I love and hate my job at the same time. More so the latter because most days I want to stab my self in the eye with how much desk work I'm doing. You'd think I was a secretary with the type of shit they have me doing.
Walking into my job today seemed like any other day. I walked straight to my desk with my coffee in hand but stopped and looked around because it seemed like majority of my co-workers weren't even at their desk.
I put my coffee and my bag down as I start to settle my self. One of only co-workers I'm close to, Ruby, came to my desk in a fluster and grabbed my arm.
"Nadia you have to freaking come and see this!" She said as she continued to drag me along.
Ruby was from Texas and had been working at ESPN now for three years. I met her on my first day as she was the one showing me the ropes. Our personalities just click off the bat.
"Slow down Ruby, it's too early for this" I say whining
"Oh you're gonna thank me later"
We come to a stop at a desk that was heavily crowded with co-workers gawking at the computer screen. As I walk closer to the computer screen to take a look, I'm shook to the core.
My mouth hung wide open "mmhm your very welcome" Ruby said smugly whilst standing next to me.
Right on the computer screen was a very naked and muscular Hunter Reece posing for the ESPN body issue.
He shouldn't be allowed to look that good?!
"God took extra time on him I'll tell you that now" Shanae from advertisement said getting a lot of nods and "mmhm's" out of everyone crowding the desk.
"That's totally photoshopped" Jim bitterly said
"Jim you wish you looked that good" Shanae said as Jim scoffed and walked away.
It was only when we heard the elevator open and Mr.Corver's foot steps, footsteps we all learned to recognize, were heard did we all disperse and head back to our desks as if nothing happened.
As Ruby and I are walking back towards our desks she looks to me and talks lowly "sooo, what did you think?" She said smirking "freaking hot right, it should be a sin to look that fine I mean am I right?!"
"I mean he looked alright" I shrugged as I went to sit at my desk as Ruby stayed standing by my door. I completely fucking lied he looked more then alright
"Ain't that a damn lie, the way you was looking at that screen I don't buy it" she said grinning
"He's like my friend so I'd be weird to look at-" I immediately stopped talking as I realized I said too much
"Wait hold up..you know him?!" Ruby whisper yells
"More like acquaintances- ish...of sorts...you know what we should go back to work" I said nervously
"You've met him, oh my sweet Jesus! Now I gotta hear this! What's he like in person?" She said eagerly sitting in the chair across from me "spill it now"
"He's-" I was cut of by Mr. Corver walking into my office space.
"Ruby why aren't you at your desk" Mr. Corver asks
"I was just-"
"To your desk now Ruby" he says sternly. She immediately gets up and walks out with a mumbled "sorry sir"
"And Ms. Washington...get back to work" he says as he walks out
"Yes Mr. Corver" I say quickly as I go to turn on my computer to begin working
Two hours into getting my work done, Ruby stops by my office door
"Come on its break time, Lunch is on me" she says grinning
I put my computer on sleep mode and turn to her "where are we headed to?" I said getting and grabbing my purse
"The Tavern"
"Oh she got moneyyyy" I say laughing. The Tavern was a great restaurant but just a bit expensive
"Shut up and let's go" she's says trying to hold in her laugh
Taking her car we arrived at the location and immediately were handed menus and seated.
"Can I start you off with a drink?" the waiter asks
"I'll have water with a bit of lemon" Ruby speaks up first. Then the waiter turns to me "and you?"
"I'll have the same"
"Ok I'll be back in a moment with your drinks" she says as she walks away
"So please tell me how you and Mr. Reece became "acquaintances" cause I wanna know" she said making air quotes with her fingers for emphasis
"We met on a plane and I asked him for his charger and we talked that's about it" I say nonchalantly no wanting to give to much away
"I know damn well there's more to it but I'm not even gonna press you about it, just know I'm real suspect right now" she says glaring at me in a playful manner
I started laughing a little as the waiter came back to our table and place the water down
"Have you chosen what you want to order or should I come back" the waiter asks
"Oh no we'll order now. I'll have the chicken pesto panini with Caesar salad and she'll have...." Ruby trailed off looking at me waiting for me to say what I wanted
I wasn't prepared, so in a slight panic I just quickly said "I'll have the same"
The waiter nodded and said "ok it should be ready soon" then walked away
"You know who I didn't see at work today? Dana" Ruby sips her drink and nods at me
"That's cause she was fired" Ruby said after sipping
"Why'd she get fired? She was a total bitch but still" I questioned
Dana was the devil, she walked around the office like she was hot shit turned me off right off the bat. I wasn't the only one who thought so, majority of the people at the office couldn't stand her either.
"Here's the tea" she says excitedly "supposedly she's been making sexual advances toward Mr. Corver and I guess he had enough of her unprofessionalism"
"What?!" I said shook and laughed
"Yep, that's what I heard. I could be wrong though, but I heard they already hired someone to take her spot"
"Really? Do you know who?" I ask as the waiter came back and the food was placed in front of us. I said a quick thank you to the waiter and tuned back into the conversation.
"Yeah I saw her when they were showing her a tour of the place, her name's Laurel"
"Let's hope she's not anything like Dana" I said as I took a bite of my food.
A/N: I know things are moving a little slow in this book but I'm doing that purposefully cause I really wanna build to the moment....every chapter is a surprise for me as it is for you. This book isn't planned out literally every chapter is spontaneous (except the first like 4 chapters). So if y'all see me take long to update it's probably cause I'm stuck thinking about what to write in the next chapter 😂😂
