"LISTEN TO ME!"
Shyly smiling, I look up into the eyes of a disgruntled customer.
"I'm sorry ma'am, how may I help you?" I try to look calm, but her expression makes me itch.
Why is she looking at me like that? Like I'm some sort of insect- with a stale grimace on her Botox- filled face.
I start to fidget,
I count to four,
I take her items;
I try not to stare
at the pink, lacey underwear,
she places infront of me.
I count the pairs.
One two three,
No four
I keep my facade
It's okay.
"Will that be all ma'am?"
She says yes and turns to pay
And I can't help but say,
Are you sure you don't want more
Add one to equal four?
She shouts, "What's wrong with you!?"
I laugh and turn away
Should I answer?
I don't know what to say
So I say nothing
Except from, "Have a good day!"
And that's how my life goes,

An irregular pattern.
My mother said,
"No woman will ever love you"
She called me a freak,
An abomination.
Inside I cheered
For she did not say man
Now my mother's far away
