Chapter 27

Conner stepped out from the crowd towards Murphy, an emotionless look on his face. That look quickly turned to that of anger and frustration at Murphy's reaction. Murphy couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head.

"Conner, remember you haven't fought with him in a month. Just make sure you know what you're getting into first." Jack said, putting his hands behind his back and standing with his legs apart, smirking slightly.

Conner nodded, then walked further to Murphy.

The electricity had returned to the camp within the past few days, mainly during the time that they had been trying to find the 100. There were tall lights now, like the ones that people would have often seen in football fields back in the 2000's. He could see Conner move clearly, and Murphy still couldn't help but laugh.

"You realize that this time, my hands aren't tied right? You can't just punch me and not expect me to kill you for it."

Jack sighed. "Murphy, this is a chance for you to blow off some steam. Not to kill someone."

Murphy groaned, then sighed and nodded. "Fine. I won't kill him." He glanced at Conner with an eyebrow raised. "But I'm not gonna take it easy on him either."

Murphy really wasn't scared, not at all. He was moreso taken by his anger and feeling of superiority over Conner.

Conner stood in front of him, taking off his jacket and leaving himself in only a dark brown t-shirt as he stared at Murphy with a cold and dark look on his face. Frankly, Murphy didn't care.

Eve reached up behind him, slipping his jacket off his shoulders and pulling it off him. "Be careful." She mumbled in his ear, frowning slightly.

He smiled at her before turning his head and catching her by surprise and kissing her gently. He pulled away before leaning his forehead against hers. "Don't worry, I will. It's him that you should be worrying about."

"Are you sure about that?"

"I'm pretty sure we both know who should be the scared one, judging by what's happened in the past while. Don't you think?"

She smiled sadly. "Still. I don't want you to get hurt like I did."

He shook his head. "I won't. I'll be fine."

She noddded, and he turned around to look towards Jack.

"Begin."

Conner stalked towards Murphy, while Murphy just stayed still, now about ten feet in front of Eve. Jack was to their right, and was watching with an eyebrow raised with a very curious look on his face.

Conner was now a foot in front of him, and sent his right fist at Murphy's left shoulder. Murphy swung his shoulder back and side-stepped to the right, causing Conner to miss him entirely and stumble forwards.

Murphy was now behind Conner, who seemed disoriented for a moment before quickly spinning around and sending his fist directly at Murphy's face. Murphy once again side-stepped, causing Conner to nearly fall when he didn't feel the impact of his fist hitting Murphy's face.

He had gotten frustrated now, and sent his fist once again at Murphy's face. Except, this time, Murphy didn't move.

His hand shot up, and Conner's knuckles slammed into Murphy's palm. Murphy placed his fingers on the back of Conner's hand, digging his fingertips into his fist. He was literally pressing into his hand so hard that Conner's entire hand was turning white.

Conner stared up at him in horror as Murphy sent his fist forwards, making Conner's arm literally bend all the way back so that his spine was also bent. He began to breath more heavily, sweat now dripping down his forehead.

Before he realized what was happening, Murphy had kicked Conner's left leg so that he was now on his knees in front of him.

Seconds later, Murphy had moved his hand to the back of Conner's head, pressing his middle and index finger into the base of his neck. Conner was knocked out within seconds.

Murphy let him go, sighing softly and walking back over to Eve. The 100 were literally in shock, their jaws open and their eyes wide. They were certainly surprised at how fast he had done that. Jack and Eve, of course, were not.

Eve was smiling at him, and he wrapped his arm around her waist as he stood beside her. Jack grinned at him, while Eve went up on her toes and whispered in his ear.

"I bet you scared him enough that he won't come near you again."

Murphy chuckled. "Let's hope so. I don't know if I'll just hurt him next time."

Jack moved in front of the 100, smiling as he paced back and forth. "When we don't wish to kill our opponents, we use their weaknesses against them instead. Conner's, for example, were his anger and lack of control or patience. He went in too quickly, not thinking about how his actions would get back at him in the near future."

He gestured to Conner. "Another way of beating the opponents we don't wish to kill is by using a small pressure point in the base of the neck which is very difficult to find, unless you are very well trained like Murphy has become."

He looked down at Conner, an eyebrow raised. "And don't worry, he'll wake up in a minute."

Jack turned his head back to Carson. "Carson here has the keys to your apartments, of which you will be sharing for the time being. Seven people is the maximum for each room. Sleep for as long as you need to, but remember, tomorrow is the day when we welcome new people to the team." He gave a nod to the group. "Good night."

*

"Seriously?!" Eve yelled as she felt the downpour hit her. Of course, it just had to be rain. It's always rain.

It was just after noon, and Eve was heading to the town hall. She was going to speak to Jack about the new team recruits. In fact, the entire team was there too.

The main reason why she was so upset that it had started raining was that she was pretty far away from the hall now and she was alreay late. Now, the rain had made it even worse because she didn't have anything to cover herself with.

Suddenly, an excited-looking Murphy popped up beside her, umbrella in hand. "Murphy to the rescue, huh?"

She rolled her eyes, laughing slightly before sighing. "Yeah, I guess you could say that."

He chuckled, and Eve could now hear the rain heavily hitting the top of the umbrella.

"So when do you think it'll start snowing?" Murphy asked curiously, glancing at some of the dark clouds in the distance.

"It's late October, so any day within the next few month I guess." Eve's eyes widened. "Did you guys ever celebrate Halloween on the ark?"

Murphy thought about it for a moment, then shook his head. "No, I don't think so."

She giggled. "You're gonna love October 31st."

"Why? What's Halloween?"

Eve sighed softly as she looked at the town hall down the street. Eh, she was already late. What harm can it do to be a little later?

"It's an old pagan tradition. It was used to celebrate the dead and the monsters that people seemed to hate so much. At least, I think it was." She paused for a minute, then shook her head. "Anyway, we basically dress up like monsters and go around to houses and apartments, and get candy from random people."

"Isn't that dangerous? Like, couldn't someone get poisoned or something?"

She shrugged her shoulders. "Well, yes and no. It's dangerous if you don't trust the people that you're getting it from. But nearly everyone here is trustworthy." She paused. "And plus, it's only really the little kids and their parents that go out trick o' treating."

He stared at her, an eyebrow raised.

"That's what they call it when you dress up and go out for candy."

He nodded. "So what else do you do?"

"A lot of people just go out to parties, including me, Jack, Hannah and Jay. We paint ourselves with glowing paint then go out dancing and drinking." She paused, thinking about it for a second. "But that's just for everyone over sixteen."

He nodded. "Hmm... Maybe I'll join in on some of the parties." He said, smirking down at her.

"Maybe." They had reached the town hall now, and she had to hurry. "By the way, Halloween is tomorrow. I suggest you get ready to party." She giggled, then ran up the steps of the hall.

*

That meeting really had gone on for a long time. It was nearly ten o'clock at night when they got out of the meeting, and she couldn't find Murphy. So, she decided she would head back to her apartment.

She was just leaving the largest meeting room in the hall, and heading to one of the elevators to get from the second floor to the first, when she saw one of the 100. They grabbed her, pulling her into one of the empty rooms of the hall.

It was dark, and she had finally pulled her wrist out of their grip by digging her nails into their hand. They grunted in protest, before reaching behind her and turning the lights on.

"Do you really think he loves you?" The hoarse voice asked.

"What kind of question is that?" She hissed.

"He doesn't." The voice said, and now Eve could definitely identify it as a male.

"And how do you know that?"

"I know him better than you do."

"No, you don't."

"I know what he's really like." The voice hissed now.

"He's changed."

The person, who was nothing but a shadow, moved closer to her, and she backed up into the wall. "Do you honestly believe that?"

The figure put his hands on either side of her head, now just inches in front of her. "He hasn't changed one bit. He's just trying to lure you in."

"No, he's not!" She yelled.

"BELLAMY!" She heard a voice scream as loud as it could. She recognized it as Murphy's instantly, and also felt instant relief as well. "I KNOW YOU HAVE HER! AND WHEN I FIND YOU, YOU'RE DONE FOR!"

The person, whom she assumed was Bellamy, chuckled softly. "See? You're just his property. A piece of meat to him."

Eve shook her head in protest. "No, I'm not."

She reached up, using her fingers to dig into his shoulder with her nails and shove him backwards. Unfortunately, he was too strong. He brought his fist back, then slammed it into the wall beside her head, his hand breaking through the plaster and leaving a hole through it.

"He doesn't want you. He doesn't love you. He doesn't need you. It's all a lie! He has lied to you this whole time and you've been too blind to see it!" At that point, Eve had had enough. She felt tears stinging at her eyes, and she ignored it. She had to.

She couldn't let him get to her... But it was too late. He already had.

Of course, that didn't matter when the door slammed open and hit the wall, the lights turning on to expose an extremely angered Murphy standing in the doorway. Eve hadn't ever seen him like that.

His eyes were blazing, and he was breathing heavily. His fists were clenched so tightly that his knuckles were wite, and he looked like he was ready to kill him. Frankly, Eve couldn't want anything more.

"BELLAMY!" He growled out, lunging at Bellamy and sending his fist at his face. Bellamy's head cracked to the side, but he quickly recovered.

Murphy lunged at him again, and Bellamy grabbed Murphy by his shirt, slamming him into the wall opposite to Eve.

That didn't stop Murphy from slamming his fist into the side of Bellamy's neck, causing him to be momentarily disoriented and to cough, stumbling backwards.

Murphy went forwards, where Bellamy had doubled over in shock, still coughing and looking like he was going to throw up.

He slammed his right knee into Bellamy's stomach, and Bellamy hit the ground with a thud, completely unconscious.

Eve was out of the room in seconds, ignoring the many guards that were calling her name at that moment.
