did Levi go?"
...
I showered and finally dressed up to my casual clothes before I head outside the office to proceed downstairs.
Levi doesn't seemed to be in his office either so I wonder where he went.
I greeted the cadets, who are passing by and chilling at the hallways, and went to the area where they store handwritten letters.
When I got there, I saw a letter that I've been expecting since yesterday and quickly grab it before it gets crushed with the rest of the pile.
From the front of the envelope, it had my mom's name on it and the date which was-
"Yesterday?", I said and tilted my head to the side.
Just when I was about to open the letter, I saw a familiar black raven hair male walking through the halls in a fast pace with some papers on his hands.
I perked up and decided to read the letter later.
"Good morning, Levi!", I called out and smiled.
When I finally approached him though, I noticed that he wasn't looking at me after I call out his name.
"Where have you been? Geez, I didn't know you had work to do during your day off", I said and just followed him by his side.
He didn't seem to listen since he's still not looking at me and this bothered me quite a bit.
"Levi?", I called out to him once more and tried poking his arm, "Something the matter?".
I tried tugging on his shirt as we walked but no response came at all.
"Say something", I kept talking to him and at the same time, having weird thoughts, "Why are you not looking at-"
"Heichou!"
Levi turned to look at the cadet who called his attention with papers on his hands too.
"I have some more!", said the cadet.
I sighed feeling a bit upset that he only responded at the cadet that called him out instead of his own wife.
"Thanks, just place them inside my office", Levi replied to the cadet, "You have my permission to enter".
The cadet nodded hastily and quickly head to his office.
"Hey, how come you get to reply to him and not me?", I pouted and tugged on his sleeve again.
Still no response and Levi just double checked his papers right in front of me like he didn't hear anything.
"Hey!", I said and tried raising my voice a bit so that he could notice my voice but his face remained cool and calm.
Dammit, why is he not talking to me?
How did it come to this?
"Sir!"
Another person called out to Levi and it was yet another cadet with a bunch of papers.
'Honestly, what's up with everyone and papers?!'
So many thoughts played with my head and to my expectation, Levi heard the cadet and gave them a nod.
"Good, call Cadet Jaeger and Arlert about the instructions that I gave them", said Levi, "And Cadet Springer and Brause too. They better not slack off or else".
The cadet nodded with a bit of fear and ran to the opposite direction of the hall.
My sigh this time was very heavy and filled with I-want-some-attention after being ignored again by my husband.
"Levi, why are you not talking to me-"
I was cut off when Levi went upstairs and this was the time I decided to stop on my tracks.
I wiped my sweat after keeping up with Levi's footsteps and thus, I decided to stop for a bit since he's in a busy mood.
'Geez, what's wrong with him today? I might as well try again until he talks to me'
TIME SKIP
Even with my determination, I still can't get Levi to speak to me.
Every time I find him in certain areas of the headquarters, our eyes still didn't meet and conversation was still not possible.
I had this gut feeling that maybe there's something bothering him that he can't seem to tell me at all.
I don't even know what that is but I have to keep trying.
Dinner time came and as usual, the mess hall is still lively as ever.
I'm all alone in my table since the twins just finished dinner and went with Eren and the others, my little Elliot is fast asleep at the kid's bedroom, and of course, Levi is nowhere to be found.
'He is still not talking to me', I thought to myself and drank all the soup from my bowl.
I got my tray and before I could give this to the assigned washer of today, I spotted Levi again outside the halls.
My instincts starting kicking in again and I immediately gave the tray to the assigned washer before running outside the mess hall.
"Levi!", I called out and ran to his side, "Hey...".
He's still walking and this time, he's holding something else but I can't tell what it is since its inside a bag.
"You've been acting weird lately, you know?", I started the conversation, "You can't look at me in the eye, you can't respond to my voice, and you're just responding to everyone else besides me".
He still respond and like this morning, we just keep walking through the halls but his speed of walking is a bit faster than earlier - like he's really on a hurry.
"Come on, talk to me. I'm your wife", I said and tried tugging his arm this time but it was no use because he's way stronger than me, "If there's something in your mind, tell me!".
I know saying these things over and over will piss him off knowing his personality and all (just like the previous two fights we had) but I want to know.
I want to know what's on his mind.
"If it's a problem that's been bothering you, then let me help you", I continued on, "If it's a sad memory that you can't just get rid off, then I'll lend you an ear and reassure you. If it's something...".
My voice was about to crack from what I'm about to say next since its been in my mind before dinner.
"I-If there's something that I made you feel this way, t-then...".
I can feel my tears filling up my eyes but I'm trying to resist it from flowing.
Just when I was about to talk to him again, he went to a room that is close to the hall and closed the door right in front of me after entering it.
'E-Eh?!'
Then I heard a click from the doorknob.
"Hey!!", I said and knocked on it, "Levi!!".
I knocked on the door a few times but nothing happen.
"Open the door! Am I the problem? Is that it?!", I raised my voice and now my eyes are now overwhelmed with tears, "Please, tell me. I...".
My spirits are slowly crushing after all the efforts I did to make him notice my presence and voice but I guess it's all a waste.
"...I-I don't know why are you doing this to me but...", I said in a shaky voice and eventually, went on my knees and leaned against the door, "I still love you...so much, my heichou".
.
.
.
.
I ended up waiting outside the door since I'm still not giving up.
But without realizing how much waiting I did, a few hours went by and it made me fall asleep with tears flowing down my cheeks which is already turning dry as time passed.
I slept soundly and since I had no covers, I was covering myself with my hands.
He wasn't like this whenever he's having problems in his mind.
I mean, I did give him alone time just so he could refresh his head but not to this extent that he would ignore me completely like I don't even exist.
He could've said "(Y/N), I need some time alone. I'll talk to you later after I collect my thoughts" so I can catch his drift just like he always did but I guess he didn't say anything like that at all.
While I was in my slumber, I kept having thoughts whether I did something to my own husband.
I tried to recall if I got eaten by a titan or something that made him very worried but none came.
I tried to recall if I accidentally yelled at him with anger whenever we got into a debate of something but none either.
The more I think about those thoughts, the more pain came in my head and heart.
I shifted in my sleep and little did I know, I was being carried from the floor but thanks to my deep slumber, I had no knowledge what's happening.
Elsewhere
"Agh..."
I'm finally awake from my long slumber that probably wasn't the best or the worse but for some reason, I'm laying on something...soft like fabric?
I slowly got up and groaned from my tiredness then when I re-adjusted and looked around my surroundings, I'm sitting on a picnic blanket - outside the headquarters.
"E-EH?!", I said and my heart started pumping, "How did I end up here?".
When I looked up, I saw a lot of paper cranes hanging on each branch of the big tree where Levi, the kids and I always stay during our day offs.
Not only that, there are even small light bulbs lighting up the scenery hanging on each branch as well - making the atmosphere more calming and somewhat beautiful - plus there are more paper cranes surrounding the picnic blanket.
'T-This is...beautiful but who could've-'
My thoughts stopped there when I felt something tugging my arm which made my body go to another direction.
"W-WOAH-"
I yelped and ended up crushing into something soft and warm.
Wait, this isn't a 'something'.
My eyes widened and when I looked up, I finally get to meet the eyes that I've always want to gaze at since this morning.
"L-Levi?", I said his name but my voice was a bit shaky from his sudden re-appearance.
He noticed the way I was looking at him and the way I spoke, so he immediately brought me into his warm arms.
"Sorry and...happy anniversary, (Y/N)"
I can feel my eyes welling up and without hesitation, I quickly hugged back before letting out my tears.
"I-Idiot, you don't know what I've been going through earlier", I said and lightly punched his arm - which he already expected but it didn't made him flinch, "I-I thought you're upset with me that I felt like a ghost earlier, you know?! Plus, I haven't seen you for few days!"
I slowly sobbed and tighten my grip before he could kiss the top of my head.
"I know, I sincerely apologize", he said and soothed my back, "Four eyes gave me this weird plan in order to surprise you properly which is ignoring you for the rest of the day. That way, you won't have any idea what we're doing - since you catch up pretty quick sometimes".
"I told her I wouldn't", he continued and wiped the tears forming on my eyes, "But she told me that if I can't do this, then the surprise wouldn't be effective".
He let out a deep sigh and looked at me again but with a bit more concern, "I guess her definition of 'surprise' doesn't go well with 'ignoring someone you really care about' since I feel bad for making you upset, tch".
"Levi..."
My expression changed drastically and I started biting my lip.
"So...you really didn't mean to ignore me like that?", I questioned him.
He nodded and I could've sworn he was biting his bottom lip earlier.
"Yes, but I got too damn clumsy that I probably took too far with this plan of hers", Levi said and huffed with a bit of annoyance, "And I didn't mean to slam the door in front of you too, its just that...".
He grabbed one of the paper cranes from the ground and showed it to me.
"All the paper cranes that I made were inside the room and I didn't want you to see it because that would ruin the surprise"
I could feel tears welling up again but this time for a different reason.
So that means, all the papers that Levi and the cadets have been carrying are for these cute origami cranes.
I got the crane from Levi and examined it curiosity.
"You made all of these?", I questioned - still looking at the origami and the rest that are hanging above me.
Levi scratched the back of his neck and said, "Well, if you remember the cadets who approached me this morning, they helped too since all the cranes that hang up here are one thousand of them".
One thousand?!
'Now that I think about it, they're a lot of them hanging on that tree plus some of them are on the ground'
"I read somewhere in the library that one thousand paper cranes represents good luck and happiness", Levi said and finally smiled at me, "Since I wanted our anniversary to be different this time, I wanted it to be this setting. Plus, the kids agreed with this too because they want us to be happy and blessed lovers and parents".
My heart has gone soft and I quickly wiped my tears before it overflows.
"I...don't know what to say..."
I had no words to express this moment but after hearing his reason of ignoring me, I'm very relieved.
Levi's expression lifted when he finally saw me smiling and I cupped his face so that he could look at me.
"I forgive you but seriously, be careful when you surprise people", I said and pouted, "But to be honest, what you did today really is effective. This is definitely a big surprise".
He smiled back and gently caressed one of my hands that's holding his cheeks.
"Thank you, (Y/N)", he said softly before kissing my hand softly, "I'll keep the surprises to a minimum from now on. I can't bare to see you upset anymore".
I giggled and kissed the tip of his nose.
"Oh and before I forget", said Levi before he let out a basket that has been hiding behind the tree this whole time, "I actually prepared this with the help of the kids as well".
My eyes widened when I found a small red velvet cake with three flowers decorated on it and one glass of red wine, along with two glasses.
I covered my mouth from amazement and kept looking at Levi and the food he just prepared.
"This is...", I said and my cheeks started glowing with excitement.
"I knew you would like this", he said and patted my head, "One of the cadets who are good in baking actually taught the kids and I on how to make this. It really took a while since I never baked a cake as exquisite as this".
I smiled widely and after recovering from earlier's dilemma, I cupped his face again and smashed my lips into his.
"What do I do to deserve a husband who is very strong, mysterious, and surprisingly loving?", I said before kissing both of his cheeks which made his cheeks glow pink.
"And what do I do to deserve a wife who is so kind, determined, loyal and beautiful, huh?", he said and pulled me closer to him before lifting my chin.
I laughed but then I remembered something.
"Oh yeah, where are the kids?", I questioned.
"They wanted us to be alone for tonight because tomorrow, it will be the second part of our anniversary which will be all of us in the family", he explained and gently caressed my chin, "I think they have surprise for us too".
I smiled just thinking about what our kids would give us for our anniversary.
Before I could I even speak, black raven male leaned in for another loving kiss until it became a small heated make-out session which last for almost a minute
"Happy anniversary, Levi", I said before getting some air from the heated sensation and leaned against him.
"And happy anniversary to you again, my wife", he said and kissed the top of my head before we could have our romantic anniversary under one thousand paper cranes.
