~ the Winter's Ball ~
Your POV
I found myself with the three Schuylers (like usual) up in Angelica's room. The ball was in a mere hour and we were finishing up our looks for the evening. I loved my dress quite a bit, but I could only hope Aaron liked it too.
(this but in your fav color! or ya can leave it the same it's up to you. you can also change anything you'd like, this is just the main idea!)
Eliza was helping curl my hair (or whatever works with your hair idk), fantasizing about her own man to court. I had come to think about trying to pair her up with Alexander. I was pretty sure he liked me, but him and Eliza? Perfect. All I had to do was make sure they at least made eye contact.
"You're so lucky, (N/N)! You already have someone who's a possible husband!"
I laughed. "'Husband' is a bit of a strong term, Betsy. I'd prefer to think of the word 'suitor'."
"I have to agree with her, (Y/N). At least you're allowed to pick yours. I already know Ma nor Pa want me picking someone," Angelica responded, laughing a bit.
"I suppose. Didn't you say you overheard rumors about a Mr. John Church?" I asked.
"I can only hope they were false," Angelica spoke.
Eliza curled my last strand of hair and I heard her step back. "Done! Take a (break) look, (N/N)!"
I glanced into the mirror, seeing myself and Eliza's beaming smile. I touched the bouncy ringlets of curls. "Wow! It's hard to see curls done this well! I'm impressed, Liza!"
She giggled, tucking a strand of dark hair behind her ear. "I'm glad you love it! Now it's time to tame your hair, Peggy!"
"Fineee. But be gentle!"
~
The next hour was spent doing the touch-ups. Needless to say, I was loving our new looks.
Soon, I started hearing faint chatter from downstairs and we took that as our cue to start making our way to the main event.
"My God, (Y/N), you'll have all the men after you looking like this!" Angelica exclaimed, laughing. "Aaron might have some competition!"
We all laughed. "Indeed I might. But unfortunately for them, I only have my sights on Aaron."
We talked quietly as we approached the stairs, finally stopping our chatter and putting on graceful smiles.
As the sisters and I descended the stairs, the room went a tad quieter as people watched us. I couldn't help but giggle a bit at the awe-struck eyes and smiles (I couldn't ignore a good amount of people watching me; I kept forgetting how much... different I looked here). We reached the last stair, and the ball truly began.
Off the bat, Angelica was already off dazzling the room with her wits, and Peggy was using her outgoing nature to joke around. I found myself looking for the middle Schuyler, and much to my delight, she had spotted Alexander. Unfortunately, he hadn't spotted her yet. I watched as she wandered the room, trying to get his attention, when there was a tap on my shoulder.
I turned to see Aaron. To my surprise, he was wearing a blue revolutionary jacket. He sent me a warm smile and I returned the gesture, motioning to his uniform. "I wasn't aware of this, Aaron," I said in a teasing manner.
"Not even a hello? Unfortunate. I was just about to compliment you as well," he responded, an amused look in his eyes.
I looked around. "Well, there are plenty of other men here who I'm sure would be glad to talk to me." Sure enough, there were a handful of men looking at me, wondrous looks in their eyes and kind smiles on their lips.
As if on cue, a charming tune started playing from the band. Aaron looked at me. "There won't be a need for them. Care to dance?" He held out his hand.
I pretended to think a moment, before taking it. "May as well."
One of his arms snuck around my waist as we joined the other pairs on the floor. I rested one arm over his shoulder while our hands that were held in each other's stayed that way as we effortlessly merged into the crowd.
I looked at Aaron, who looked down at me. He went to say something but the music called for otherwise as he twirled me around.
"You know, you're not half bad at ballroom dancing," I teased.
Aaron chuckled. "I could say the same to you."
While I wasn't from this time (not that he needed to know), I used to love to take my own time to practice the dancing from this time (usually with S/N, much to our amusement). So I was actually pretty good at it.
"Why thank you, kind sir."
He only shook his head, grinning. As the music went on, there was a light, easy flowing conversation between us. I couldn't help but notice all the times he'd look at me, thinking I didn't notice. The love-struck look in his eyes was all I needed to see.
When the song ended, we went off to the side. I was hoping another perfect dance song to come on. We continued talking amongst ourselves as the time ticked by. I had seen Eliza and Alexander dancing together occasionally, and even Peggy and John, much to my surprise. It was a charming night indeed.
~
The ball was finally coming to its close. Aaron and I had just exited the floor after another dance as I saw people exchange goodbyes to one another. I figured I should've probably started saying goodbyes to Aaron when he spoke up first.
"So, I suppose this brings our time to a close. War is emerging yet again, sadly."
I nodded. "Indeed."
"But, I had a question for you, my (Y/N)."
"Oh? Go on."
"Would you give me the honor of being able to not only write to you after this ball, but court you as well?"
I wasn't entirely surprised, so I pretended to think- much to his dismay and nerves. After a prolonged moment, I nodded, smiling. "I'd love to give you the honor."
A smile crossed his face when a familiar outgoing voice called my name.
"(N/N)! We must be heading upstairs now!" Peggy instructed.
"Okay Peggy! I'll be there in a minute!"
I turned back to Aaron, who seemed a bit disappointed I had to leave. I giggled, catching him by surprise by pecking his lips. "Well you heard the woman! I must be on my way!"
I turned away from a flush Aaron and started walking over to Peggy, who had an amused look in her sparkling eyes. I turned back to Aaron about halfway.
"You know this address by the way! Write to me soon; I'll be waiting for it!"
Aaron nodded sheepishly and I turned to Peggy, both of us giggling. It was the start of something wonderful indeed.
