~ one month later ~
Your POV
First Alex, then Laf. I didn't know what to feel anymore. I was worried, concerned, frightened. Seeing as Herc was at his shop for work, I had no idea what he was up to. Recently though, he'd been staying later. John and I thought he was just working on longer term projects. Since Herc always brought his phone with him, we couldn't check that either. We were certainly suspicious. I was more afraid though than suspicious.
John... I had no idea.
Now however, John and I were waiting for Herc to come home from work. We were just watching (F/S), chatting every now and again. I checked my phone. 7:32.
Click.
"I'm back!" Herc's voice called. I watched him pop into my view, putting his phone on the table.
"Hey Herc. How was work?" I asked.
"Busy for once," Herc answered, chuckling.
"That's good," John said. I could tell he was on edge with Herc.
I smiled slightly and continued watching (F/S). Herc was about to speak up when he face-palmed. "I left something at the shop! I'll be back!"
He wasn't sitting, so all he did was quickly walk back out.

I looked down from the TV and to the abandoned phone on the coffee table. I looked at John, and he looked down too.
John reached for Herc's phone, leaning back when he held onto it. He turned on the phone, and the lock-screen caught my eye. It was the day we had gone to the beach.
I was on Laf's back, holding up two peace signs and sticking my tongue out at Alex, the one taking the photo. Laf was grinning, and John held up a one peace sign, looking like he was still laughing at something. Herc just stood there with his arms crossed, a playful grin on his face.
I felt my eyes watering at the picture, and John looked over at me, grabbing my hand and squeezing it reassuringly. I leaned against his arm, putting our intertwined hands on his lap.
John unlocked Herc's phone and clicked Messages. None of Herc's recent messages seemed suspicious, except for one at the bottom.
'Alex
Good luck. You'll need it.'
I poked John. "Click Alex's contact, Johnny."
John clicked Alex's contact and we watched the messages fill up the screen. John scrolled up a bit until we found a good place to start.
Alex: You know you're gonna have to tell them sooner or later about your plans, Herc.
Herc: Yeah yeah. I know
A: So how're you gonna do it?
H: Why do you think I texted you in the first place?
A: Riiiight. You need help.
H: Yes. Now please help me out. A man can only take so much
John scoffed and narrowed his eyes at the last comment, while I only held John's hand tighter. John rubbed his thumb against my hand and I rested my head on his shoulder as we read Alex's different answers. Herc didn't like any of them.
H: at this rate I'm just going to not tell them
A: Jeez Herc. At least be respectable. They're going through a lot y'know.
H: and I'm not?
A: Didn't say that.
H: oh lord. you know what you tried. I'll figure something out myself
A: You better tell them, Herc.
H: It's none of you concern if I do or do not, Alex
A: Doesn't mean I still don't care for their well-being
H: Mhm. Bye Alex
A: Bye.
A: And also...
A: Good luck. You'll need it.
"What the hell is he even planning?" John asked.
"No idea. Let's just wait for him to come home. We can talk then," I answered.
John nodded, shutting Herc's phone off and placing it back on the table. John let go of my hand and I laid down, resting my head on his lap. John ran his fingers through my hair as we continued watching (F/S) in a peaceful silence.
~ skip a few hours ~
I pulled out my phone tiredly, checking the time. 11:31. I yawned. "It's almost midnight, Johnny. Can we go sleep?"
"Yeah we can."
John picked me up and we walked to the bedroom, leaving Herc's phone on the coffee table. When we got in, John tossed my me (F/C) pajamas and we changed.
I laid down on our bed, feeling John get in next to me. I turned to face him, and he pulled me closer, keeping his arm draped over my waist. I felt John's forehead rest on the top of my head and I smiled softly as I felt sleep taking over.
"Goodnight, Freckles," I mumbled.
"Goodnight, chickadee."
I fell asleep within a few minutes, letting the peace of sleep consume me.
~ couple hours later ~
I woke up to a shuffling noise. I removed John's arm from my waist slowly, and sat up, checking the clock on the bedside table next to me. 1:46.
I turned back to look over John when I saw a familiar tall figure bent over a shadowy blob, which I presumed was a bag. It looked like he was packing. I tried to rub the sleep from my eyes.
"...Herc?"
