Onika's POV
"Jaylin, hurry up! We gotta get you to school!" I said. This girl was really taking her good ass time.
"Coming!"she said as she came out of the guest room with her backpack already on.
"We're not leaving just yet I just needed you out here." I said causing her to take off her backpack and set it by the door.
"Can I get some breakfast then?"she asked as she sat at the island.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"I really just want some cereal." I nodded my head before opening the pantry and grabbing the cereal. I sat it on the counter and then went into the refrigerator for milk, but I couldn't find it. The last person who had the milk was Robyn and that was a couple days ago. I didn't see an empty carton in the recycling bin.
I furrowed my eyebrows and began opening cabinets all over, finally finding it in the spice cabinet.
"What the hell?" I mumbled to myself. I took off the cap and smelled it, which made me gag. Jaylin hopped off of the stool and took it from me. She began to pour the curdled milk in the sink with a look of disgust on her face.
"ROBYN!" I yelled, to no answer. I went into my room and found her sprawled out on my bed asleep with her mouth wide open. I crawled onto the bed and placed my hand firmly over her mouth. About 30 seconds later, her eyes flew open.
"Man what the hell, Onika!" She said in frustration.
"Why the hell did I find my milk in the spice cabinet?" I asked.
She frowned at me sleepily.
"I thought I put it in the fridge." She said.
"Well you didn't. Jaylin's in there pouring cheese out of the carton right now. I told you to stop smoking weed and coming over to my house!"
"Normally I'm conscious, I don't know what happened that day." She said as she slowly sat up.
"I'll tell you what happened. They laced your shit." I said aggressively.
"My bad I won't do it again, sheesh." She said before she laid back down and went back to sleep.
I rolled my eyes and walked out of the room. Jaylin was sitting on the couch watching the proud family.
"Come on Jaylin we'll go have breakfast at the diner and then I'll take you to school." I said as I slipped on Robyn's slides and grabbed my keys off of the counter. Jaylin turned off the tv and grabbed her lunch out of the fridge and walked to the door.
"Bye Uncle Robyn!" She yelled at the top of her lungs like I don't have neighbors.
Robyn came out of my room, rubbing her eyes.
"Where y'all going so early?" She asked sleepily.
"To the diner for breakfast since you ruined the milk, there better be a new carton when I get back." I said.
"Bring me something back." She said.
"Fat chance." I replied before I opened the front door and walked out with Jaylin following closely behind.

Jaylin's POV
Auntie Nika pushed me into the door of the classroom that I didn't want to go into.
"Why can't I just stay with Uncle Robyn?" I asked with puppy dog eyes.
"Because...you'll never learn anything, especially not with Robyn. I want you to go in there and be you, okay? I promise I'll be back at the end of the day, alright?" She said as she crouched down to my level and opened her arms for a hug.
"Okay...I'll see you later." I said and ran into her arms.
"I love you." She said.
"Love you too Auntie Nika."
She walked back out of the room and gave me a wave before she disappeared around the corner. Today was gonna be a long day for me.
"Hi Jaylin. I'm Ms.Smith. Let's go get you a cubby." She said with a big smile. I gave her the most unamused look I could.
She showed me where my hook was and I put my backpack on it.
"When's lunch?" I asked. She laughed, I didn't see what's funny.
"I'll let you know. Why don't you go take a seat on the alphabet rug with the other kids, Okay? You'll make some friends I just know it." She said as she shooed me over to the rug. She was a little bit more happy then I was used to. Normally I'm with Auntie Nika and Uncle Robyn and they argue like old people.
As I walked over to the rug I saw Kai's familiar dimples. I noticed he was sitting with some girl. I walked over to him and crossed my arms.
"So this is what we're doing now?" I asked.
"Jaylin? You're in my class?" He asked in shock.
I just nodded my head and went to sit on the other side of the rug by myself.
"I feel you don't wanna be here either." Some girl said as she sat next to me.
"Not really." I said looking down at the rug.
"I don't either. First grade is so unnecessary. We should just go to second grade."
"You're so right. I like you." I said looking up at her.
"My name is Sierra." She said.
"Jaylin."

Sierra was sitting with me at the table for lunch. She told me everything she knew about all of our classmates. We were laughing about a joke she made about Ms.Smith, when Kai came over and pulled out a chair across from me.
"Hi Jaylin." He said shyly.
I picked up my juice box and took a sip without saying anything to him.
"You know Kai?" Sierra asked.
"Sadly. He's my ex boyfriend."
"Is it because he was holding hands with Sarah because I saw that too."
"I'm sorry Jay." Kai said, flexing his dimple.
"Don't call me that." I said as I took a bite out of my sandwich.
"Cyn is coming to pick me up today. We can have a play date over at her house so I can make it up to you."
"I'll see. Bye now." I said, shooing him away.
At the end of the day, I sat on the sidewalk waiting for Auntie Nika to come pick me up. I recognized her car, swung my backpack over my shoulder and lifted myself off of the curb. I opened the door and slid into the backseat.
"Hey Auntie Nika." I said tiredly.
"Hi Jay, how'd your first day go?" She asked.
"Meh. I met this girl named Sierra, she's pretty nice. Kai's in my class too." I said as I put my seatbelt on.
"That must be good to know where your boyfriend is." She said as she pulled away from the school.
"Not really. We broke up. He's a...what did uncle Robyn call it? A...hose?" I said as I scrunched up my face.
"A what?" She asked.
"I don't know but he has this in school girlfriend her name is Sarah. He had the nerve to invite me over for a play date. I'm not stupid." I said.
"So...do you want to go?" Auntie Nika asked.
"Oh I'm going. Just because I know it'll make Sarah mad." I said handing her the little piece of paper that Kai wrote the address on,while we were at a red light.
"You know Jaylin, you're very smart for your age."
"Thank you. I can tell because half of his letters are backwards. I'm happy I came towards the end of the school year so I won't have to deal with this much longer."
Onika's POV
I chuckled at Jaylin. Seems like she had a more dramatic day than I ever had in elementary school and she's only in Kindergarten. I put the address in the gps and it took me to an average sized house. Jaylin and I got out and walked to the door. I knocked and Jaylin profusely rang the doorbell.
A minute later, the door swung open and I came face to face with a surprised...Golden Doll?
"Hey...Cyn, was it?" I asked.
"Yeah. Hey Onika." She said with a slight smile. We just stood there looking at each other before Jaylin pushed past.
"Excuse me I have revenge play date to get over with. Kai!" She said as she walked into the house.
"Come on in."she said and led me to the living room.
"Trouble in paradise?" She asked as I sat on the couch.
"Oh yeah she was fuming when I came to pick her up. How'd you know?" I asked.
"Kai had this stressed look on his face when I came to get him. You could tell he messed something up. I thought he colored outside of the lines or something." She said with a giggle.
"Jaylin can be kind of scary when she's mad." I explained.
"I bet. You want something to drink?"
"Uh...water is fine." I said.
She nodded and left the room. I looked around. She came back with a water and handed it to me. I took a sip.
"I meant to ask this earlier but, you got a familiar accent, where are you from?" She asked as she sat down next to me.
"New York. Queens to be exact." I said.
"I'm from New York too! I was just there a couple months ago!"
"That's dope. I like you even more." I said with a smile, knowingly flexing my dimples.
"You like me?" She said with a smirk as she raised an eyebrow.
"A-as a friend." I said quickly.
"I DON'T CARE. YOU CAN'T HAVE TWO GIRLFRIENDS. IF YOU WANT TWO GIRLFRIENDS, I CAN STRAIGHTEN MY HAIR EVERY OTHER WEEK!" Jaylin yelled at the top of her lungs causing me to jump and my phone fell out of my lap.
Cyn and I both reached down for my phone at the same time and bumped foreheads. We looked up at the same time and our lips connected.
Oop. I told y'all golden doll would be a mess.
This chapter was kind of a filler but I needed to do it...you'll see why in the sequel.
