w i n t e r

he reminds me of peppermint sweets and excited kids
and cozy night with no light
but a single string of fairy lights

but also of dark nights and dead trees
and that coldness that leaves a chill to the bone

but he had fun in the morning
with the white blanket of snow
so I forget that long dark nights
and look forward to the mint smell and fairy lights every year
