"Take another picture! I look so ugly in the last one." Jennie says handing the phone back to her friend, Rose.
"Come on, Jennie. You two look great on every picture. This is the hundredth picture I take. Literally!"
"Come on just one more!" She pleads.
Rose rolls her eyes, "Fine. Only one more because I have to take pictures with my date as well."
"Okay! Jimin your hand right here I've already told you." Jennie says placing my hand around her waist.
"Smile!" Rose says holding up the phone.
I make myself smile once again. "Okay that's it." Rose replies giving Jennie the phone back.
"Thank you, Rosie! You're the best." Jennie gushes scrolling through the pictures.
"When are we going in? It's getting kind of dark out here." I ask uninterested. The mosquitos around us are annoying me and this mini photo shoot is too.
There's couples walking down the flower hallway to take their official prom picture. "Which one is better? This one or this one?"
"That one."
"That one? Are you sure? My smile looks kind of weird on that one."
"Okay the other one then."
"You didn't even say anything about my dress." Jennie says with a sulky expression.
"It looks great." I reply admiringly looking at it. Yoonji would've looked so beautiful in this piece.
"Aww! Thank you!" She says wrapping her arms around my neck.
I wrap my arms around her waist and sigh quietly. This is going to be a long night. I should be at the beach house with my friends instead of prom, but here I am anyways.
And all for what? To hurt Yoonji's feelings? To be petty and self-centered like she said?
"Hey, do you wanna maybe come over to Jisoo's house after prom? Just for a little bit. I know you're going to hang out with your friends."
"Uh sure yeah."
"Yay! Let's go take that professional picture over there."
I roll my eyes as Jennie holds my hand leading me down the pathway. Great, more pictures.
After posing for the picture we hand our tickets to the person in the front door to get in. The place they picked for prom is pretty fancy.
There's eye catching chandeliers on the ceilings and red carpet on the stairs that lead up. "Come on I can hear the music!" Jennie squeals as we go up the stairs.
When we get up the stairs we hear the loud music inside the room. There's purple flowers hanging from the ceilings and all the tables have purple tablecloths.
There's candles on the tables and fancy silverware placed beside them. I completely feel out of place here.
We take a seat in a table where all of Jennie's friends are already sitting down. "Guess what we sneaked in?" Lisa asks pulling out a small tequila bottle from her bra.
"I sneaked some in too." Jennie says quietly laughing.
"Great, there's alcohol." I say relieved. I could not survive tonight without a drop of alcohol. "We got more when we run out. Just be careful not to get caught." Jisoo says.
Without thinking about it twice I pour some alcohol into the empty glass cups that are on the table.
"Whoa, Jimin, take it slow it's tequila." Jennie says as soon as I chug down the liquor. It burns my throat and it literally feels like my stomach is on fire.
It's a better feeling than my emptiness to be honest.
"I got this. I'm a good drinker I last long."
"No way." Lisa says looking towards the entrance.
Jennie and I both turn to see what she's referring to. My mouth drops when I see Yoonji in a yellow prom dress.
It's almost identical to, Jennie's. It has flowers and the pale yellow is very alike to Jennie's bottom skirt.
She looks so beautiful. God, she looks beautiful without trying. My heart starts beating like crazy.
I feel like a little kid opening up Christmas presents. Every part of me wants to run to her and tell her how amazing she truly looks.
My lips start curving up into a smile until Yugyeom walks in behind her. He extends his arm and she takes it walking to a table.
My smile turns into a deep frown of disgust. "What the hell? She copied me! Our dresses are almost identical!" Jennie screams furiously.
"They do look alike." Jisoo clarifies looking both at Jennie and Yoonji. "She's going to hear me." Jennie says getting up from the table.
I grab Jennie's arm stopping her from going anywhere. "Jennie, don't cause a scene. Its just a coincidence that the dresses look alike."
"No she copied it!" Jennie says her eyes filling up with tears. She's so angry she's shaking.
"And how would she know you were wearing that huh?"
"I don't know!"
"Exactly, so you can't go start a fight for something that just happened. Do you want to get kicked out?"
Jennie sits back down beside me pulling away from my grip. "You're just defending her because she's your ex."
"She was never my girlfriend so she's not my ex."
"Don't act like you two didn't have a thing. Don't you remember you asked her out to prom first? I haven't forgotten that. The fact that you just defended her proves to me that you still care about her."
"What? You're saying nonsense! I'm just stopping you from embarrassing yourself and starting a fight over a prom dress! It's ridiculous, Jennie."
She turns away from and I look around to see that all her friends had been listening to our fight.
Once they see me look they quickly look away and pretend to be talking. I poor some more liquor on the cup and chug it fast.
Yoonji and Yugyeom are talking. Even though I want to look away I can't. She laughs and it feels like I've been kicked in the gut.
She used to laugh with me like that. Now he's the one making her smile.
"Shit people are coming hide the liquor!" Lisa says.
A girl wearing an extravagant red prom dress walks to our table with a huge grin. "Hey guys! So we're voting for prom king and queen and I have the slips right here!"
She hands out the piece of paper with the names that are nominated. When I'm reading down the list I see my name and Jennie's.
"I voted for you two by the way." The girl says with a giggle. "I will be back to collect them okay?"
Then she walks away to the next table. "I didn't even know we were nominated." I mumble.
"Me either. Wow, that's so cool. Can you imagine if we win?" Jennie suddenly looks happy again and she immediately puts a check make beside our names.
"You better vote for us you guys." Jennie says with a grin.
I look towards Yoonji's direction. She has the slip on her hands. She must've sensed I was looking at her because she looks up.
Our eyes meet for a few seconds. She quickly looks away putting down the sheet of paper. I take out the bottle and pour me some more liquor.
I don't know what hurts more, the burning liquor going down my throat, or the look on Yoonji's face when she read my name and Jennie's on the paper.
