~ November of the school year ~
Your POV
School has been going amazingly! The girls are my closest friends, and I've even made friends with the four boys I saw at the beginning of the year. They've apparently dubbed themselves the Hamilsquad? Who am I to judge anyways.
Along with growing friendships... a crush has also been growing. My crush on the beautiful and strong Angelica Schuyler was only growing with each passing day. So far, only Peggy knew about it, who was pretty excited about it. She had promised to help me with my crush if I helped her with hers; John Laurens (can't help but throw in some Jeggy). My job was already done. He liked her as well, so it was ten times easier to get them together. They were literally the cutest ever. But that's besides the point.
I faced a problem. A growing one. Charles decided he'd keep his word and come back for me. At first it was only verbal... but now it's slowly increasing the more I fight back. Nobody knows anyways, it's not like they need to know (nobody needs to kn-- wait wrong time for that). That was my current problem...
Now, I was pinned against the locker by Charles. "You better be here tomorrow, freshman," he spat.
I nodded quickly, and he let go of my arms. I picked up my fallen backpack, hurrying down the hall. I was already dreading tomorrow afternoon. I shouldn't have been though... it's been happening for over a month. Little had I known though someone had been watching.
~ the next day: last period ~
Last period, chorus rehearsal with Mrs. Soo. The bell would ring any minute. We were running through one of our songs for an upcoming concert.
Brrrring!
"And that's the end of today! See you guys tomorrow!" Mrs. Soo exclaimed, smiling.
We said our goodbyes, heading out of the class. Instead of following the wave of chorus kids like I usually would, I found myself walking the opposite direction; walking to the abandoned hallway Charles forced me to be at. If I didn't? Someone would be getting hurt. Probably me...
Yet I decided to take my chances and walk slower than usual.
~
Sure enough, there was Charles. As soon as he saw me his eyes narrowed. "You're late," he hissed.
I swallowed nervously. "Sorry!" I squeaked, trying to act like I was late on accident.
He walked over to me, grabbing me by my shirt collar and slamming me against the locker. The sound resonated harshly, and I winced at both the contact and the sound.
Charles's dark eyes were filled with a fiery anger, something I always noticed. I always wondered why he was like this. "How about I teach you a lesson for being late?"
I didn't say anything, but I knew I was shaking underneath his towering figure, his fist still clenching the fabric of my sweater.
I felt a sharp pain in my cheek. I winced. He let go of me, only to hit my face again. I stumbled, trying to clutch the wall of lockers for support.
I felt my legs kicked from under me and hit the ground. I looked up to see Charles hovering over me, a smug smirk on his face. I was trying to prepare myself for another hit.
"Charles Lee!"
Charles's head snapped up, looking for the source of the familiar female voice. I turned my head, seeing none other than Angelica Schuyler running down the hall.
"A-Angie?!"
"Back away from her, Charles!" Angie growled.
I felt someone grab my arms roughly and drag me back. Charles had one hand gripping my arm tightly, and shoved me behind him so Angie couldn't get me and so I couldn't escape.
"Not this time, Angelica," he replied harshly.
Angie walked right up to him, her dark brown eyes blazing. Sure, she was slightly shorter, but I knew what she was capable of. She shoved him forcefully and he stumbled back, letting go of me.
Angie pulled me up quickly, keeping a tight hold on my hand as we ran outside. As soon as we got outside, I was enveloped in a tight hug by the junior. I hugged her back, unable to note my current emotions.
When we pulled away, her hands held my shoulders. "How much has he done to you? How long?!" Her worry was clearly laced in her voice and in her chocolate eyes.
I stumbled over my words. "W-well... um... o-over... a month?" I managed to get out.
"And I only noticed this yesterday?! How did I--"
"Angie! I'm fine I promise! I'm just a little sore after today."
She pulled me into another hug. "God... I'm sorry, (N/N). I don't want to see you getting hurt... Lee just doesn't think boys and girls are equal! I..." For once, Angie couldn't finish her sentence.
I pulled away slowly. "You what..?"
She sighed, running a hand through her curly, dark hair. "Promise me nothing will change between us..?"
I nodded. "Why would anything change between us?"
"Because... God why is this proving so difficult?!"
I grabbed one of her hands, squeezing it reassuringly. "Calm down, Ang. Just speak."
"I.. I really like you. More than a friend."
I was lost for words. "I.."
She pulled her hand away. "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have--" I cut her off by hugging her.
"I like you too," I said, smiling.
A shocked look appeared across Angie's face, then a smile. "You do?"
"Yeah!"
"Oh thank God!" she exclaimed, hugging me back.
We pulled away a minute later. "Would you wanna hang out with me, Liza, and Pegs?" Angie asked.
I nodded. "Sure!"
Angie grabbed my hand excitedly, intertwining our fingers as we started walking off the school property.
I knew Angie would do her best to keep me away from Charles, and I felt happy, excited. I knew no matter what Charles Lee said, we were all equal here. Nothing he said would change anything.
