THE WORLD (general overview, pre-Animus)

[PART 1 OF 2 (or 3)]

***

The world of this rp is the same world as ours, with one major difference: magic exists, and magic has made all the difference. Supernaturals co-exist with humans (and super-humans) to varying success (depending on area and other factors), and magic has been separate from technology for most of this alternate world's existence.

Until now.

But anyway. This world is the same as ours. All events, from any WW to any famous person to any revolution to any advancement, anyTHING--it's all here, too.

Things are precarious: one wrong move, and the world will fall apart.

Shame.

_______

THE EARTH

"AND THEY SAID GOD LEFT US."

Earth is a flooded, dirty, destroyed mess, a rotted shell of what it once was.

And that was before Animus came into play.

Earth has been ruined by foolishness, carelessness—politicians putting immediate profits and businesses before the land. Many major cities have flooded, become inhabitable; others have collapsed from a lack of natural resources. For what land is left, colonialism has returned--the two sides of the earth claimed what they could, snatching up whatever there was--the Caribbean, the USA; African countries and the Middle East, a mix of European countries, both East and West; smaller Asian island countries, by China.

And then came the war.

Radiation, death--people were ruined, killed, slaughtered; the seas ran red, then parts ran toxic, irradiated.

Collective fear and sadness brings people together.

Elite cities of the wealthy:

(the other main cities were either flooded or evacuated due to radiation; with most capital and popular cities being on the water...bad news.)

[The East]

-Chengdu, China

-Moscow, Russia

-Hyderabad, India

-Isfahan, Iran

-Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

-Abuja, Nigeria (taken over by Middle Eastern Commonwealth)

-Astana, Kazakhstan

[The West]

-Chicago, USA

-Paris, EU

-Munich, EU

-Vienna, EU

-Canberra, Australia

-Nairobi, Kenya (taken over by the EU)

-Bogotá, Colombia

-Brasília, Brazil

The consequence of the Animus Virus has changed the entire world. Instead of tearing it apart, it will only bring those left 'stranded' on Earth closer together--until everything collapses, and...only a few survivors are left, unsure who they can trust.

Earth will rot.

But now, it will not rot alone.

WESTERN-AFFILIATED COLONIES

***
[Taking inspiration mostly from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Europe.]

"Fidem." (Faith)

"WE REMAIN RIGID, BECAUSE ONLY WITH FAITH AND TRADITION WE ARE STRONG."

o People from Fidem are called:

< Fidemes. (Derogatory terms: Faithers.)  >

o Species Breakdown:

< mostly human. 90% human, with 10% anything and everything else, though the anti-supernatural sentiment is strong here. >

o Language:

< English, almost exclusively so. If anybody speaks any other language, people will complain about it. >

o The People (common personality traits)

< Fidemes are the wealthy elite of the universe, and they do act that way, generally. They are natural-born leaders, gifted with all the money in the world, and they will be sure to use it to get their way. Elitist, prideful, yet still very intelligent and stubborn, they are all type-A alphas, and...they will fight and clash and whatnot, but they will do whatever it takes to get to the top. Extremely skilled, because they were taught everything from a young age, yet unable to handle it when life doesn't go their way. >

o Culture (the arts, academics, sports, clothing, greetings, beliefs)

< extremely well-cultured. The arts are thriving, with a renaissance of 'post-modern' art--people embracing peace, finally sharing stories about the war. Artwork and culture is very retro-sci-fi, spotless, but the dirty truth is returning...albeit underground, with the younger generation.

sports? All-American football. Jetpack racing is also popular, as well as superheroes fighting in the LSV (League of Superheroes and Villains).

clothing is reminiscent of the 1950's--women in large, pleated skirts and dresses, men in collared shirts; whatever it is, it's inlaid with machinery, subtly--lines of glowing metal, whatever else. Preppy, clean, and very gender-oriented.

most people are still some sort of Christian, many are Jewish, and many are also atheists. Others are minorities, but not uncommon.

while everything may seem squeaky-clean on the surface, there is also a deep underbelly of the city--corruption, lawlessness. They are able to pay their way to buy 'workers' (slaves) from different colonies, take them into their homes. While some do it for charity, others do it for sex. There are underground rinks where people will bet on superheroes to fight, will take drugs without others knowing--but it's all underneath the visage.

"traditional" family values; anything else will mean you're forced to leave--man and woman, at least two kids, husband works while wife takes care of the chores and kids, suits and dresses, smiles all around. No vulgarity, no fighting--everything as it 'should be', with any issues buried behind their pink lips. >

o Ceremonies:

< (people don't do any large celebrations or ceremonies--every person here has a reputation to uphold, and therefore, they do not take a chance to...be free, wild, whatever.)

4th of July--biggest celebration. Giant floats in the streets, sales everywhere, good ol' American picnics. Exactly what you're thinking.

Cyber Monday--consumerism at its finest. People will buy whatever they need online--for one hour, things are sold cheaply. It's a savage race, people hooked into their Comms and computers to find the cheapest rates--but once it's over, people celebrate. Dinner parties galore.

Work Party Friday--for every husband to show off his wife. A bi-weekly event for every working man in Fidem, one large dinner party for everyone, each company housing it somewhere. >

o Geography/Climate (landscape/agriculture):

< the dwarf planet is mostly covered in pockets of expansive cities with roadways--both for traditional cars and flying ones. Cities are colorful, with wooden floors and lots of curves. Around each city are parks, farms--though the farms are for show; most of what they need is imported from other places and such. Cities are tall, varied, with different levels, districts, whatever--everything is spotless, though, with androids helping keep the city clean. Technology has been used well for upkeep's sake--almost every person has an android helper. Shops are extremely pricey. It is so small that it is basically one city--it's split into Greater Fidem (the city) and Lesser Fidem (the suburbs) >

o Flora/Fauna:

< not important. Parks have what Earth had, basically; there are magnificent gardens and strange, alien animals in zoos. People have whatever pets you can think of, too, kept in bags on their arms, and kept calm with certain types of collars. Apparently there is even a zoo housing 'rogue' supernaturals... >

o Laws/Government:

< most of the government representing the 'West' currently lives here, and has lived on here--all being older, only caring about keeping Fidem exclusive, and keeping themselves at the top. Many young people are trying to change things, but with a "democratic" government that doesn't truly represent the colony's interests, it's impossible. >

o History:

< it was the first 'colony'--a chance for people to leave Earth and find a new, better home. Americans had humble beginnings here, but things soon changed--war began, and soldiers went off; wealthy Americans fled to Fidem to live safely, and prices kept rising, the cities kept expanding--now, it's an exclusive place, kept away from foreigners. Anyone that isn't a "true Fideme" should be kicked out. But it represents the "old" West, and will hopefully be changing soon. Hackers are using androids to get information from the government workers, to hopefully try and reveal some of the corruption occurring--and to oust them. While it began as the first, it remains one of the smallest colonies, only with the richest and the smartest under its clear-walled sky. >

["Main Theme (mix)" | Moonlight Soundtrack | by Nicholas Britell]

"Pieta." (Piety)

"WE PROTECT OURSELVES AND OUR WORLD FOR A HEALTHY TOMORROW."

o People from Pieta are called:

< Pietans. (Derogatory terms: Sundowners (severe), Beasts (less severe), Tree-huggers (less severe, more joking) ) >

o Species Breakdown:

< one of the most supernatural-filled planets: 45% were-creature (werewolves being most common, then werebears, then others), 25% humans, 5% elves, 5% skinwalkers, 5% witches, 5% elementals, 5% wendigoes, 5% other (it's unclear to have an exact estimate with people so spread apart--vampires are a growing population, apparently) >

o Language:

< people speak a variety of languages--most are bilingual. About 90% speak English, (for a second language) 50% speak one type of native language,  35% French, 25% some type of Slavic language >

o The People (common personality traits)

< people from here are generally very soft-spoken, caring, and even bordering on reclusive--but with that being said, they do have a very strong sense of community. People are in small villages dotted around the planet (generally); they may go their own path, but they always return home. They listen to others and are very kind and gentle, extremely understanding. Honesty isn't always a complete truth, because people would rather tell a white lie here than to hurt someone with a full truth. When Pietas snap, they snap--they will lash out and attack like no tomorrow. They are also generally somewhat territorial.

There is a population that is feral, succumbing to the wild within them--these rogues are dangerous. >

o Culture (the arts, academics, sports, clothing, greetings, beliefs)

< Pietans aren't the most technologically advanced--they live from nature, for nature, and simplicity is key for them. They build massive gardens and use nature as their canvas for art--dead trees cut and carved, fungi smeared to create massive paintings--they build off what is already there. Bones are even used for art without it being taboo at all.

sports are done in animal-form--mostly hunting (but letting prey go), shows of strength, speed, and endurance. Archery, sword-fighting, and traditional combat is also very popular here. Academics aren't too important--people generally aren't taught in 'schools' (instead, small classes led by teachers in each pack and community).

clothing is simple as well--leather, cotton; nothing that will ruin the environment. People take from dead animals only; nothing is wasted. Food is also all-organic; each tribe has gardens, and they hunt  for survival, not sport.

they are very spiritual people--each tribe has their own distinctions when it comes to beliefs and culture, but most are pacifists (for the most part), though they do clash with other tribes (or packs) sometimes. There is conflict between were-bears and werewolves, as well as rogues and other tribes or packs. Regardless, they all believe that nature has its own magic, and that people have to be kind to it.

their history is all spoken--stories shared by elders around the campfire and such. The issue is that it is impossible to keep track of, but storytime is a very big deal.

hierarchy matters, too--the older you get, the wiser you are; eldest go first in the feeding, then middle, then youngest. Alphas lead every tribe alongside the elders, and omegas are at the bottom.

(tribes/packs are used interchangeably, though the latter is more associated with werewolves and other were-creatures.) >

o Ceremonies:

< depends on the tribe, most most do nightly prayer, and with each killing, they give thanks to the planet for supplying them food. Otherwise, there is an annual meeting (once every 12 moons) for all tribes to come together, share knowledge and art and such--this is called the Moon Gathering. >

o Geography/Climate (landscape/agriculture):

< temperate forests all around. Mountains, snow at the caps, lots of lakes and smaller oceans. It's a small planet, with four seasons and a mild climate--when it's cold, it's cold, but it's never extreme and never too hot, either. There are mostly thick forests across the planet, with fog almost every morning. There are also ancient ruins of a species that has long since died; Pietans keep nature as it is. They do not want to destroy this world like Earth was destroyed. >

o Flora/Fauna:

< lots of giant trees--some big enough that small communities can live inside them (think Avatar). Animals are basically what is found on Earth, oddly enough. >

o Laws/Government:

< barely any. There are elders that lead each tribe, and one representative that leads the planet in galactic affairs, but there isn't much else. >

o History:

< what began as a place for the West to drop off dangers (were-creatures) became a peaceful planet, essentially. People found their way into tribes and packs, and here it is. Technology was pushed away, and they remain true to themselves.>

["Party" | Requiem for a Dream Soundtrack | by Clint Mansell]

"Libita." (Pleasure/Joy)

"WE PARTY EACH NIGHT, FOR THE DEAD, FOR JOY, FOR US."

o People from Libitia are called:

< Libitians. (Derogatory terms: Pobrecitos, Neones) >

o Species Breakdown:

< Native Libitians: Humans--50%, Jengu (Afro-Caribbean mermaid/sirens)--10% Eintykára--3% (projected to be 10% with the black market), 5% each--werewolves, were-hyenas, skinwalkers, 2% cherruve, 10% others >

o Language:

< Spanish (most common by far, 65%), English (most still speak this at a basic level as well too--70% (but as a second language)), Common Creole (25% speak this); less-spoken but somewhat common is French, Dutch, and Hindustani. >

o The People (common personality traits)

< people are prideful, loud, and full of energy. Being outgoing and excited is rewarded; people speak their minds, but are also extremely vindictive and spiteful. Jealousy, especially surrounding love, is frequent--and so is cheating. People work to win here--they are very competitive, and will do anything for an extra buck. With them being so loud (generally), you would expect honesty with other issues--but they remain silent when it comes to others, like mental illness, marital issues, etc. (basically, the opposite of Pietans). >

o Culture (the arts, academics, sports, clothing, beliefs)

< work hard, party hard. People there are hard workers, trying to make a living, most coming from poverty before. Libitia is not a wealthy place, but it survives and does well in spite of that. Many are secretly rich, and politicians are (not-so-secretly) rich. If you're a tourist, you will be loved.

drug usage is commonplace, and sex is common, unsafe--there is a nihilist, 'the-world-may-end-tomorrow-so-let's-drink-and-fuck' mindset. Addiction is common, to drugs, drinking, sex, whatever--vices are taboo to speak of. Drinking away worries is common. It is taboo to speak on money. There is a clear dichotomy between the easygoing nature of most and the serious going-ons that occur in the shadows.

every night, parties are hosted in honor of the dead. Death has a lot of meaning in the culture, which is heavily pulled from Latin America (primarily Mexico) and the Caribbean. The art scene is thriving, with artists using 'glowing' pigments from the land around them. Music is generally a mix of bouncy Latin songs, often blended with reggae--things that will get people moving.

soccer is extremely popular, as well as water polo, squash, and competitive swimming. However, alebrije riding (people riding the native animals--winged horses, giant snakes, etc) is the most popular sport there by far--extremely competitive...and extremely dangerous.

clothing is gaudy, but fun--people show off their bodies with ornately patterned clothes and whatnot. Tourists will return home with jewel-encrusted bras, feathered headpieces, etc.

also, people do set up graves in advance--they do often clean their graves and plots for tombstones, even when they're alive. Prayer is frequent, with the most common religion being a mix of traditional Catholic, Santería, native Central American beliefs, and Voodoo. >

o Ceremonies:

< there is always something going on; a 'small' festival, whatever--people love their parties.

-Carnival: similar to the old parades in Trinidad and Tobago, there is one carnival a month. People dress in feathers, glittering outfits, and strut the streets--many ride alebrijes. Music festivals occur all day, rides are set up in the corners--the beachy paradise does get loud and proud at this time.

-Día de los Muertos: carried over by Mexico, having a renaissance with the wars and obsessiveness over death and pain, Libitans have taken it to a new level--every Sunday night, people will set up shrines to commemorate the dead, give out food, and visit graves. Tourists come to visit the dead, and many supernaturals will conjure up images of the dead to make Tourists pay them. Still, most take it very seriously.

-Black Friday: the biggest selling day in the Black Markets. Deals galore...and danger galore. >

o Geography/Climate (landscape/agriculture):

< Libitia is a strange, but extremely beautiful planet. Very small, yet with a very diverse population, it isn't a diverse climate: warm, 70s-90s (Fahrenheit), with numerous beaches, mountains, and forests. Altitudes remain relatively low, and rainforests exist in a band on the center of the planet. It seems like a tropical paradise, except for sundown--which is when the real beauty starts. The planet is naturally bioluminescent; trees glow bright, wild colors only known by neon pigments before on Earth. The beaches have glowing pink, blue, and yellow sand; when people move the water, it also 'glows' (due to dinoflagellates).
The animal species are

it has villages scattered throughout--mostly small ones with a few specialty hotels and restaurants. The capital is 'Casita'

other notable places are: Pink Moon Beach, the  biggest tourist beach there, with pink sand that glows at night and water that will shimmer blue when moved. Also, there is the Black Markets in the underbelly of Casita--where drugs and people are sold. You'd want to stay away from the areas surrounding the capital. >

o Flora/Fauna:

< varied, tropical-like plants that are covered in natural, wild patterns and designs. Animals are often strange blends of ones seen on Earth, like jaguars with wings, crocodiles with ten legs--they look like alebrijes. Their patterns are often used in clothes around the galaxy; there is a large poaching market, too. Most people have colorful, strange animals from here. Though dangers exist, most of the animals are harmless. >

o Laws/Government/Economy:

< tourism--that is their solution. They have sold the government on their party culture, the neon and the glowing trees and neon-pink sand on the beach, the natural glow once the sun sinks. The limited government is corrupted, series of representatives and governors (it's a democracy)--but they take money and leave little for all else. However, the carefree nature of Libitians means that they get away with it. There is a great discrepancy between wealthy people (often from Fidem) and the common people at Libitia. Libitians know that these tourists are more than willing to pay them, hence them being easy to please. They'll do anything for a dollar. Entertainment is very easy to come by.

one thing not mentioned by the government is the drug trade, trafficking and black market that occurs underground--this is a hub for anything illegal, most often passed in parties...but nobody seems to mind much. The neon allure is too much to hide. >

o History:

< wealthy Fidemas needed a place to go: insert a sunny spot where space-cruises can land. Cheap labor lifted from environmental refugees (primarily from Central America and the Caribbean), and Libita was created. Trouble found its way there soon after. >

"Fiducia." (Trust)

"WE WORK, AND WE WORK, AND WE HOPE FOR A BETTER DAY: FOR FREEDOM."

(This is just one of the many different 'worker' colonies--Fiducia is the most populated one. The

o People from Fiducia are called:

< Fiducians. (Derogatory terms: Slaves, Miners, Scapes (scapegoats), idk) >

o Species Breakdown:

< nearly exclusively supernatural--and of that, the dark kind. Drakes, witches, seers, etc.; mainly people from S. America and Southwestern Asia, due to them being environmental refugees. >

o Language:

< Hindi, Spanish, English, Arabic, primarily. Most speak English (or Mandarin) as their first or second language. >

o The People (common personality traits)

< people here come from a history of trauma, sadness--their homes being wiped away before anyone else. They are close-knit, secretive from the outside world, sharing knowledge and secrets to those who listen within their ranks. Strong-willed, physically strong, yet generally unintelligent due to a lack of education and weak from too much labor, they're people who are servile and loyal, with the fire of rebellion within them snuffed so many years ago. Most don't live over 35. >

o Culture (the arts, academics, sports, clothing, greetings, beliefs)

< what culture? Joking. Once the work is over and Fiducians return home to the dirty underground tunnels, they do what they can to make life more enjoyable. Whether it's to sneak glimpses of the outside world, to act in plays and dances, to paint in oil across the walls, to play sports and to make machines with scraps found above, they'll do what they can, and Fiducians do have a culture built on survival and trust.

Their clothing is generally simple black uniforms--drab clothes supplied to them by the GO. They don't have much access to anything all that...nice--jewelry, perfumes, makeup; they are fed meal replacement drinks, rice, lentils--things that have substance, but no flavor.

In spite of the close-knit community pockets of Fiducians hold, there are extremely high levels of suicide. Death before reaching 20 is unfortunately common; Fiducians have nobody to turn to, no way to speak out on issues like abuse, rape, experimenting, whatnot--they are frequent.

They believe in spirits, in machines--they are a hopeful, faithful people, though many are jaded and bitter. They greet with hands against foreheads, bows--everyone is equal in their eyes, probably because they're all aware they're at the bottom. >

o Ceremonies:

< though illegal, they have one festival that is called 'Festival of the Harvest'--when the swamps above are full of reptilian creatures and different plants. Some sneak away and return with food--and they dance all night, use whatever drinks they've stolen, and celebrate. >

o Geography/Climate (landscape/agriculture/):

< disgusting. The land is mostly lifeless, with pockets of sulfuric-smelling swamps; otherwise, the black soil has nothing to offer. The East built mazes of old, rough-looking machines above, stacked above and standing high, high above the ground. The higher you go, the more important you are--but the 'workers' (slaves) are at the bottom, in mines.

o Flora/Fauna:

< none for most of the planet, save for the swamps--then there are some fruits and vegetables that are all covered in shells, but inside are mushy and cloyingly sweet or bitter, no between--and reptile-like creatures similar to gators and turtles. >

o Laws/Government:

< not allowed to be represented in any government or any matters outside of their planet. They have no power even within the planet, unable to make changes. Riots have begun, and ended terribly. >

o History:

< this was what most people caused the SCW. It has throes of highly valuable materials: gold, silver, gemstones...and radioactive materials. Careless workers with no oversight means that people get poisoned and die--which is what happens, and if not by the radioactivity, then by the smoke-filled air.

the people working on this colony, as well as every other 'mining' colony, are aware that their jobs could easily be taken over by machines. They're being put there to die.

they're waiting for a chance for revolution--and freedom. >
